IKEA BOAXEL Assembly Instructions
This document provides assembly instructions for the IKEA BOAXEL system.
Important Safety Information
WARNING! Serious or fatal crushing injuries can occur from furniture falling down. To prevent this furniture from falling down, it must be used with the wall attachment device(s) provided. Screw(s) and plug(s) for the wall are not included. Assess the suitability of the wall to ensure that it will withstand the forces generated. Use screw(s) and plug(s) suitable for your walls and the intended load. If you are uncertain, seek professional advice. Read and follow each step of the instruction carefully.
This warning is repeated in multiple languages throughout the document, emphasizing the critical need for secure wall mounting to prevent furniture tip-over accidents.
Tools Required
The following tools are typically required for assembly:
- Screwdriver
- Pencil
- Spirit Level
- Saw
- Ladder
- Drill
- Measuring Tape
Assembly Steps
The assembly process involves several steps, generally including:
Step 1: Prepare Wall Mounting
Determine the desired height for the BOAXEL uprights. Mark the wall at the top of the uprights, ensuring a 6 mm (1/4") distance from the ceiling. The system comes with uprights of 100 cm (39 3/8") and 200 cm (78 47/64").
The diagram shows how to measure and mark the wall for the uprights.
Step 2: Install Uprights
Attach the BOAXEL uprights to the wall using appropriate screws and wall plugs (not included). The diagrams illustrate the process of attaching the uprights, showing the use of screws and the importance of a level installation.
The system accommodates different shelf lengths, indicated by 'X mm' and 'X+20 mm' in the diagrams, suggesting adjustable spacing.
Step 3: Secure Uprights
Use a spirit level to ensure the uprights are perfectly vertical before fully securing them. The diagrams show the process of marking and drilling holes, and then inserting screws and wall plugs. Various screw lengths and wall plug types may be needed depending on the wall material.
The document specifies different lengths of uprights (62 cm, 82 cm, 182 cm) and indicates the number of screws required for each (3x, 3x, 5x respectively).
Step 4: Attach Shelves
The BOAXEL system allows for flexible shelf placement. The diagrams show how to attach shelves to the uprights. For example, shelves can be placed at 60 cm (23 5/8") or 80 cm (31 1/2") intervals.
The assembly involves inserting shelves onto brackets and securing them with screws. The diagrams show the use of 8 mm (5/16") screws and wall plugs.
Step 5: Final Assembly and Placement
The final steps involve attaching any remaining components, such as additional shelves or brackets, according to the desired configuration. The diagrams illustrate the overall structure of the assembled BOAXEL system.
The document shows the use of 4x screws for 100 cm uprights and 8x screws for 200 cm uprights, further emphasizing the need for secure wall mounting.
Step 6: Shelf Installation Detail
Detailed views show how to slide and secure the shelf brackets onto the uprights. This step ensures the shelves are firmly in place.
Important Notes

- Wall mounting screws and plugs are not included and must be purchased separately, chosen based on your wall type and the intended load.
- If you are unsure about any part of the assembly or wall mounting, consult a professional.
- Read and follow all instructions carefully.
