Pioneer VSX-LX505 Initial Setup Guide

This guide provides initial setup instructions for the Pioneer VSX-LX505 AV Receiver.

STEP 1: Speaker Connections

This document uses a 7.1 channel system as an example. Refer to the online manual for other configurations.

7.1 Channel System Speaker Layout:

FL, FR: Front Speakers
C: Center Speaker
SL, SR: Surround Speakers
SBL, SBR: Surround Back Speakers
SW: Powered Subwoofer

Speaker Placement Angles:

a: 22° to 30°
b: 90° to 110°
c: 135° to 150°

Connecting Speakers:

Connect speakers with 4 Ω to 16 Ω impedance. Twist the ends of the speaker cable wires tightly.

Connection Example:

Connect the Front Left (FL) and Front Right (FR) speakers to the corresponding terminals.
Connect the Center (C) speaker.
Connect the Surround Left (SL) and Surround Right (SR) speakers.
Connect the Surround Back Left (SBL) and Surround Back Right (SBR) speakers.
Connect the Powered Subwoofer (SW) to the subwoofer output.

STEP 2: Connecting to Your TV

Connect the receiver to your TV using an HDMI cable.

Connection Types:

ARC TV: Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT (ARC) port on the receiver and the HDMI IN (ARC) port on your TV.
Non-ARC TV: Connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the receiver and an HDMI IN port on your TV.

Info: Be sure to insert the HDMI cable all the way in.

Connecting Other Devices:

Connect other audio/video sources like DAB/FM/AM antennas, digital antennas, and game consoles to the appropriate input ports on the receiver.

STEP 3: Initial Setup

Follow the on-screen prompts on your TV for the initial setup.

On-Screen Setup Steps:

Select Language: Choose your preferred language from the list (English, Deutsch, Français, Español, Italiano, Nederlands, Svenska, Русский язык, 中文).
Network Connection: Configure your network settings.
Speaker Setup: This is the first step in the receiver's setup process.
Multi Zone Sound Check: Perform a sound check for multi-zone audio.
ARC Setup: Configure the Audio Return Channel (ARC) settings.
Dirac Live / Full Auto MCA: Advanced audio calibration options.

Performing Initial Setup:

Use the receiver's remote control to navigate the setup menu.

To redo the initial setup:

Navigate to "System Setup" > "Miscellaneous" > "Initial Setup" on the receiver's menu.

Troubleshooting:

If you encounter issues:

Try restarting the unit by switching it to standby and then back on.
Unplug the power cord and HDMI cables, then reconnect them.
Update the firmware.
Initialize the settings (perform while the unit is ON).
