Safety Guidelines
Temperature Safety
WARNING!
- When the CTRL+5 housing is not in use, avoid exposing it to direct sunlight for prolonged periods. Some components of the CTRL+5 housing, such as the keypad, cable, and housing, may heat up or become brittle if exposed to the sun for too long, potentially causing skin burns or rendering the CTRL+5 inoperable.
- During prolonged sun exposure, labels may peel off or fade and become illegible.
Electromagnetic Radiation Safety
CAUTION!
The standard version of your CTRL+5 device has been tested in accordance with current regulatory requirements for electromagnetic radiation (EMC requirements). Despite these tests:
Electromagnetic radiation may influence the CTRL+5 housing. This possibility cannot be excluded.
For example:
- Mobile phones.
- Long-range medical devices.
- Other sources of electromagnetic radiation.
The CTRL+5 housing may also create interference with electromagnetic fields.
For example:
- Store entrances.
- Commercial and/or domestic alarm systems.
- Garage door opening systems.
The presence of an EMC event may cause your product to operate erratically.
Should such a problem occur, please report it immediately to your authorized Sunrise Medical dealer.
Choking Hazard Safety
DANGER!
This mobility aid product is composed of small parts which, under certain conditions, may present a choking hazard to young children.
Programmable Controls Safety
WARNING!
It is possible to assign a function to the input control (buttons, jacks) of your seating system. If controls have been assigned to perform a dual function or individual functions, familiarize yourself with the operation of each.
Do not hesitate to contact your authorized Sunrise Medical dealer or Sunrise Medical technical service if you have not received any information on this subject. Failure to comply with this instruction may result in damage to the product or nearby property, and/or injury.
WARNING!
If the electric tilt controls have a lock function, simply press any button on the CTRL+5 module to interrupt the seat movement activated by the lock function. Additionally, you can press the power button of the wheelchair control system to interrupt any electric movement in case of unwanted movement.
WARNING!
Before using the CTRL+5, ensure the user is capable of correctly pressing the CTRL+5 module buttons to stop any unwanted seat movement triggered by the lock function or voice activation.
Voice Control Safety
CAUTION!
Before activating and using voice recognition, ensure the CTRL+5 module is installed in a way that is accessible to the user or attendant so they can reach the buttons or switches and press them.
Environment Safety
CAUTION!
Before activating an electric tilt function, ensure the electric wheelchair is clear of any obstacles that could limit or impede the movement of the tilt system.
Maintenance and Care
The lifespan of your wheelchair depends directly on the quality of its maintenance. For information on specific settings, maintenance, or repairs, contact your authorized Sunrise Medical dealer.
Storage Recommendations
WARNING!
- Store your device in a clean and dry location. This will prevent rust and corrosion on your wheelchair.
- Before reusing your device after a storage period, check its proper operation.
- If you have not used the device for more than three months, have it inspected by an authorized Sunrise Medical dealer before reusing it.
Cleaning and Disinfection
- Wipe the CTRL+5 housing with a cloth once a week.
- In the presence of foreign matter, use a slightly damp (not wet) cloth.
- Remember to dry all components of the device before turning it back on.
- Remember to clean your device regularly. This will help you detect any worn or detached parts. If you notice any detached, damaged, or worn parts, replace them before turning the device back on.
CAUTION!
Remember to wipe all parts of the device if it becomes damp or wet after cleaning or if it has been exposed to water or humidity during use.
CAUTION!
- Do not use solvents, bleach, abrasives, synthetic detergents, polish, or aerosols.
- Disinfectants may be used if diluted according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Ensure surfaces are rinsed with clean water and completely dried.
Hygiene Measures When Transferring Wheelchair Ownership
Before allowing another person to use the wheelchair, it must be carefully prepared. All surfaces that come into contact with the new user must be disinfected.
To do this, you must use a disinfectant listed in the approved/recommended products for your country, for rapid alcohol-based disinfection of products and medical devices requiring quick disinfection. Please read the instructions of the disinfectant product manufacturer.
In general, complete disinfection cannot be guaranteed on seams. Therefore, and in accordance with local regulations for infection control, it is recommended to discard the seat and backrest fabric to avoid microbial contamination by active agents.
Conditions for Secure Storage
- Store products in a dry place with relative humidity between 20% and 75%.
- Keep away from sunlight and dust during prolonged storage periods.
- Keep away from direct heat sources and at a temperature between 5°C and 40°C.

- Do not place anything on top of packaged products when the "Do not stack" notice is displayed on the packaging.
- Never store the product outdoors, exposed to the elements.
Pre-Use Checks
Before each use, check the following:
- Ensure the wheelchair has been charged and turned on.
- Verify that the buttons have been programmed correctly to perform the intended functions.
- To verify that all buttons are programmed correctly, operate them individually.

Product Description and Specifications
A. Product Description
The Switch-It CTRL+5 is a housing that connects to the PG Drives R-Net system and allows configuration of up to ten functions controllable via ten discreet buttons (two buttons per switch). For wheelchair actuator functions, the CTRL+5 housing is pre-programmed with default factory settings. The system allows for the installation of a single CTRL+5 device on a wheelchair.
The expected lifespan of this product is 5 years.

External Microphone Jack
The CTRL+5 module is equipped with a 3.5 mm (1/8-in) audio jack located underneath (Fig. 8). This jack allows connection of an external microphone to improve voice recognition and your overall experience with the CTRL+5.
An external microphone can provide better results in various situations, including:
- Low voice volume: Allows users with a less strong voice to activate voice commands.
- Ambient or environmental noise: Helps overcome difficulty activating voice commands due to high background noise.
- Proximity to the CTRL+5 module: Very useful when the CTRL+5 module is too far from the user or attendant, or if the distance changes during the user's seated movements.
Using an External Microphone:
- Connect the Microphone: Plug a compatible microphone into the 3.5 mm (1/8-in) audio jack at the bottom of the CTRL+5 device.
- Microphone Placement: For optimal performance, position the microphone close to the user or caregiver.
Note: When an external microphone is connected, the internal microphone of the CTRL+5 is automatically disabled.
F. Installation and Programming

Actuators
The indicator light colors will depend on the seating module used.
- With an intelligent seating module (ISM), the indicators (Fig. 9) are all green, yellow, or red.
a. Yellow indicates a drive lock. Green indicates no lock. Red indicates a drive lock.
b. When NO LED is lit, it means the module has not authenticated the wheelchair. To authenticate: turn off the wheelchair, then turn it back on to reactivate the wheelchair. - With an advanced seating module (CxSM), each indicator is associated with the button below it (Fig. 9).
a. When a button is assigned to an option other than seating, the indicator remains lit white.
b. If a button is assigned to a memorized seating position and that position is activated, the indicator flashes green.
c. If a button is assigned to a memorized seating position and a drive lock occurs, the indicator color changes once the position is interrupted.
d. If a button is assigned to a seating position other than a memorized position, the drive lock color changes when the lock occurs.
e. In case of a locked drive, the indicator turns red.
f. When a button is assigned to a seating position for which no drive lock was required, the indicator color turns green.
