Riding Instructions
This guide assumes familiarity with riding a standard bicycle. If you are new to cycling, an e-bike is too dangerous for learning. Begin with a regular bicycle.
Important Notes:
- Ebikes are Fast: E-bikes can reach higher speeds than many riders are accustomed to. Exercise caution, especially in mixed traffic, and always consider driving and traveling conditions.
- Obey the Law: Follow all provincial and city traffic laws, including obeying stop signs, checking carefully when turning, and riding defensively. An e-bike is a motorized vehicle.
- Stay Sober: Never ride while intoxicated. Maintain control of the e-bike at all times.
- Share the Road: Be careful in mixed traffic. Allow faster vehicles to overtake and give ample room to slower vehicles.
Items to Carry
It is advisable to carry the following items:
- The charger, for recharging if the battery power runs out.
- 30 Amp Fuse (spares, if applicable).
- A lock to secure the e-bike when parked.
- A helmet, as required by safety laws.
Inspecting Your Electric Bike
Always inspect your e-bike before riding to ensure safety features are operating properly. Many accidents can be avoided with routine inspections. Pay attention to any changes in how the bike feels or sounds, as these may indicate mechanical or power issues.
Holding the Handlebars
Place fingers over the brake levers and use palms and thumbs to wrap around the handlegrips. This allows for easy brake activation by squeezing your hand, essential for quick stops. This is the safe way to control your electric bicycle.
Turning Your E-bike On and Off
To turn on your e-bike, press and hold the round button in the middle of the keypad on the left handlebar. Repeat this process to turn the e-bike off.
Warning: When the e-bike is activated, the electrical system is live. Do not attempt to make changes (like removing the battery or repairing electrical components) while the e-bike is activated. Turn the e-bike off and remove the key before accessing electrical components. The battery carries a significant electric charge and must be treated with respect.
Accelerating and Decelerating
The throttle is located on the right-side hand grip. Rotate the grip counterclockwise (away from you) to accelerate. To decelerate, release the grip (turn it towards you). Do not over-rotate the accelerator, as this can damage the battery and electrical components.
Warning: Do not activate the accelerator until you are seated and ready to accelerate. The e-bike can easily escape your control, potentially causing injury or damage.
Stopping
Your e-bike has front and rear brakes, activated by levers on the handlebars. Pull the levers toward you to engage the brakes. Using both brakes provides a quicker stop, while using one can provide a gentler stop. When the brakes are activated, power to the motor is automatically turned off, allowing for safe stopping.
Safety Tips for Brakes:
- In wet weather, water can reduce brake efficiency by decreasing friction. Slow down and allow more stopping distance.
- Have your brakes and brake pads checked regularly, as pads wear down with use.
- Engage the rear brakes first before the front brakes to avoid flipping the unit.
Signalling
Please use appropriate hand signals when riding your e-bike.
Lights
The headlight and tail light improve safety, especially at night or in dark areas. They consume electricity, which may reduce maximum travel distance by approximately 5%.
Pedaling
This e-bike is designed for motor-assisted pedaling. While the motor can be used alone, pedaling in conjunction with the motor increases travel distance and reduces battery draw.
Riding in Wet Weather
Your e-bike is designed for wet conditions, but the rear motor can cause slipping at high speeds. Avoid high speeds in wet weather. Brakes may be less effective due to reduced friction; slow down and allow more stopping distance.
The Motor and Water
The e-bike is not designed for immersion. Ensure water levels do not exceed the middle of the tire to prevent water from entering the motor, which can cause short-circuits and damage electrical systems.
Riding in Cold Weather and Storage
Riding in Cold Weather
The e-bike is designed for year-round operation. However, in very cold conditions or with snow/slush, the motor and brakes may be affected. Battery performance is reduced below 10 degrees Celsius for both Lithium-Ion and Lead-Acid batteries. Cold temperatures may necessitate earlier battery replacement.
Maximum Load
Do not exceed the maximum load capacity specified in the technical specifications. Exceeding the load limit can reduce performance and potentially damage shocks, the mechanism, the frame, or the motor.
Disconnecting the Circuit Breaker
Disconnecting the circuit breaker blocks all power from the battery. This is useful for storage or servicing. Note: The alarm system requires the circuit breaker to be ON. Do not leave it off in an unsafe location if concerned about theft.
Long-Term Storage
For long-term storage, disconnect the circuit breaker to prevent accidental activation. Refer to "The Battery" section for battery maintenance during storage.
The Battery
Always treat the e-bike's electrical systems with respect.
Battery Power
The dashboard has a battery charge indicator. If the power level drops significantly, the e-bike needs charging.
Distance and Power
The battery capacity allows for approximately 35+ km of travel before recharging. Actual range depends on rider weight, wind resistance, driving habits, terrain (hills), and tire pressure.
Saving Power
To conserve electricity on long distances:
- Coasting: Utilize momentum downhill or on flat surfaces without drawing motor power.
- Stopping and Starting: Minimize frequent stop-and-go movements, as the motor draws more power when starting from a standstill.
- Weight: Remove unnecessary weight from the bike.
- Air Pressure: Ensure tires have proper air pressure to reduce drag and increase efficiency.
- Head and Tail Lights: Turn off lights if safe to do so to conserve power (may increase range by ~5%).
- Pedaling: Assist acceleration from a full stop by pedaling.
Charging Your E-Bike
To charge your e-bike, you will need the supplied charger and a 110V household electrical outlet.
Charger Warning: Only use chargers supplied with your e-bike. Using incompatible chargers can irreparably damage the battery and electrical systems and may cause injury.
Charging Steps:
- Turn off the e-bike.
- Plug the female end of the charger cable into the charging slot on the e-bike.
- Plug the male end of the charger power cable into a 110V household electrical outlet or a compatible portable generator.
- Allow the battery to charge for the appropriate amount of time.
- Disconnect the charger when the LED light on the charger turns green, indicating the battery is fully charged.
If the charger's LED status light does not change from red to green after an extended period (e.g., more than 6 hours) and the battery becomes very hot, the battery or charger may need replacement. Stop charging and contact your Daymak dealer immediately. Do not attempt to charge the battery further.
Understanding Your Voltage
Electric bicycles display primary power as voltage. This indicates the unit's power level, which decreases during operation. The range between a full charge and the low voltage threshold varies based on the unit's voltage and battery type (Lithium vs. Lead Acid).
Low Voltage Threshold
Your unit protects the battery by preventing the motor from drawing power below the Low Voltage Threshold, significantly increasing the battery's life expectancy. If the motor starts cutting off or not engaging, it may be due to the voltage dropping past this threshold, requiring a charge. The threshold can be checked via a Bluetooth app (if applicable) or using the provided chart.
Voltage Chart
Voltage | Lead Acid | Lithium Ion | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Full Charge | Low Voltage | Full Charge | Low Voltage | |
24V | 27V | 21V | 29.4V (7S) | 20V (7S) |
36V | 40V | 32V | 42V (10S) | 28V (10S) |
48V | 53V | 42V | 54.6V / 58.8V (20S / 21S) | 37V / 40V (20S / 21S) |
60V | 67V | 53V | 67.2V / 71.4V (16S / 17S) | 45V / 48V (16S / 21S) |
Lithium Full/Low Voltage Reading: The exact low voltage and full charge readings can vary based on the lithium battery's composition. The number followed by "S" in the chart represents the number of series in the battery pack. Contact your local Daymak dealer for the exact series of your battery.

Technical Data
The Motor and Wheel Assembly
The Max uses a magnetic DC brushless motor in the rear wheel hub, providing excellent low-end torque and high efficiency. While quiet, the motor does produce some noise. It includes a speed reduction gear and a speed free clutch.
The Freewheel
The wheels have freewheels, meaning the drivetrain is not fixedly geared. This allows for coasting or traveling downhill with the engine off, enabling higher speeds and power conservation. The motor can rest while the bike continues to move.
The Controller
Daymak pioneered intelligent component control in e-bikes with its Daymak Drive technology, acting as the e-bike's brain. This technology enables faster acceleration, improved hill climbing, and energy savings.
The Brakes
The e-bike is equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, offering fine stopping power and control. This technology requires periodic servicing and tension adjustment. When activated, brake tension increases, engaging the clamps for effective stopping.
The Chain and Pedals
The pedals are connected to the rear wheel via the chain, forming a human-powered drivetrain. The pedals are not removable and should not be removed.
Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
Your unit has a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Record this number and keep it safe for theft protection and warranty registration on Daymak.com. The VIN is typically located on the left part of the frame where the pedal arm connects to the bike.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
This section outlines common problems and potential solutions. Many parts are not user-serviceable; alterations to electrical or mechanical components void the warranty. Service should be performed by trained professionals.
Tire Pressure
Maintain appropriate tire air pressure for optimal performance and to prevent damage. Cold weather reduces pressure, while warm weather increases it. Follow these steps:
- Check the tire sidewall for the recommended pressure.
- Locate the air valve.
- Remove the valve cap.
- Place the pump nozzle over the valve.
- Inflate the tire carefully, not exceeding the recommended pressure.
- Remove the pump nozzle without losing significant air.
- Replace the valve cap.
Proper tire pressure reduces the effort required by the motor, extending travel range.
Replacing Flat Tires
Replacing flat tire tubes on e-bikes is more complex than on standard bicycles, requiring proper tools, skill, and patience. The front wheel is easier to service than the rear wheel, which is connected to the hub motor and other mechanical parts. Attempting to change a rear flat tire without expertise may cause serious issues. Contact your Daymak dealer for specific instructions on safe wheel and tire removal or to have tubes replaced.
The Motor
Do not service the motor yourself. Bring the e-bike to your Daymak dealer. The motor is a complex, fine-tuned mechanism requiring significant expertise. Maintenance is suggested approximately every 100 running hours.
The Chain
Ensure the chain is well-oiled and lubricated. Proper chain maintenance is crucial for the e-bike's function.
Bringing in your E-bike for Service
Do not attempt to service electronic or mechanical parts unless you are confident and knowledgeable about electrical and mechanical equipment. If the e-bike is not performing correctly, disconnect the circuit breaker and bring it to your local Daymak dealer.
Liability
Daymak is not responsible for damage or injuries resulting from improperly serviced parts.
Ebike Maintenance
