Discover Heat & Energy Recovery
A tightly built, high-performance home conserves energy and lowers heating and cooling bills. Without proper mechanical ventilation, homes suffer from stale air, odors, moisture problems, and poor indoor air quality. Aldes Residential Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) combine energy and cost savings with balanced indoor air quality ventilation.
An Aldes HRV/ERV can recover up to 72% of the heat that would otherwise be exhausted, translating to real savings on energy bills while keeping the home precisely ventilated and climate controlled. These residential models are suited for apartments, condos, and single-family homes up to 4,000 sq ft.
Aldes residential models are compact and high-performing, engineered for streamlined installation and durable, worry-free use. Installers will appreciate their quick setup, with no complex duct connections or lengthy airflow balancing required. Aldes has manufactured ventilation systems for over 35 years, blending innovation and experience. Homeowners can trust Aldes HRVs or ERVs to last for years and pay for themselves in energy savings.
HOW THEY WORK
In the heating season, Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) draw in fresh air from outside. This air is distributed throughout the home via a dedicated-duct system or the forced-air heating/air conditioning system. Simultaneously, vents in moisture- and pollutant-producing rooms (e.g., kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms) exhaust an equal amount of stale, humid air outside. Air can also be drawn from the return air of a forced-air heating/air conditioning system.
As the two airstreams pass through the unit's core, the fresh air is tempered with heat recovered from the exhaust air. An ERV also transfers moisture to the fresh air if it is drier than the exhaust air, improving comfort in dry homes.
In the cooling season, the process reverses. Fresh outdoor air is cooled by the air-conditioned exhaust air. If the outgoing air is drier than the fresh air, the ERV transfers moisture to the outgoing air, reducing the humidity load on the air conditioning system and preventing the continuous introduction of humid summer air.
Diagram Description: Illustrates the principle of heat and energy recovery. Fresh air enters from outside, stale air exits to the outside. Within the unit, these airstreams exchange heat (and moisture for ERVs) before distribution.

INSTALLATION CONFIGURATION OPTIONS
- Fully Ducted System: The most desirable configuration, recommended for best results in all climate types.
- Dedicated Exhaust Points with Distribution of Fresh Supply Air through the Central H/AC System: A hybrid approach using the system as an effective exhaust fan, distributing fresh air via the central H/AC duct system. Unit balance can be challenging.
- Exhaust from H/AC Return and Distribution of Fresh Air through H/AC System: The least desirable solution due to difficulty in assuring balanced airflow and potential moisture problems in ducts during warm, humid seasons. Requires a knowledgeable installer.
HRV OR ERV: WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE?
Choosing between an HRV and an ERV depends on factors like house size, occupant number, building tightness, and climate. Outdoor humidity is often the deciding factor. An ERV is best for hot, humid conditions in the southern United States, especially when paired with an air conditioner. In very cold climates, the moisture difference between indoor and outdoor air is minimal, reducing the benefit of an ERV's moisture transfer. Areas with cold winters and warm summers can benefit from either an HRV or ERV. Specific issues like indoor relative humidity problems may make one more suitable than the other.
Map Description: A map of the United States indicates regions where HRV (blue), HRV or ERV (light blue), and ERV (dark blue) are recommended based on climate and humidity levels.

VENTZONE® SYSTEMS ARE THE MOST ENERGY EFFICIENT VENTILATION SYSTEM ON THE MARKET TODAY.
VENTZONE® IAQ WITH HRV OR ERV KEY BENEFITS
The combination of centralized zoned exhaust ventilation, whole-house IAQ, and heat/energy recovery makes this system efficient and innovative. Homeowners benefit from healthy indoor air quality throughout the home, with extra boost ventilation in bathrooms as needed. The entire ventilation system requires only two penetrations to the outside of the home, compared to one per bathroom plus two for the ERV with other systems. Compatible controllers automate the system's response to indoor environment changes.
New and improved air exchanger models feature an onboard 24V low-voltage power supply for up to 5 zone register terminals. The system is designed for installation by a single trade in most cases. Check local codes.

VentZone® Systems and the patented Zone Register Terminals® (ZRT) have earned the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Innovation Award for ventilation.
ZRT® VENTZONE® SYSTEMS
Two popular products form the VentZone® System: The Zone Register Terminal® - Residential version (ZRT-R) and an Aldes Heat or Energy Recovery Ventilator (HRV or ERV). Aldes ZRTs provide zoned bathroom exhaust, offering a unique solution.
Other systems typically ventilate bathrooms in two ways:
- Individual fans for each bathroom: Expensive, requiring purchase, installation, and exterior wall penetration for each bathroom.
- Inline bathroom fan connected to all bathrooms: Wastes energy and can over-ventilate, as all bathroom exhaust is controlled together, preventing independent operation.
THE ALDES WAY
Centralized zoned bathroom exhaust. ZRTs replace individual fans or grilles found on remote inline fan kits. ZRTs are multifunctional, providing two types of ventilation:
- Continuous low-level ventilation: Maintains healthy indoor air.
- Boosted ventilation: Removes humidity, odors, and other pollutants from bathrooms as needed.
ZRTs control ventilation so individual bathrooms are exhausted only as needed (demand-controlled ventilation). This zone-by-zone airflow control saves energy and reduces the load on heating and cooling systems.
How do ZRTs work with the ventilator to control airflow?
Each ZRT controls a specified amount of continuous whole-house IAQ ventilation via a constant airflow regulator when the damper is closed. When activated by a switch, timer, dehumidistat, or occupancy sensor, the ZRT damper opens to ventilate at a higher CFM rate, rapidly removing steam, odors, or pollutants. Low-voltage power for controls and ZRTs is supplied by the Aldes heat or energy recovery ventilator. This offers ease of installation, time, and cost savings.
During normal operation, the air exchanger maintains a specified lower airflow for whole-house IAQ. When a zoned ZRT control is activated, the air exchanger automatically increases airflow to provide boosted ventilation to that space, while maintaining low-level ventilation in other areas. This provides energy-efficient, balanced ventilation, ensuring fresh air intake when air is exhausted, preventing negative pressure and maximizing energy recovery.
