Safety Warnings and Precautions
⚠️ WARNING: To prevent electrical shock or fire, this product must be installed correctly. Water ingress must be avoided before and during the installation. De-energize circuits before installation or servicing.
Persons involved in the installation and testing of electric heat tracing systems shall be suitably trained in all special techniques required. Installation shall be carried out under the supervision of a qualified person.
Ground fault equipment protection must be used on each heating cable circuit as arcing may not be stopped by conventional circuit breakers. Before installing this product, read the instructions completely.
Keep ends of heating cables and kit components dry before and during installation.
The electrically conductive covering (braid) of the heating cable shall be connected to a suitable earthing terminal.
The presence of the heating cables shall be made evident by the posting of caution signs or markings at appropriate locations and/or at frequent intervals along the circuit.
The insulation resistance of the heating cable shall be measured and recorded after installation and shall not be less than 20 MOhm.
⚠️ WARNING: The purchaser should make the manufacturer aware of any external effects or aggressive substances that the equipment may be exposed to.
❗ CAUTION: Prolonged or repeated contact with the sealant in the core sealer may cause skin irritation. Wash hands thoroughly. Overheating or burning the sealant will produce fumes that may cause polymer fume fever. Avoid contamination of cigarettes or tobacco. Consult MSDS VEN 0058 for further information.

Installation Instructions
Follow these steps carefully for proper installation of the nVent RAYCHEM S-150 Low Profile Splice Kit.
-
Prepare the Heating Cable End:
Measure 300 mm (12") from the end of the heating cable. Make a 45° cut through the outer jacket.
Diagram shows cutting the outer jacket at a 45-degree angle. -
Remove Outer Jacket and Unbraid:
Carefully remove the outer jacket. Unbraid the conductive shield and fold it back over the outer jacket.
Diagram shows removing the outer jacket and folding back the braid. -
Prepare the Inner Insulation:
Make a 90° cut on the inner insulation.
Diagram shows cutting the inner insulation at a 90-degree angle. -
Strip Inner Insulation:
Strip 70 mm (2 3/4") of the outer jacket. Strip 22 mm (7/8") of the inner insulation.
Diagram shows stripping outer and inner insulation. -
Prepare Inner Conductors:
For BTV & QTVR cables, cut the inner conductors to specific lengths as shown. For KTV & XTV cables, cut the inner conductors to specific lengths as shown.
Diagram shows cutting the inner conductors for different cable types. -
Twist Conductors and Prepare for Connection:
Twist the inner conductors together. Measure 15 mm (5/8") from the end of the conductors.
Diagram shows twisting conductors and marking a length. -
Connect to Splice Kit:
Insert the prepared conductors into the splice kit connector. Ensure the conductive braid is positioned correctly.
Diagram shows inserting conductors into the connector. -
Trim Conductors and Prepare Second Cable End:
Trim the conductors to 6 mm (1/4"). Prepare the second heating cable end in the same manner for connection to the other side of the splice kit.
Diagram shows trimming conductors and preparing the second cable end. -
Connect to Main Splice Body:
Connect the prepared cable end to the main splice body using a 3mm screwdriver. Torque to 0.8 Nm (7 in-lb).
Diagram shows connecting the cable to the splice body with a screwdriver and torque specification. -
Assemble Splice Kit:
Insert the connected splice kit into the main splice body. Close the splice kit body. Secure the outer jacket with clamps and screws. Torque the main body screws to 2.25 Nm (20 in-lbs) and the cable entry screws to 0.6 Nm (5 in-lbs).
Diagrams show closing the splice body, securing clamps, and applying torque specifications. -
Final Installation:
The completed splice kit is now installed on the pipe.
