EK-Quantum Vector FE RTX 3070 Ti D-RGB + Backplate User Guide
Getting Started
Before installing, please follow these guidelines:
- Read this manual carefully before beginning the installation process.
- Remove your graphics card from the computer for the safest mounting process to prevent damage to your GPU or its circuit board (PCB).
- EK Fittings require minimal force to screw in firmly, as the liquid seal is ensured by rubber O-ring gaskets.
- Using quality, market-proven corrosion-inhibiting coolants is strongly recommended for any liquid cooling system.
- Do not use pure distilled water as a cooling liquid. EK recommends EK-CryoFuel Coolants for best results.
- Ensure all air is bled from your water block thoroughly for optimal performance.

The exploded view diagram shows the assembly of the water block components, with numbered parts corresponding to the table above.
Installation: Preparation
Step 1: Removing the Stock Cooler
Place your graphics card on a flat surface and carefully remove the stock cooler. Disconnect all LED and fan connectors.
Step 2: Cleaning the PCB
After removing the stock cooler, detach it from the board. Wipe off any remaining thermal compound from the GPU's Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) and surrounding components using a non-abrasive cloth or Q-tip. Denatured alcohol is recommended for removing thermal interface material (TIM) residue.
Installation: Thermal Pads
Step 1: Cutting Thermal Pads
The GPU water block includes thermal pads that need to be cut into smaller pieces to cover VRM components like coils, MOSFETs, and drivers. Remember to remove the protective foil from both sides of each thermal pad before installation.
Step 2: Placing Thermal Pads
Once cut to size, place the thermal pads onto the PCB and backplate according to the illustrated diagrams. EK provides an adequate quantity of thermal pads.
Replacement thermal pads: 3x Thermal Pad F 1.0 mm (120 x 16 mm) EAN: 3830046996732, 1x Thermal Pad F 1.5 mm (120 x 16 mm) EAN: 3830046996749, 1x Thermal Pad F 2.0 mm (120 x 16 mm) EAN: 3830046996756.
Installation: Thermal Compound and Water Block
Step 1: Applying Thermal Compound
Apply the provided EK-TIM Ectotherm thermal grease thinly and evenly onto the GPU's heat spreader (IHS), as shown in the diagram. Uneven application may affect performance. ⚠️
Step 2: Removing the Backplate
Unscrew the six (6) pre-installed backplate screws (M2.5 x 7 AX1) and carefully remove the backplate. Save these parts for later use. You will need a Phillips Head Screwdriver ?.
Step 3: Removing the I/O Bracket
Unscrew the three (3) M3x5 screws using a Phillips Head Screwdriver ? and remove the original I/O bracket. Save these parts for later use.
Step 4: Placing the Water Block
Carefully position the water block, with its pre-installed standoffs, onto the graphics card. Ensure the mounting holes on the PCB align with the holes on the water block. Avoid applying excessive force, as GPU chip dies can be fragile.
Step 5: Attaching the Water Block
Secure the water block to the graphics card using four (4) M2.5 x 4 AX1 screws and M2.5 PVC washers. Tighten screws evenly with a Phillips Head Screwdriver ?. Always use a plastic washer under each screw.
Step 6: Attaching the I/O Bracket
Attach the original I/O bracket back onto the water block assembly using the stored three (3) M3x5 screws and one (1) M2.5x4 AX1 screw. Do not use excessive force.
Installation: Backplate
Step 1: Installing the Backplate
Align the backplate with the PCB and ensure all mounting holes match. Insert six (6) M2.5 x 7 AX1 screws into the corresponding holes and tighten them evenly with a Phillips Head Screwdriver ?.
Required Tools: Phillips Head Screwdriver ?, Scissors ✂️.
Backplate Dimensions: Length: 196 mm, Width: 97.5 mm, Thickness: 5.5 mm.
Installation: Final Steps
Checking for Contact
If necessary, temporarily remove the water block to verify uniform surface contact between the block and the GPU components, especially the VRM section. Ensure the water block makes contact with the intended integrated circuits. Repeat previous steps if needed. ⚠️ If good contact is not achieved, re-check or contact EKWB support at https://www.ekwb.com/customer-support/.
Inserting into Chassis
Carefully lift the graphics card with the installed water block and insert it into your PC's motherboard PCIexpress expansion slot. Be aware that the card will be heavier. Handle the assembly with care to avoid damage. ⚠️
Installation: Fittings and Tubing
Step 1: Installing Fittings
Screw in two (2) G1/4 threaded male fittings. Attach liquid cooling tubes and connect the water block(s) to the cooling loop. Plug any unused openings with the provided EK-Plug G1/4 or equivalent. Any opening can be used as an inlet/outlet port. EK recommends using EK fittings with all EK water blocks.
CAUTION: When using non-EK fittings, ensure the male G1/4" thread length does not exceed 5mm.
Installation: D-RGB LED Strip
Step 1: Connecting the D-RGB Header
Connect the 3-pin D-RGB connector from the GPU water block to the D-RGB Header on your motherboard or controller. The LED strip will function only if the header pin layout is: +5V, Data, Empty, Ground. Incorrect installation can damage the LED strip or header. ⚠️
Testing the Loop
To ensure a successful installation, EKWB recommends performing a 24-hour leak test. Once the loop is complete and filled with coolant, connect the pump to a PSU outside your system (do not power other components). Turn on the PSU and let the pump run continuously. Inspect all parts for leaks and fix any issues. Ensure all hardware is dry before powering on the system.
