The Shaker Pad is also shown.
EG-1 Part Names
Diagram Description: A detailed line drawing of the EG-1 Coffee Grinder labels its various parts. Key components include: Motor Cap, Motor Casing, Motor Mount, Reach Around Arms, Neck, Driver Box, Base, Rail Cover, RPM Display, RPM Knob, On/Off Button, Bean Dish, Locking Ring, Upper Funnel, Bottom Bearing Mount, Lower Funnel, Blind Shaker, and Shaker Wood Platen.
Quickstart | Basic Usage
1. Grinder Placement
Find a flat, dry counter space with access to a power outlet. The EG-1 is designed for use in 90v-240v regions without a separate transformer. It uses a C13 style power cable (similar to computer cables), which can be purchased locally if needed. A US-style 3-prong cable is included.
2. Remove from Box
Using both hands, carefully lift the EG-1 straight out of its packaging. Exercise caution as the unit is heavy.
3. Attach the Bean Dish
Attach the Bean Dish as shown. Stainless dowel pins align the part, and a magnet secures it.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the EG-1 grinder with an arrow pointing to the attachment point for the Bean Dish.
4. Mount the Shaker Wood Platen Rail
With the PF Cover removed, mount the Shaker Wood Platen. It is recommended to start with just the wood platen to accommodate the Blind Shaker. For detailed usage of the rails and Blind Shaker, refer to videos on the Weber Workshops YouTube Channel.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the EG-1 grinder with the PF Cover removed, indicating where to "PULL OFF RAIL COVER" and attach the Shaker Wood Platen.
5. Plug in Unit
Use the included power cord. An adapter or a different C13 cable may be needed depending on your country, but a transformer is generally not required due to the 90v-240v AC supply compatibility.
6. Power on Mains
Locate the main power switch on the back of the unit, near where the power cord connects. The display should show "0".
7. Adjust the RPM Level
Turn the black knob counterclockwise to set the RPM to the 500-700 RPM range, which is a good starting point. The RPMs will display briefly for pre-setting without the grinder running.
Diagram Description: A close-up view of the EG-1's base shows the RPM Display, RPM Dial, and On/Off Button.
9. Adjust the Grind
Perform a test grind with a small amount of coffee to verify the initial setting. The grinder is typically shipped set close to an espresso grind, but adjustments will be needed for your specific brewing style and coffee beans. To adjust grind size, lift the locking ring and turn it. Larger numbers indicate coarser grinds (larger particles), with each tick representing a 5-micron adjustment. There is no absolute zero setting. Small amounts of coffee residue may remain from factory testing (~200g tested per unit); while cleaned, some remnants might persist.
Diagram Description: An illustration highlights the locking ring mechanism, with an arrow pointing to the "LOCKING RING" for adjustment.
10. Grinding Coffee
Once the grind size is set, you can add your coffee dose to the Bean Dish. You can use a "Hot Start" (grinder on before adding beans) or a "Cold Start" (beans added before turning on the grinder). A Hot Start is generally recommended for the EG-1. After grinding a dose (approx. 10 seconds for 20g), any residual ground coffee in the spout can be purged using the "clicker" located behind the bean funnels.
11. Cleaning the Grinder
The EG-1 is designed for quick and easy daily cleaning, requiring no tools. First, ensure the grinder is powered off at the mains and the On/Off button is not depressed. Remove the Upper and Lower funnels to access the grind chamber. Pull down to disengage the funnel covers from their pins and magnets, then pull them up/down to detach them from the main body. Use a small brush to clean coffee residue from the grind chamber surfaces. A wipe with a damp towel is acceptable. Never place EG-1 parts in a dishwasher, as this will damage them. Cleaning videos are available on the Weber Workshops YouTube channel (youtube.com/weberworkshops).
Diagram Description: Illustrations show how to remove the Upper and Lower Funnels by pulling them down and then out. A separate indicator points to the "CLICKER" mechanism.
12. Sleep & Power Off
The grinder automatically enters sleep mode after 60 seconds of inactivity, indicated by a dimming LED display. Pressing the On/Off button instantly wakes the unit. For cafes or periods of prolonged non-use at home, it is recommended to power down the unit at the mains overnight.
