Hardware Overview

The ATEN UC232B / UC232BF is a USB to RJ-45 (RS-232) console adapter. It features:

1. RJ-45 Connector (female): The port for connecting the console cable.
2. Power LED: Indicates the device status.
3. USB Connector: Connects to the computer's USB port.

Installation

Follow these steps to install the UC232B / UC232BF:

Connect the USB connector to the computer and allow the drivers to install. Note: If using an older computer without drivers, download them from the ATEN website before setup.
Plug a straight-through Ethernet cable into the UC232B / UC232BF's RJ-45 connector.
Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable directly to the RJ-45 console port of the target networking device.
For connecting to a standard DB-9 serial port on the target serial device, use a rollover Ethernet cable (and an optional RJ-45 to DB-9 adapter). The maximum Ethernet cable length is 15 meters with a transmission speed up to 921.6 Kbps.
Power on the target device.
