Marking Process: Silk Screen Printing

Silk Screen Printing Technical Requirements

  1. The appearance surface must be free from obvious dirt, ink residue, missing prints, blurred/broken lines, uneven ink thickness, misalignment, scratches, and other defects.
  2. Printed content, fonts, font sizes, CMYK values (color codes), and patterns must be consistent with samples. Text must not show jagged edges.
  3. Adhesion Test: Clean the printing area with 99.5% anhydrous alcohol. After drying, apply 3M600 tape to the printed area, using a pencil eraser to enhance contact. After 90 ± 30 seconds, quickly pull off the tape vertically from one end. Repeat 5 times in the same position. The print is considered qualified if no visible detachment occurs.
  4. Alcohol Resistance Test: Soak a pure cotton cloth with >99.5% anhydrous alcohol, wrap it around a dedicated 500g weight (approx. 1cm² contact area). Wipe the sample surface back and forth 50 cycles at 40-60 cycles/minute, with a stroke of about 20mm. The print is considered qualified if the font shows slight wear and fading but remains complete and clearly legible.
  5. Abrasion Resistance Test: Use a dedicated Japanese sand eraser (model: LER902K) with a 500g load. Wipe the sample surface back and forth 50 cycles at 40-60 cycles/minute, with a stroke of about 20mm. The print is considered qualified if the font shows slight wear and fading but remains complete and clearly legible.
  6. All materials must comply with RoHS environmental requirements.

Laser Engraving Technical Requirements

  1. The appearance surface must be free from obvious dirt, residue, missing engravings, blurred/broken lines, burrs, bubbles, scratches, and penetration defects.
  2. Printed content, fonts, patterns, and positions must be consistent with samples. Font sizes must be uniform, and text must not show jagged edges or corrosion.
  3. The print is considered qualified if the paint layer does not change color or detach from the substrate.

CategorySilk Screen Printing Ink Reference Table (For reference only, specific adjustments by ink master)Silk Screen Printing Manufacturer Self-InspectionSelf-Inspection Methods
PaperOil-based inks, water-based inks, high-gloss inks, semi-gloss inks, evaporative drying inks, natural drying inks, coated paper inks, synthetic paper inks, cardboard box inks.1. Foreign matter: Dust or spots, filamentous foreign matter attached to the coating after silk screen printing.1. Tools & Materials: 3M-600 tape, cotton ball, ethanol, force gauge, soft eraser, cotton swab, etc.
PlasticPVC inks, styrene inks, polyethylene inks, acrylic inks, polypropylene, acetate, celluloid, polyester resin inks.2. Underprint: Underprint due to too thin silk screen printing at the position.2. Silk Screen Printing Abrasion Resistance Test: Firmly attach 3M-600 tape to the silk screen printed surface. Hold one end of the tape and quickly pull it off at a 45-degree angle to the tested surface. Repeat 3-4 times in the same position. The print passes if the silk screen print on the tested surface is intact; otherwise, it is rejected. Simultaneously, use a 95% ethanol cotton ball to wipe back and forth 3 times with 5-6N force. It passes if no color loss or change in color depth occurs.
FabricWater-based inks, oil-based inks, emulsion inks, etc.3. Missing print: Required silk screen printing position is not printed.3. Silk Screen Printing Abrasion Test: Fix the tested part on a force gauge. Use a soft eraser to wipe the silk screen printed area back and forth. The force gauge should apply (5±1N) force. One back-and-forth motion counts as one cycle. Test 950-1000 cycles. Confirm that the brightness and color depth of the silk screen printed area do not change after the test, and the silk screen print is intact. This is considered qualified.
WoodWater-based inks, oil-based inks.4. Blurred, broken lines: Poor silk screen printing resulting in uneven thickness of lines and patterns, blurring, or local disconnections.4. Use a cotton swab dipped in 95% ethanol solution to wipe the tested surface 3-5 times. After drying, observe the silk screen print on the tested surface. The tested surface should show no change in gloss, no stickiness, or dissolution. If any, it is a serious defect.
MetalSpecial inks for different metals like aluminum, iron, copper, stainless steel, including evaporative drying, oxidative polymerization, and two-component reactive inks.5. Uneven ink thickness: Due to improper silk screen printing operation, resulting in uneven thickness of dots, lines, or patterns.
LeatherLeather inks.6. Misalignment: Due to inaccurate silk screen printing position, resulting in print offset.
Circuit BoardConductive inks, corrosion-resistant inks, electroplating-resistant, fluorine-resistant, and alkali-resistant inks.7. Poor adhesion: Insufficient adhesion of the silk screen printed coating, can be peeled off with 3M-810 tape.
Ceramic/GlassInks for ceramic and glass ware.8. Pinholes: Pin-sized holes visible on the coating surface.
9. Scratches: Caused by improper protection after silk screen printing.
10. Discoloration, stains: Non-silk screen printing colors attached to the silk screen printed surface.
11. Color difference: Color deviation compared to the standard color swatch.
