Pro-Ject Debut E Carbon Setup Guide
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for setting up your Pro-Ject Debut E Carbon turntable.
Getting Started
- Ensure you have ample space for unpacking and setup in a clean environment.
- Retain all original packaging for potential service or returns. Using original packaging prevents damage and ensures dealer acceptance.
- Setup is demonstrated using the Debut E Carbon model.
Setup Instructions
- Step 1: Unpack Accessory Bag
Contents typically include: a) RCA cable, b) Standard flat belt for 33/45 RPM, c) Cartridge alignment protractor, d) Round belt for 78 RPM, e) Anti-skating weight, f) Adapter for 7" singles, and an Allen key (1.5mm) for azimuth adjustment.
- Step 2: Remove Dust Cover Carton
Carefully remove the carton containing the dust cover from the main box.
- Step 3: Lift Turntable from Box
Lift the wrapped turntable unit out of its packaging.
- Step 4: Remove Protection Covering
Gently remove the protective covering. Handle the tonearm with extreme care as it is fragile.
- Step 5: Unpack Counterweight
Take the counterweight out of its packaging.
- Step 6: Unpack Power Supply
Remove the power supply unit from its packaging.
- Step 7: Unpack Platter
Unpack the turntable platter.
- Step 8: Install Drive Belt
Place the flat drive belt onto the small motor pulley and the sub-platter.
Manual Speed Change: Small pulley for 33/45 RPM, Large pulley for 78 RPM.
- Step 9: Mount Platter and Feltmat
Place the platter and the felt mat onto the turntable spindle.
- Step 10: Remove Tonearm Tie
Carefully remove the twist tie securing the tonearm.
- Step 11: Attach Counterweight
Screw the counterweight onto the rear rod of the tonearm.
- Step 12: Remove Stylus Protection
Remove the protective cap from the stylus. Note: Cartridge type may vary by region.
- Step 13: Place Record on Platter
Put a record onto the platter.
- Step 14: Position Tonearm
Carefully place the tonearm in the space between the platter and the tonearm rest.
- Step 15: Balance Tonearm (Vertical)
Adjust the counterweight forwards or backwards along the rod until the tonearm floats horizontally, parallel to the platter.
- Step 16: Set Tracking Force Zero Point
Turn only the front dial of the counterweight (do not rotate the entire weight) so that the '0' marking aligns with the indicator mark on the tonearm.
- Step 17: Set Tracking Force
Turn the entire counterweight counter-clockwise until the scale on the dial reads between 18 and 20.
- Step 18: Attach Anti-Skating Weight
Place the loop of the anti-skating weight into the second groove on the tonearm's vertical post.
- Step 19: Connect Power Supply
Plug the power supply into the turntable and a wall outlet.
- Step 20: Install Dust Cover
Unpack the dust cover and place it onto the turntable hinges.
- Step 21: Select Playback Speed
Use the rocker switch located on the bottom left of the turntable base to select the playback speed.
- Step 22: Speed Selection Guide
LEFT position: 33 RPM. RIGHT position: 45 RPM / 78 RPM. The motor stops when the switch is in the middle position.
- Step 23: Enjoy Music!
Remove the dust cover for the best playback experience.
Connecting Your Model and Possible Setups
Debut E Carbon
Connect to any amplifier with an integrated phono amplifier, or use an external phono preamplifier. An RCA cable is included.
Example Setup: Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 (bookshelf speakers) and Pro-Ject MaiA (stereo integrated amplifier).

Debut E Carbon Phono
Select "Line Out" to connect to an amplifier without a phono stage. Select "Phono Out" if your amplifier has a built-in phono stage.

If you encounter an issue, first consult your dealer. If the problem persists, the unit may need to be sent to the responsible distributor. For warranty repairs, ensure the unit is safely disassembled and correctly packaged in its original packaging. Key parts to pack separately include the lid, counterweight, anti-skating weight, and belt. Attach the cartridge protection cap and tonearm transport lock before packaging.
Warranty Terms and Conditions
A warranty is valid for products purchased from an authorized Pro-Ject Audio Systems retailer or dealer and is limited to repair or replacement at the manufacturer's discretion. Transportation costs and risks are not covered. The warranty is valid only for the original owner and requires proof of purchase. Claims must be made within two years of purchase. The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by incorrect use, negligence, unauthorized modifications, faulty ancillary equipment, accidents, or acts of nature.
