Continental RightViu®: Enhancing Safety for Vulnerable Road Users
A comprehensive solution for preventing accidents during vehicle turns.
The Challenge: Stressful Turns, Hidden Dangers
Trucks are a common sight on roads, and other road users must remain vigilant. Pedestrians and cyclists face significant hazards around trucks, especially during turns. A truck's blind spot can easily engulf them, putting them at serious risk and causing stress for the driver.

The Solution: Continental RightViu® Turn Assist System
Accident scenarios involving turns can be prevented with advanced turn assist systems. Many European countries are actively promoting road safety and the retrofitting of such systems. Accident-free driving is a shared goal, and turn assist systems are becoming mandatory: starting in 2022 for new vehicle models and in 2024 for newly licensed vehicles.
RightViu® utilizes radar technology from automotive production, enhanced with application-specific software for Vulnerable Road User (VRU) detection.
Greater Safety for Vulnerable Road Users
This is a critical societal issue, with lawmakers increasingly focused on road safety. Continental offers a tailored solution. The company's mission is to provide products that meet customer needs, addressing the frequent cause of accidents: turning maneuvers by drivers with restricted visibility. Minimizing this risk is paramount.
Continental provides state-of-the-art technology and high-quality products, backed by extensive experience, aiming for a future with zero accidents. The RightViu® turn assist system detects people and objects at the vehicle's side, where the risk of injury from turning accidents is highest.
Benefits for You:
- Continental's extensive knowledge and experience combined in a product designed for specific situations: RightViu®.
- Eligibility for funding from some European governments.
- Official approval and homologation for road service.

High Accuracy: Proven Technology in OEM Quality
RightViu® is mounted at a height of at least 2 meters on the vehicle or rear mirror, assisting drivers during turning maneuvers. The system employs a radar sensor to detect persons or objects within the vehicle's danger zone, issuing warnings via two distinct signals to alert the driver of potential collisions.
RightViu® extends the driver's field of view by 4 meters to the right and 14 meters to the rear. Its radar-based technology and VRU software enable it to detect moving objects.
The VRU software simplifies the human-machine interface, eliminating the need for an additional display. A dual signal system, combining a light (?) and a buzzer (?), allows the driver to react quickly in emergencies.

Our Retrofitting Solution: For a Future with Zero Accidents
RightViu® offers a simple, fast, and reliable retrofitting solution. Its flexible, modular system can be quickly adapted to any vehicle model, with retrofitting possible using either a short or long arm as required.
Safety and Ease of Retrofitting: RightViu® can be retrofitted to vehicles of all types – short or long, light or heavy, including trucks (?), buses (?), dump trucks, garbage trucks, and silo vehicles. Switching trailers is straightforward as RightViu® is installed in the tractor vehicle. No maintenance is required post-installation, and the system features self-diagnosis capabilities with results transmission.
Calibration and initial setup are performed by specialist workshops. Continental provides the necessary workshop training and ongoing support.

Application: Retrofitting Has Never Been So Easy
The retrofitting process is designed for simplicity:
- 1️⃣ Placement: The radar sensor is mounted on the mirror arm at a height of at least 2 meters.
- 2️⃣ Cabling: Cables are routed through the door into the vehicle's cab.
- 3️⃣ Installation of Warning System: The buzzer (?) and warning lamp (?) are mounted on the A-pillar.
- 4️⃣ Calibration: The system is calibrated before it is put into use.
