TeckWrap® Paint Protection Film

Technical Data Sheet & Installation Guide

Model: PPF290-G85 | Feature: Gloss Clear PPF with Hydrophobic Feature

Introduction

TeckWrap PPF290 is a high-performance aliphatic thermoplastic polyurethane film (TPU) designed to protect surfaces. Its key characteristics include excellent mechanical properties, UV resistance, high transparency, and a high-gloss finish, effectively preventing vehicles from damage caused by stone chips and scratches.

Paint Protection Film Benefits and Features

  • Provides protection from damages caused by stone chips, scratches, salts, insects, splatters, and minor abrasions.
  • Prevents the paint from fading, prolonging its lifespan.
  • Significantly increases surface brightness, resulting in an outstanding finish.
  • Features Thermal Remediation Technology (TRT), utilizing a curing PU solvent developed with TRT for excellent performance and high stain resistance.
  • Includes a Hydrophobic feature (PPF290-G85) with a Lotus Effect.

Installation Stages

  • Cleaning of the surface with soap liquid: hand cleaning of all organic and non-organic contaminations, followed by washing off the soap liquid.
  • Cleaning of the surface using abrasive clay for removing stubborn contaminations.
  • Degreasing all surfaces where the film will be applied.
  • Drying the surface, checking for impurities, and measuring/marking the film on elements.
  • Cleaning dust from surfaces using sticky dust wipes.
  • Applying installation liquid on the surface, removing the liner, wetting the adhesive surface of the TPU film, and installing the film.
  • Forming the film on the surface, rolling with instruments, bending the film, and heating the element.
  • Cleaning excess liquid, drying the wrapped surface, and polishing.

Installation Liquid Options

Several mixtures can be used for PPF application, each with different characteristics and effects:

  • Water: Does not soften the adhesive, keeping it active. Not recommended for large surfaces due to the risk of complete adhesion.
  • Soap mixture: A mixture of liquid soap and water (15 parts soap to 100 parts water). Essential that the soap's pH is 0. Softens the adhesive, allowing the film to slide and be applied/formed easily, with air/water bubbles moved out. Takes longer to apply.
  • Alcohol mixture: A mixture of 95% alcohol and water (3-4 parts alcohol to 6-7 parts water). Activates the adhesive and strengthens its bond with the surface. Carries a risk of early adherence and signs of uneven stretching.

General Recommendations

  • Use hard polyurethane squeegees for larger surfaces and softer Teflon squeegees for bending vinyl edges. Ensure all application tools have proper, clean, and sharp edges.
  • The cleanliness and quality of water, as well as the water sprayer, directly affect installation quality.
  • Uneven stretching can damage any film, including PPF. Stretch the film evenly and properly while it is on the surface. Avoid lifting the film once applied; lifting can cause it to absorb heat faster, leading to uneven stretching, broken reflections, or lines.
  • For small/simple elements (e.g., under door handles, wheel arches, doorways), use alcohol mixture or clean water. For medium-difficulty elements, use a combination of soap mixture and alcohol mixture. Alcohol mixture can be applied at edges for stronger adhesion.
  • Edges of PPF should be heated significantly, potentially reaching over 80°C when bent.
  • Remove the protective layer just before installation.
  • Moisten the PPF surface with liquid during application to prevent scratching.
  • Recommended installation temperature: 18°C - 24°C.
  • Recommended storage temperature: 10°C - 20°C.

Removal

Protection film can be removed anytime by lifting a corner and pulling at a 30°-90° angle. Steam or a heat gun can soften the material and adhesive, easing removal and potentially preserving the adhesive on the film. Using a heat gun might lead to adhesive splitting, requiring more cleaning effort.

Film Structure

The TeckWrap PPF is composed of multiple layers:

  • 01 Protective Film (50 µm): Removable protective PET film.
  • 02 Clear Coat (8 µm): Heat-sensitive self-healing coating.
  • 03 Urethane (6.2 mil / 7.2 mil / 9.2 mil): The core TPU raw material.
  • 04 Adhesive Layer (28 µm): Pressure-sensitive polymer made of self-curing adhesive and acrylate.
  • 05 Liner (75 µm): PET release liner.
