FURUNO FCV-38: Stabilized Fish Size Indicator

Stable echo presentation in all sea conditions!

Optimize your fishing operation with Split-beam technology

The FCV-38 is a high-performance 4 kW fish finder featuring a 38 kHz transducer and advanced split-beam technology. This combination provides excellent depth detection capabilities and contributes to reliable fish size estimation. It delivers accurate information on fish schools and the seabed, even in challenging stormy weather, thanks to its unique beam stabilizer.

Multi-directional Beam Transmission

Multi-directional beam transmission and reception enables simultaneous search and display across up to five directions, enhancing situational awareness.

Stabilized Target Presentation in Rough Sea Conditions

A built-in motion sensor provides unique detection capabilities and a stable image, even in rough seas. With connection to a SATELLITE COMPASS™, the heave offset function ensures a constant, stable display of echoes. The FCV-38's exclusive Stabilizer Technology stabilizes both the transmit (TX) and receive (RX) beams independently, ensuring picture accuracy and reliable fish size measurements despite the vessel's motion.

Diagram Description: A visual comparison shows the effect of the motion sensor. 'Stabilizer ON' depicts the sonar beam accurately tracking a target fish. 'Stabilizer OFF' illustrates the beam being affected by pitching and rolling, causing it to miss the target fish.

Fish Size and Target Graphs

The FCV-38 offers fish size measurements presented in an easy-to-understand graph format, with support for up to three graphs simultaneously. By analyzing fish size, volume, and movement, operators can make informed decisions about fishing operations and resource management.

Diagram Description: The fish size graph displays the distribution of detected fish sizes, showing peak size and average size, with a bar graph indicating the number of samples for each size category. The target graph plots the location of individual fish within a circular range relative to the vessel, available in vertical and horizontal views.

Advanced Capabilities

Data Output and Analysis

The system can output scientific data in netCDF4 format, valuable for fish stock assessment. It supports long-range detection up to 1,500 meters and can display net sensor information from compatible models. A hardness and roughness graph aids in monitoring seabed conditions. Features like scroll-back mode allow reviewing past data, while data recording and screenshot functions simplify echo review.

Zoom Modes and Operation

Various zoom modes, including bottom lock, bottom zoom, marker zoom, and discrimination zoom, allow for detailed analysis of specific areas, with an expansion range from 2m to 200m depth. The FCV-38 supports saving up to 99 screenshots and replaying echo data. Operation is made easy and quick via a trackball control unit and a customizable InstantAccess bar™.

System Configuration

Diagram Description: The system configuration diagram illustrates the interconnected components of the FCV-38 system, including the processor unit, transceiver unit, monitor, trackball control, and transducer, along with various interface connections like USB, LAN, RS-485, and NMEA0183.
