3. Connecting Speakers & Subwoofer
Diagram showing the rear panel of the AV receiver with speaker terminals labeled for FRONT (FL, FR), CENTER (C), SURROUND (SL, SR), and SUBWOOFER (PRE OUT SUBWOOFER 1). It illustrates connecting speaker cables, noting positive (+) and negative (-) wires, and connecting the subwoofer cable.
Speaker cables have two wires: one for connecting to the negative (-) terminal and the other for the positive (+) terminal on both the receiver and speaker.
- Remove approximately 3/8" (10 mm) of insulation from the end of each speaker cable and twist the bare wires firmly together.
- Loosen the speaker terminals on the receiver and speakers, then insert the prepared wires and tighten the terminals.
- Connect the subwoofer using the supplied subwoofer cable to the receiver's 'PRE OUT SUBWOOFER' jack.
Ensure the AV receiver is not plugged into the power outlet while connecting speakers.
4. Connecting Antennas
Diagrams show the assembly and connection of antennas. The AM antenna is placed on a flat surface. The FM antenna is fixed to a wall using a pin or tack (not included).

7. Preparing a Network Connection
Illustrations show network connections: a wireless connection with antennas raised, and a wired connection from the receiver to a router, then to the internet, NAS, or PC.
Prepare a wired or wireless network connection according to your network environment.
Note: The wireless antennas must be raised if the unit will be connected to a Bluetooth® device.
8. Setting Up MusicCast
MusicCast is a wireless solution that allows you to share music among all your rooms with a variety of devices.
Using MusicCast CONTROLLER
To use the network features on your MusicCast compatible device, you need the free, dedicated app "MusicCast CONTROLLER." Search for it on the App Store or Google Play and install it on your device.
Adding your receiver to the MusicCast network
Perform the following procedure to add the unit to the MusicCast network. Note: You will need the SSID and security key for your network.
- Tap the MusicCast Controller app on your mobile device and tap "Setup." Note: If you've previously connected other MusicCast-compatible devices to the network, tap "Settings" and then "Add New Device."
- Follow the app's on-screen instructions.
- Press and hold the CONNECT button on the front panel of the receiver for five seconds, as instructed by the app.
- Follow the app's on-screen instructions to configure network settings. When a connection has been established, "Completed" will appear on the receiver's display.
9. Optimizing the Speaker Settings Automatically with YPAO
The Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) function detects speaker connections, measures distances to your listening position(s), and automatically optimizes speaker settings like volume balance and acoustic parameters for your room.
Preparing for YPAO measurement
- Press the receiver power button and switch the TV input to display video from the unit (HDMI OUT jack).
- Turn on the subwoofer and set its volume to half.
- Place the YPAO microphone at your listening position and connect it to the YPAO MIC jack on the front panel. The setup screen will appear on the TV.
- Place the YPAO microphone at your listening position, at the same height as your ears. Using a tripod as a microphone stand is recommended; the tripod mount on the microphone can be used for stabilization.
Optimizing the speaker settings automatically (YPAO)
- Press ENTER. The measurement will start in 10 seconds and takes about three minutes. The measurement results screen will appear on the TV upon completion.
- If an error or warning message appears (e.g., E-1, W-2), consult the owner's manual for details.
- Use the cursor keys [Left/Right Arrow] to select "SAVE" and press ENTER.
- Confirm the displayed results and press ENTER.
- Disconnect the YPAO microphone from the unit.
Important: Do not leave the YPAO microphone in a place exposed to high temperatures for extended periods.
Test tones are output at high volume and may surprise small children. Test tone volume cannot be adjusted. Keep the room as quiet as possible. Position yourself in a corner behind the listening position to avoid obstructing the speakers or microphone. Do not connect headphones.
