  1. Cleaning of a surface with soap liquid: hand cleaning of all organic and non-organic contaminations, followed by washing off the soap liquid.
  2. Cleaning of a surface using abrasive clay for removing stubborn contaminations.
  3. Degreasing of all surfaces where the film will be applied, especially areas that will be bent.
  4. Drying of the surface, checking for impurities, and measuring/marking the film on elements.
  5. Cleaning of dust from surfaces using sticky dust wipes.
  6. Applying installation liquid on the surface, removing the liner, wetting the adhesive surface of the TPU film, and installing the film onto the surface.
  7. Forming the film on the surface using instruments, bending the film, and heating the element.
  8. Cleaning of excess liquid, drying the wrapped surface, and polishing.

Installation Liquid

Several mixtures can be used for applying PPF film, each with different characteristics and effects:

  • Water: Does not soften the adhesive, keeping it active. Not recommended for large surfaces due to the risk of complete adhesion.
  • Soap mixture: A mixture of liquid soap and water (15 parts soap to 100 parts water). The soap's pH must be 0. This mixture softens the adhesive, allowing the film to slide and be applied/formed more easily, with air and water bubbles moved out readily. Application may take longer.
  • Alcohol mixture: A mixture of 95% alcohol and water (3-4 parts alcohol to 6-7 parts water). This liquid activates the adhesive and strengthens its bond with the surface. Use with caution as it may lead to early adherence and signs of uneven stretching.

General Recommendations

  • Use hard polyurethane squeegees for larger surfaces and softer Teflon squeegees for bending vinyl edges. Ensure all tools have proper, sharp edges and are kept clean.
  • The cleanliness and quality of water used directly impact installation quality. Keep the water sprayer clean.
  • Uneven stretching can damage any film, including PPF. Stretch the film evenly and properly while it is on the surface. Avoid lifting the film once it's in place, as this can cause it to absorb heat faster and lead to uneven stretching, resulting in visible lines or broken reflections.
  • For small and simple elements (e.g., under door handles, back wheel arches, doorways), use alcohol mixture or clean water. For medium-sized elements of medium difficulty, use a combination of soap mixture and alcohol mixture. Alcohol mixture can be applied to edges for stronger adhesion.
  • Edges of the PPF should be heated significantly, potentially reaching over 80°C when bending.
  • The protective layer of the PPF should be removed just before installation.
  • Moisten the surface of the PPF with liquid during application to prevent scratching.
  • Recommended installation temperature: 18°C - 24°C.
  • Recommended storage temperature: 10°C - 20°C.

Removal

Paint protection film can be removed easily at any time by lifting a corner and pulling at a 30°-90° angle. Steam can soften the material, easing removal and helping to keep the adhesive on the film, thus saving effort during the cleaning process. Alternatively, a heat gun can soften the adhesive, but it may cause the adhesive to split, requiring more extensive cleaning.

Film Structure

The TeckWrap Paint Protection Film is composed of multiple layers:

  • 01 Protective Film: A removable protective PET film.
  • 02 Clear Coat: A heat-sensitive self-healing coating.
  • 03 Urethane: The raw TPU material.
  • 04 Adhesive Layer: A pressure-sensitive polymer made from a self-curing adhesive and acrylate.
  • 05 Liner: A PET release liner.
