Safety Instructions
⚠️ WARNING! For your safety, follow the information in this manual to minimize the risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
Safety Precautions
- Use this appliance only for its intended purpose as described in this Owner's Manual.
- This air conditioner must be properly installed according to the Installation Instructions before use.
- Never unplug by pulling the power cord. Grip the plug firmly and pull straight out.
- Immediately replace any frayed or damaged electric service cords. Do not use cords with cracks or abrasion damage.
- Turn the mode control OFF and unplug the air conditioner before cleaning.
- GE does not support servicing the air conditioner. Do not attempt to service it yourself.
- Do not store or use combustible materials, gasoline, or flammable vapors/liquids near this or any other appliance.
- Refrigerants in air conditioners must be removed by a disposal company according to federal law.
How to Connect Electricity
For personal safety, this appliance must be properly grounded. Do not cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord.
The 3-prong grounding plug mates with a standard 3-prong grounding wall outlet to minimize electric shock hazard.
Have the wall outlet and circuit checked by a qualified electrician to ensure proper grounding.
If a 2-prong wall outlet is encountered, it is your responsibility to replace it with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.
Always plug the air conditioner into its own individual electrical outlet matching the rating plate. This ensures best performance and prevents overloading house wiring circuits, which could cause a fire hazard from overheating wires.
Refer to the Installation Instructions, Electrical Requirements section for specific connection details.
Extension Cords and Adapter Plugs (115-Volt Models)
⚠️ WARNING! Due to potential safety hazards, GE strongly recommends against using extension cords.
If an extension cord is necessary, it must be UL-listed, 14-gauge, 3-wire grounding type with a grounding plug and outlet, rated for at least 15 amperes and 125 volts.
⚠️ CAUTION: DO NOT use an extension cord with 230/208 volt models.
⚠️ WARNING! GE strongly recommends against using adapter plugs.
If an adapter plug is used where local codes permit, ensure it's for a temporary connection to a properly grounded 2-prong wall outlet. Align the larger slot of the adapter with the larger slot of the wall outlet for proper polarity.
When disconnecting the power cord from an adapter, hold the adapter in place to prevent the ground terminal from breaking with repeated use. If the adapter ground terminal breaks, DO NOT use the air conditioner until a proper ground is established.
Attaching the adapter ground terminal to a wall outlet cover screw does not guarantee grounding unless the screw is metal, not insulated, and the outlet is properly grounded through house wiring. Have the circuit checked by a qualified electrician.
READ AND FOLLOW THIS SAFETY INFORMATION CAREFULLY. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

Troubleshooting Tips
Save time and money!
Problem | Possible Causes | What To Do |
---|---|---|
Air conditioner does not start | The air conditioner is unplugged. The fuse is blown/circuit breaker is tripped. Power failure. |
Make sure the air conditioner plug is pushed completely into the outlet. Check the house fuse/circuit breaker box and replace the fuse or reset the breaker. If power failure occurs, turn the air conditioner OFF. When power is restored, wait 3 minutes to restart the air conditioner to prevent tripping of the compressor overload. |
Air conditioner does not cool as it should | Airflow is restricted. The temp control may not be set correctly. The air filter is dirty. The room may have been hot. Cold air is escaping. Cooling coils have iced up. |
Make sure there are no curtains, blinds, or furniture blocking the front of the air conditioner. On touch pads: In COOL mode, press the DECREASE pad. On control knobs: Turn the temperature knob to a higher number. Clean the filter at least every 30 days (see Operating Instructions). When first turned on, allow time for the room to cool down. Check for open furnace registers and cold air returns. Set the air conditioner's vent to the closed position. See "Air conditioner freezing up" below. |
Air conditioner freezing up | Ice blocks the air flow and stops the air conditioner from cooling the room. | On control knobs: Set mode control at HIGH FAN or HIGH COOL with temp at 1 or 2. On touch pads: Set controls at HIGH FAN or HIGH COOL and set thermostat to a higher temperature. |
The remote control is not working | The batteries are inserted incorrectly. The batteries may be dead. |
Check battery position for correct (+) and (-) direction. Replace the batteries. |
Water drips outside | Hot, humid weather. | This is normal. |
Water drips indoors | The air conditioner is not tilted to the outside. | For proper water disposal, ensure the air conditioner slants slightly from the case front to the rear. |
Water collects in base pan | Moisture removed from air and drains into base pan. | This is normal for a short period in low humidity areas; normal for longer periods in very humid areas. Water may overflow and drip from the outdoor side. |
"E1" appears in the display | Function error code. | Unplug the air conditioner. Wait 3 minutes and plug it back in. |
Normal Operating Sounds
- You may hear a pinging noise caused by water being picked up and thrown against the condenser on rainy days or when humidity is high. This helps remove moisture and improve efficiency.
- You may hear the thermostat click when the compressor cycles on and off.
- Water will collect in the base pan during high humidity or on rainy days. The water may overflow and drip from the outdoor side of the unit.
- The fan may run even when the compressor does not.
