Epson ET-2800/ET-2803: Start Here Guide
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your Epson ET-2800 or ET-2803 printer.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin
Read these instructions and the safety instructions in the online User's Guide.
1. Unpack
Note: Do not open ink bottles until ready to fill tanks. Ink bottles are vacuum packed for reliability.
- Remove all protective materials from the product.
- Connect the power cord to the back of the product and to an electrical outlet. Caution: Do not connect to your computer yet.
2. Choose a setup method
The Epson Smart Panel® app offers an interactive, step-by-step setup using your smartphone or tablet.
- To use your mobile device for setup: Continue to step 1.
- If you do not want to use a mobile device: Skip to the "Fill ink tanks" section.
- Download the Epson Smart Panel app from your device's app store. Do not launch the app yet.
- Press the power button [power button] to turn on the product. The power light will flash.
- Note: Do not connect your product to your computer yet.
- Launch the app and follow its instructions to set up your product.
- For information on connecting to a computer, voice-activated printing, troubleshooting, or Epson support, see the sections on the back of this sheet.
3. Fill ink tanks
Warning: Keep ink bottles out of reach of children and do not drink the ink.
Caution: Handle ink carefully. If ink spills, wipe immediately with a damp towel to avoid permanent stains. Ink may not come off clothes or belongings.
Note: Epson cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of third-party ink. Use included ink bottles for setup. Part of the ink is used to charge the print head, so these bottles may print fewer pages than replacement bottles. Epson recommends genuine ink for optimal quality and performance.
- Open the ink tank cover, then open the cap for the black (BK) ink tank.
- Unpack the black (BK) ink bottle. Hold the bottle upright and slowly turn the cap to remove it. Caution: Do not shake or squeeze the ink bottle. Do not touch the top of the ink bottle after its cap is removed.
- Insert the ink bottle into the filling port [insert ink bottle]. Note: Bottles are keyed for each color; do not force them into position.
- Wait for the ink to fill the tank. Do not squeeze the bottle or allow it to contact any other surface. Note: Ink flows automatically and stops when the tank is filled to the upper line. If ink does not flow, lift and reinsert the bottle.
- When the tank is full, remove the ink bottle and securely close it with the bottle cap. Store any remaining ink for later use. Note: Do not leave the ink bottle inserted, as it may be damaged or leak.
- Securely close the black ink tank cap.
- Note: Refer to the color-coded sticker above the ink tank unit to identify each tank's color.
- Repeat the previous steps for the other colors.
- Close the ink tank cover.
- Raise the control panel, then press the power button [power button] to turn on the product. The power light flashes. Note: If an error code appears, turn off the product and check for any remaining protective material inside.
- Select your language. Note: This setting can be changed later via the product's control panel. Refer to the online User's Guide for details.
- When an Epson Smart Panel setup message appears on the LCD screen, select the option to continue setup.
- When the message to see the Start Here sheet appears on the LCD screen, press and hold the help button [help button] for 5 seconds.
- Press the start button [start button] to begin ink charging. This process takes about 11 minutes. Note: Ink charging is complete when the power light stops flashing. After initial setup, remaining ink can be used to top off the tanks. See the online User's Guide for instructions. Caution: Do not unplug, turn off, or open the inner cover during ink charging to avoid wasting ink.
- Note: After charging, the remaining ink is available for printing.
- Press the OK button [OK button] to proceed with initial setup.
15. Adjust Print Quality
Follow the on-screen instructions to adjust the print quality.
Note: Paper must be loaded before adjusting print quality. See "Load paper" for details. Select "Adjust Later" if you wish to adjust print quality at a later time. Refer to the online User's Guide for more information.
Caution: Periodically inspect ink levels. Do not let them fall below the lowest lines on the tanks, as prolonged use could damage the product. See the online User's Guide for refilling instructions.
