Installation
Step 1: Measure Door Thickness
Ensure your door thickness is between 1-3/4" and 2" (44mm - 51mm).
If door thickness is greater than 2" (51mm), contact Kwikset customer service at 1-800-327-5625. A thick door installation kit may be required.
Step 2: Remove Existing Deadbolt
Your new lock supports door thicknesses of 1-3/4" to 2" (44mm to 51mm) and a door bore hole diameter of 2-1/8" (54mm).
If drilling a new door, use the supplied template and instructions available at kwikset.com/doorprep.
Step 3: Install the Latch
- Extend the latch bolt.
- Ensure the 'UP' marking is on top.
- If the D-shaped hole is not centered in the bore hole, rotate the latch face to extend the latch.
If your door requires a drive-in latch, please contact Kwikset at 1-800-327-5625.
Use the longer screws (03809) if the holes are worn out. You will have two extra screws.
Step 4: Install the Strike and Sensor Magnet
Install the strike plate onto the door jamb. Use the longer screws (46780) closest to the door jamb for a secure fit. Ensure a 1" (25 mm) hole depth for the strike.
Peel the liner from the door sensor magnet.
Place the magnet above the strike on the door jamb. Ensure the surface is clean, and press firmly for 10 seconds.
Step 5: Install the Exterior Assembly
Route the cable from the exterior assembly under the latch.
Ensure the cable goes under the latch.
Step 6: Install the Interior Assembly
Inside the door:
Keep the mounting plate parallel to the door edge.
Tighten the screws (64844) evenly. DO NOT over-tighten.
Route the cable through the bottom hole of the mounting plate.
Insert the key and test the latch. If the latch does not extend or retract smoothly, adjust the screws.
Install the interior assembly onto the mounting plate.
Ensure the spindle fully engages with the turnpiece shaft.
Secure the interior assembly using screws (52502).
Step 7: Install Batteries and Battery Pack
Insert (4) AA batteries (included) into the battery tray. Ensure correct polarity. Use new, non-rechargeable alkaline batteries only.
With the door open, install the battery pack. NOTE: The lock must be installed on the door before inserting the batteries.
Ensure bottom tabs of the battery pack are placed in the slots of the interior assembly before fully inserting the battery pack. The battery pack should be flush after installation if inserted properly.
Complete Your Lock Setup
