General Safety Instructions for Power Tools

▲ WARNING! Read all safety instructions, instructions, illustrations, and technical data provided with this power tool. Failure to follow the instructions below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious injury.

Keep all safety instructions and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" used in the safety instructions refers to mains-operated power tools (with power cord) or battery-operated power tools (without power cord).

1. Workplace Safety

  • a) Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or poorly lit work areas can lead to accidents.
  • b) Do not operate the power tool in an explosive atmosphere, i.e., in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite dust or fumes.
  • c) Keep children and other persons away while operating the power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control of the tool.

2. Electrical Safety

  • a) The power tool's plug must match the socket. Never modify the plug. Do not use adapter plugs with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching sockets reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges, or refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
  • c) Keep the power tool away from rain or moisture. Water entering a power tool increases the risk of electric shock.
  • d) Do not misuse the power cord for carrying the tool, hanging it up, or for pulling the plug out of the socket. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or tangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use only extension cords that are also suitable for outdoor use. Using an extension cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • f) If operating a power tool in a damp environment is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD). The use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3. Personal Safety

  • a) Stay alert, pay attention to what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use the tool if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating the power tool can result in serious injury.
  • b) Wear personal protective equipment and always wear safety glasses. Wearing personal protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-slip safety shoes, helmet, or hearing protection, depending on the type and application of the power tool, reduces the risk of injury.
  • c) Avoid unintentional starting. Ensure the power tool is switched off before connecting it to the power supply and/or battery, before picking it up, or carrying it. Carrying the power tool with your finger on the switch or connecting the power tool to the power supply while it is switched on can lead to accidents.
  • d) Remove any adjusting tools or wrenches before switching on the power tool. A tool or wrench left in a rotating part of the power tool may cause personal injury.
  • e) Avoid awkward body posture. Ensure you have a stable footing and maintain balance at all times. This allows for better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • f) Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothing, jewelry, or long hair can be caught by moving parts.
  • g) If dust extraction and collection devices can be fitted, ensure they are connected and used correctly. Using dust extraction can reduce hazards caused by dust.
  • h) Do not be complacent and disregard safety rules for power tools, even if you are familiar with the tool after frequent use. Careless actions can lead to serious injury in a fraction of a second.

4. Use and Handling of the Power Tool

  • a) Do not overload the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
  • b) Do not use a power tool if the switch does not turn it on or off. A power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • c) Pull the plug out of the socket and/or remove the battery before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. These preventive measures reduce the risk of the power tool starting unintentionally.
  • d) Store unused power tools out of the reach of children. Do not allow persons who are not familiar with the tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
  • e) Maintain the power tool and accessories with care. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, or any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  • f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Sharpened cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
  • g) Use the power tool, accessories, insert tools, etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Using power tools for operations different from those intended could result in hazardous situations.
  • h) Keep handles and gripping surfaces dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and gripping surfaces do not allow for safe operation and control of the power tool in unexpected situations.

5. Use and Handling of Battery Tools

  • a) Charge batteries only with chargers recommended by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery may create a fire hazard when used with another battery.
  • b) Use only the intended batteries in the power tools. Using other batteries may cause injury and fire hazard.
  • c) Keep batteries away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that could cause a short circuit. A short circuit between battery contacts can cause burns or fire.
  • d) In case of misuse, liquid may be ejected from the battery. Avoid contact with it. If contact accidentally occurs, rinse with water. If the liquid gets into your eyes, seek medical attention. Ejected battery liquid may cause irritation or burns.
  • e) Do not use a damaged or modified battery. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion, or risk of injury.
  • f) Do not expose batteries to fire or excessive temperatures. Fire or temperatures above 130 °C can cause an explosion.
  • g) Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery or battery tool outside the temperature range specified in the operating instructions. Improper charging or charging outside the allowed temperature range can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Safety Instructions for Drilling Machines

Safety Instructions for All Work

  • Hold the power tool by the insulated grip surfaces when performing work where the insert tool or screw may contact hidden electrical wiring. Contact with a live wire can also energize metal parts of the tool and cause an electric shock.

Safety Instructions When Using Long Drill Bits

  • Never operate at a higher speed than the maximum speed permitted for the drill bit. At higher speeds, the drill bit can bend easily if it spins freely without contact with the workpiece, leading to injuries.
  • Always start the drilling process at a low speed and while the drill bit is in contact with the workpiece. At higher speeds, the drill bit can bend easily if it spins freely without contact with the workpiece, leading to injuries.
  • Do not apply excessive pressure and only apply pressure in the direction of the drill bit. Drill bits can bend and consequently break or lead to loss of control and injuries.

Additional Safety Instructions

  • Secure the workpiece. A workpiece held with clamping devices or a vice is held more securely than with your hand.
  • Switch off the power tool immediately if the insert tool jams. Be prepared for high reaction torques that cause a kickback. The insert tool jams when the power tool is overloaded.
  • Wait until the power tool has come to a standstill before setting it down. The insert tool can snag and lead to loss of control of the power tool.
  • Hold the power tool firmly. When tightening and loosening screws, high reaction torques can occur briefly.
  • Use suitable search devices to locate hidden supply lines or consult the local utility company. Contact with electrical lines can cause fire and electric shock. Damage to a gas line can cause an explosion. Penetrating a water pipe causes property damage.
  • Use only accessories recommended by PARKSIDE. Unsuitable accessories can cause electric shock or fire.

Residual Risks

Even when this device is operated correctly, residual risks remain. The following hazards may arise in connection with the design and execution of this device:

  • Hearing damage if no suitable hearing protection is worn.
  • Health damage resulting from hand-arm vibrations if the device is used for extended periods or not guided and maintained properly.
  • Cut injuries.

▲ WARNING! Danger from electromagnetic fields generated during operation. Under certain conditions, the field may interfere with active or passive medical implants. To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury, persons with medical implants should consult their doctor and the implant manufacturer before operating the device.
