Set up your computer
- Connect the power adapter and press the power button.
- Finish operating system setup.
- For Windows: Connect to a network and sign in to your Microsoft account or create a new account.
- For Ubuntu: Follow the on-screen instructions to finish setup.
- Locate Dell apps in Windows. This includes registering your computer and using Dell Help & Support and SupportAssist for updates.
- Create a recovery drive for Windows. It is recommended to create a recovery drive to troubleshoot and fix problems that may occur with Windows.
Create a USB recovery drive for Windows
Dell recommends creating a recovery drive for troubleshooting. An empty USB flash drive with a minimum capacity of 16 GB is required.
NOTE: Steps may vary based on the Windows version. Refer to the Microsoft support site for the latest instructions.
- Connect the USB flash drive to your computer.
- In Windows search, type Recovery.
- In the search results, click Create a recovery drive.
- Click Yes to continue when the User Account Control window appears.
- Select "Back up system files to the recovery drive" and click Next.
- Select the USB flash drive and click Next.
- Click Create. A message will indicate that all data on the USB flash drive will be deleted.
- NOTE: This process may take several minutes to complete.
- Click Finish.
Reinstall Windows using a USB recovery drive
CAUTION: This process formats the hard drive and removes all data. Back up your data before beginning.
NOTE: Ensure your computer has more than 2 GB of memory and more than 32 GB of storage space before reinstalling Windows.
- Connect the USB recovery drive to your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Press F12 after the Dell logo to access the boot menu.
- After the boot menu loads, select the USB recovery device under UEFI BOOT.
- Choose your keyboard layout.
- In the "Choose an option" screen, click Troubleshoot.
- Click Recover from a drive.
- Choose one of the following options:
- Just remove my files to do a quick format.
- Fully clean the drive to do a complete format. - Click Recover to start the recovery process. This will take several minutes and your computer will restart.

Front
- 1. Left microphone: Provides digital sound input for audio recording and voice calls.
- 2. Power and battery-status light: Indicates the power state and battery state. Solid white means the power adapter is connected and the battery is charging. Solid amber means the battery charge is low or critical. Off means the battery is fully charged.
- 3. Right microphone: Provides digital sound input for audio recording and voice calls.
Left
- 1. Power-adapter port: Connect a power adapter to provide power and charge the battery.
- 2. Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) port: Supports USB 3.1 Gen 2, DisplayPort 1.2, Thunderbolt 3, and enables connection to an external display. Provides data transfer rates up to 10 Gbps for USB 3.1 Gen 2 and up to 40 Gbps for Thunderbolt 3.
NOTE: Adapters (sold separately) are required to connect standard USB and DisplayPort devices. - 3. USB 3.0 port: Connect peripherals like storage devices and printers. Provides data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps.
- 4. Headset port: Connect headphones or a headset (headphone and microphone combo).
- 5. Battery-charge status button: Press to check the remaining battery charge.
- 6. Battery-charge status lights (5): Indicate approximately 20% charge each when the button is pressed.
- 7. Left speaker: Provides audio output.
Right
- 1. Right speaker: Provides audio output.
- 2. SD-card slot: Reads from and writes to the SD card.
- 3. USB 3.0 port with PowerShare: Connect peripherals. Provides data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps. PowerShare enables charging USB devices even when the computer is turned off.
NOTE: If the computer is off or in hibernate state, connect the power adapter to charge devices using the PowerShare port. This feature must be enabled in the BIOS setup program.
NOTE: Certain USB devices may not charge when the computer is off or in sleep state. Turn on the computer to charge the device in such cases.
Base
- 1. Touchpad: Move your finger to move the mouse pointer. Tap to left-click and two-finger tap to right-click.
- 2. Left-click area: Press to left-click.
- 3. Right-click area: Press to right-click.
- 4. Fingerprint reader (optional): Press your finger to log in. It recognizes fingerprints as a password.
NOTE: You must configure the fingerprint reader to register your fingerprint and enable access.
- 5. Power button: Press to turn on the computer if it is off, in sleep, or hibernate state. Press to put the computer in sleep state if it is on. Press and hold for 4 seconds to force shut-down.
NOTE: Power button behavior can be customized in Power Options. See "Me and My Dell" at www.dell.com/support/manuals for more information.

- 1. Camera: Enables video chat, photo capture, and video recording.
- 2. Camera-status light: Turns on when the camera is in use.
Bottom
- 1. Service Tag label: A unique alphanumeric identifier that Dell service technicians use to identify hardware components and access warranty information.
