Device Overview

The OVR Velocity device features several key components:

  • 1. Slide Switch: Used to turn the unit on and off.
  • 2. USB-C Port: For charging the device and updating firmware.
  • 3. Status LED: Indicates connection status. Green means connected; Red means not connected.
  • 4. Charging LED: Indicates charging status. Green means fully charged; Red means charging.
  • 5. OLED Display: Shows real-time data.
  • 6. Buttons: Used to scroll through options and change settings.

The OLED display shows metrics such as load (e.g., 225lb), range of motion (e.g., 25.6"), time (e.g., 0:36), rep count (e.g., 4/6), average velocity (e.g., 0.75 m/s), maximum velocity (e.g., 1.37 m/s), and power (e.g., 751 W).

Using OVR Velocity

Setup

To set up the OVR Velocity:

Attach the device to a small weight plate or squat rack using the magnets on its bottom. Secure the end of the string to the barbell using the provided strap.

Note: For optimal results, ensure the device is positioned directly under the barbell's range of motion.

Button Functions

  • Left Button: Moves to the previous rep.
  • Right Button: Moves to the next rep.
  • Short Press Both Buttons: Resets data.
  • Long Press Both Buttons: Accesses device settings.
  • (Settings) Left Button: Moves the selector.
  • (Settings) Right Button: Selects an option.

Settings

To access device settings, press and hold both buttons for at least half a second. Use the left button to scroll and the right button to select. Settings are saved upon turning the device off and on.

Screen LayoutCustomize the data displayed on the main screen. Options include average and peak velocity, average and peak power, time to peak velocity, and elastic acceleration index.
Change WeightAdjust the weight setting on the device. This can also be managed via the OVR Connect app. Note: The weight setting does not affect velocity measurements.
Eccentric ModeEnables measurement of the eccentric phase of a movement (from concentric to eccentric). This can also be configured in the OVR Connect app.
Minimum ROMSets the minimum range of motion required to record a repetition. Reps below this threshold will not be recorded.
TimerEnables or disables the rest timer displayed on the screen. The timer resets with each new rep or set.
UnitsSwitch between pounds/inches and kilograms/centimeters. This can also be done via the OVR Connect app.

Screens Overview

The device features different display screens:

  • Loading Screen: The initial screen displayed when the device powers on. The battery level is shown in the bottom right corner.
  • Main Screen: Ready to measure repetitions, displaying real-time data.
  • Settings Screen: Allows configuration of the device. Details for each option are in the "Settings" section. The device ID is visible in the top right corner of this screen when connected to OVR Connect.

How to Customize Display

To customize the display:

  1. Navigate to the settings menu (hold both buttons for one second).
  2. Select "Screen Layout".
  3. Choose the metrics you wish to display on the main screen.
  4. Select "Save". The main screen will now reflect your custom setup.

Note: Use the left button to cycle through options and the right button to select.

Example Setups:

  • Example 1: Middle display shows Average Velocity, Bottom Left shows Peak Velocity, Bottom Right shows Average Power.
  • Example 2: Middle display shows Peak Velocity, Bottom Left shows Time to Peak Velocity, Bottom Right shows Elastic Acceleration Index.

Main Screen Details

The main screen displays various metrics, which can be customized:

  • 1. Load (lb or kg): The weight being lifted.
  • 2. Range of Motion (in): The measured range of motion for the rep.
  • 3. Rest Time: The duration of rest between sets or reps.
  • 4. Current Rep: The current repetition being performed or recorded.
  • 5. Total Reps: The cumulative number of repetitions completed.
  • 6. Avg or Peak Velocity: Displays either the average or peak velocity achieved during the rep.
  • 7. Customizable Metric: A user-selected metric.
  • 8. Customizable Metric: Another user-selected metric.

OVR Connect Setup

Connect your OVR Velocity device to the OVR Connect app for enhanced features. Once connected, the Status LED will turn green.

Steps:

  1. Turn on your OVR Velocity device.
  2. Open the OVR Connect app on your mobile device and tap the link icon (usually in the top right).
  3. Wait for the OVR Velocity to appear in the app's device list.
  4. Tap on your device to establish the connection.

  • View live data for instant feedback during workouts.
  • See data and monitor progress over time by reviewing historical data.
  • Share workout data to social media platforms.

Troubleshooting

Device is not charging

  • Check if the charging LED is lit.
  • Try a different charging block or port.
  • Use the provided charging cable. Avoid using USB-C chargers intended for laptops.

Device is reading reps backward (eccentric)

  • Go to settings and turn off "Eccentric Mode".

Device is not connecting to OVR Connect

  • Ensure your mobile phone's Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Verify that OVR Connect has Bluetooth access in your device settings.
  • Try turning the OVR Velocity device off and on again to reset.
  • Confirm that the connection status LED is turning green.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need the app to use the device?
No, OVR Velocity is a standalone unit providing rep data directly from its onboard display. The app enhances functionality but is not required for basic operation.
How accurate is OVR Velocity?
OVR Velocity was validated for accuracy in an independent study against the "gold standard" in Velocity-Based Training (VBT).
Is there a rep limit?
After 100 reps are performed, the device resets the onboard data and continues recording from zero.
What is the minimum range of motion to record a rep?
The minimum range of motion required to record a rep is 7 inches.

Proper Use

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your OVR Velocity device, adhere to these guidelines. Failure to do so may void the warranty and place liability on the customer.

  • Temperature and Sunlight Exposure: Avoid exposing the device to high temperatures or prolonged direct sunlight, as this can damage components and affect functionality.
  • Handling the String: Do not forcefully extend the string to its maximum length, as overstretching can cause damage.
  • Battery Management: To prolong battery life, avoid fully draining the battery. Charge the device regularly to maintain a healthy battery level.
  • Clip and Device Interaction: Be cautious to prevent the clip from striking the device. Sudden impacts can damage both the clip and the device.
  • Placement of the Unit: Position the device where it is not at risk of being hit by weights or other gym equipment to prevent significant damage.
  • Securing the Unit: Use the attached magnets to securely place the unit. Firm and safe attachment ensures stability and accuracy during use.

Warranty Policy

Limited One-Year Warranty for OVR Velocity

OVR Performance LLC offers a Limited One-Year Warranty for the OVR Velocity device. This warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship under proper use for one year from the original purchase date.

What is Covered:

  • Repair or replacement of parts found to be defective due to material or workmanship.

What is Not Covered:

  • Damage caused by misuse, accidents, or unauthorized repairs/modifications.
  • Normal wear and tear or cosmetic damage.
  • Use with non-OVR Performance products or in unintended ways.

How to Obtain Service:

For warranty service, the product must be returned to a specified location by OVR Performance, preferably in its original packaging or equivalent protection. Proof of purchase is required.

Limitation of Damages:

OVR Performance is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from any breach of warranty or improper use.
