Troubleshooting
1. Unpleasant taste
Cause: Limescale
Solution:
- Dissolve 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda in a full kettle of water and leave overnight (do not boil). Rinse thoroughly. Fill the kettle, boil, and discard the water.
- Alternatively, add 100ml of white vinegar to an empty, cold kettle, put the lid on, and slosh. Leave for 20-30 minutes (do not boil). Rinse thoroughly. Fill the kettle, boil, and discard the water.
- A drop of lemon juice can also help with odors.
2. The kettle is leaking
Cause:
- Misalignment of switch due to early switching off.
- Overfilling the kettle.
- Damage to the seal from heavy handling.
- Lid not attached properly.
- Cracks or damage to the device.
Solution:
- Avoid switching the kettle off before it reaches boiling point to prevent damage to the heating element and potential leaks. For misalignment issues, contact support at 0333 220 6050.
- Ensure the kettle is filled between the minimum and maximum lines.
- If the seal appears damaged or the device shows signs of heavy handling, contact support at 0333 220 6050.
- Ensure the lid is attached properly before boiling. Check the device for any cracks or damage and contact support if found.
3. Tripping the electrics
Cause:
- Damage to the heating element from switching the kettle off before boiling.
- Limescale build-up.
- Plug not supporting kettle power.
- Submerging the base and plug with water.
Solution:
- Wait until the kettle has boiled before turning it off. Avoid early switch-offs.
- Limescale can cause the kettle to use more energy, potentially tripping your electrics. Cleaning limescale from the heater plate improves efficiency.
- Check if the wall circuit is overloaded by trying a different socket. Ensure the device is plugged in correctly and the socket can handle the power. Consider other high-power devices on the same circuit (microwaves, coffee machines, toasters) which may limit power and cause fuses to blow or circuits to trip.
4. The device is not turning off after boiling.
Cause:
- Lid is not closed properly.
- Limescale.
- Overfilling the kettle.
Solution:
- Ensure the lid is closed properly. If slightly unattached, steam may escape, preventing the thermostat from reaching the temperature needed for auto shut-off.
- Limescale can increase boiling time. Descale the kettle according to the instruction manual.
- Overfilling the kettle uses more energy. If water enters the steam tube, it can cause continuous boiling. Always fill between the minimum and maximum lines.
5. Outer body is peeling.
Cause: Using harsh abrasive cleaning products.
Solution: Clean with a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent.
