  • WARNING! This notice indicates a specific hazard or unsafe practice that could result in severe personal injury or death if the proper precautions are not taken.
  • CAUTION! This notice indicates a potentially hazardous situation that may result in minor or moderate injury if proper practices are not taken.
  • NOTICE! This notice indicates that a specific hazard or unsafe practice will result in equipment or property damage, but not personal injury.

Work Area

  1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well-lit and free of distractions. Place lights so you are not working in a shadow.
  2. Keep anyone not wearing the appropriate safety equipment away from the work area.
  3. Store tools properly in a safe and dry location. Keep tools out of the reach of children.
  4. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases, dust or liquids.
  5. Use only in a well-ventilated area.

Personal Safety

WARNING! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Personal Protective Equipment

  1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes. Eye protection equipment should comply with CSA Z94.3-07 or ANSI Z87.1 standards based on the type of work performed.
  2. Wear the appropriate type of full-face shield in addition to safety goggles, as the work can create glare or infrared/ultraviolet light.
  3. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment and tool.
  4. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the work environment.
  5. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent a foot injury.
  6. Wear the appropriate rated dust mask or respirator.

Personal Precautions

Control the tool, personal movement and the work environment to avoid personal injury or damage to the tool.

  1. Do not operate any tool when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
  2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the moving parts of a tool. Keep long hair covered or bound.
  3. Do not overreach when operating the tool. Proper footing and balance enables better control in unexpected situations.
  4. Support the workpiece or clamp it to a stable platform. Holding the workpiece by hand or against your body may lead to personal injury.

Specific Safety Precautions

WARNING! DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product (gained from repeated use) replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. If you use this tool unsafely or incorrectly, you can suffer serious personal injury.

  1. Use the correct tool for the job. This tool was designed for a specific function. Do not modify or alter this tool or use it for an unintended purpose.
  2. Do not use the tool if it is not completely assembled or if any parts are damaged, broken or misplaced. Repair or replace the parts.
  3. The tip of this soldering iron is sharp and can become very hot. Never let your fingers or hands touch the tip.
  4. Do not lay a hot soldering iron down on its side.
  5. Do not point the tip of the soldering iron at another person.
  6. Do not solder live circuits.
  7. Only ever hold the soldering iron by the insulated gripping surfaces. This protects you should the tip contact a live wire.
  8. Do not use any power tool with a malfunctioning power switch or control. A power tool that fails to respond to the controls is dangerous and can cause an injury. A qualified technician must repair and verify the power tool is operating correctly, before it can be used.
  9. Ensure the power supply matches the tool's motor voltage (see Specifications).
  10. Avoid unintentional starts. Ensure the switch is off when connecting to the power source.
  11. Disconnect the power source before installing or servicing the tool.
  12. Keep hands and fingers away from the work area. Any part of the body contacting the tool's working parts could result in an injury.

Battery Precautions

CAUTION! Only charge a battery with a charger designed for that purpose. Do not use modified chargers or a charger that does not specify the voltage, amperage or recharge rate. Improper charging can lead to battery rupturing.

WARNING! Never burn batteries, as they can explode in a fire. Do not charge leaking batteries. Only a qualified service technician should perform maintenance on the battery pack. Contact local solid waste authorities for instructions on correct disposal or recycling of the battery pack.

WARNING! Do not disassemble the charger or battery. Lithium batteries contain toxic and volatile materials that are dangerous.

This tool is only for use with the appropriate, specific Li-ion battery pack, which is not included in this kit.

  1. Do not expose or use the battery or the charger in damp or wet locations.
  2. Do not expose the battery to heat or throw it in a fire. The contents are flammable and the battery may explode. Remove any source of ignition such as an open flame or a tool like a heater from the area.
  3. Discontinue using or charging a Li-ion battery if it changes shape or is abnormally hot. The battery may leak or ignite. Move the battery to a fire proof location and observe for 15 minutes. Safely dispose of the battery.
  4. Do not allow a rechargeable battery to fully discharge. This will damage the battery. Recharge the battery as soon as possible.
  5. Do not charge the battery when the temperature is below 0 °F (32°C) or above 113 °F (45 °C).
  6. When the battery or the charger is not in use, ensure it is kept away from metal objects.
  7. If any leakage of the battery occurs, cease operations and dispose of the battery appropriately. If leakage comes into contact with your skin, wash it off quickly and thoroughly.
  8. Do not use a battery or charger that has been dropped, crushed or received a sharp blow.
