Quick Start

The Reveal FirePRO X features a custom-designed interface for speed and efficiency in Fire and Rescue situations. Follow these steps to get started.

Charging your Battery

For best results, fully charge your Reveal FirePRO X using the included USB cable before each use. When the thermal camera is off, the Battery Charging screen appears briefly and can be refreshed by pressing any button.

Reveal FirePRO X provides up to 4 hours of imaging time on a full charge.

Setting up your Device

To turn on the device, press and hold the CENTER button until the screen lights up. The button-function ribbon at the top of the screen indicates the function of the three buttons above it.

Use the LEFT and RIGHT buttons to navigate setup screens, and the CENTER button to select. For numerical fields, LEFT subtracts and RIGHT adds to the displayed value.

To turn off the device, press and hold the CENTER button for 2 seconds until the screen goes dark.

During initial setup, you will be prompted to configure basic information like language and date/time formats. Use the RIGHT and LEFT buttons to scroll, and the CENTER button to select and proceed. The process concludes with a 'setup complete' screen.

If you need to change initial setup information or settings later, you can restore the device to factory settings via the 'Restore' option in the Device menu. This will reboot the device and require re-entry of initial setup information. A hard reset (press and hold CENTER for 30 seconds) can recalibrate battery settings if the device fails to power on.

Home Screen and Interface

Home Screen

After initial setup, the device enters Active Imaging mode. The screen displays a thermal image, temperature readings, and status indicators.

Diagram Description: The screen shows a thermal image of a person in a structure. A temperature color bar is displayed at the top, ranging from 150°C to 550°C. A reticle is centered on the image, indicating the focal point for temperature measurement. The Seek Thermal watermark is in the bottom left, and battery life is in the bottom right.

Temperature Color Bar

Press and release the CENTER button to toggle overlay information, including the temperature color bar, on or off.

The color bar displays a temperature range up to 1022°F (550°C). The lower number indicates the temperature at which colorization begins. In Fire Mode, temperatures below 150°C appear black and white with high dynamic range; temperatures above this begin to colorize in shades of yellow, orange, red, and purple. A title indicator shows the current mode, and the numerical temperature at the reticle's focal point is displayed.

Reveal FirePRO X Interface Overview

Modes

The Reveal FirePRO X offers three modes optimized for Firefighters and First Responders. Press the LEFT button to cycle through them.

Fire Mode

Displays images in shades of gray, with areas of extreme heat appearing bright orange/red, corresponding to the temperature bar. This mode is designed for locating active fire and caution areas, and is useful for detecting hotspots during size-ups and overhaul.

Diagram Description: A thermal image displays a scene with a prominent red/orange area indicating high heat, set against a grayscale background. Temperature readings (150°C, 550°C) and the mode indicator 'FIRE' are visible.

Survey Mode

Uses a monochromatic filter palette with shades of blue, transitioning to white, yellow, and red for hotter areas. This mode is optimal for locating downed personnel and victims during search and rescue operations.

Diagram Description: A thermal image shows a scene with multiple figures. Areas of moderate heat are depicted in yellow, while hotter areas are red, against a predominantly blue background. Temperature readings (375°F) and the mode indicator 'SURVEY' are visible.

Color Mode

This is a demonstration mode, best suited for classroom settings, highlighting areas of heat in red with colorful borders as temperature decreases. It serves as a useful demo for observers but is seldom used in the field.

Diagram Description: A thermal image displays a colorful spectrum, likely representing heat distribution, with a central object highlighted. Temperature readings (95°F) and the mode indicator 'COLOR' are visible.

Menu and Settings

Menu Access

To access the menu, simultaneously press and hold the LEFT and RIGHT buttons for one second. The menu screen will appear.

Diagram Description: The menu screen displays navigation options: UP, SELECT, DOWN. The main menu items are listed: GALLERY, TEMPERATURE, DEVICE, ABOUT. Below these are POWER OFF and EXIT buttons. Time (10:15AM), Date (1/1/18), and battery status are shown at the bottom.

The Menu provides access to your gallery of saved images, temperature unit switching (°F/°C), and device settings/information.

Gallery

Entering the gallery allows you to view or delete saved photos.

Temperature

Select this option and use the CENTER button to choose between Fahrenheit (°F) and Celsius (°C) for temperature viewing.

Device

Selecting 'Device' opens a screen for adjusting date, time, and language; accessing flashlight and power settings; enabling/disabling the Seek Thermal watermark; and restoring factory settings.

To engage the flashlight, press the SIDE button on the right. Pressing it four times cycles through 'high', 'low', 'strobe', and 'off'. The flashlight operates regardless of the camera's power state.

Capturing and Managing Photos

Taking a Photo

  1. Press the RIGHT button to capture an image.
  2. The camera freezes the frame, displaying a white border around the image perimeter. Photo capture is instant; moving the camera during capture does not degrade image quality. The temperature at the screen's center is saved as metadata in the .PNG file, viewable on a PC.

Reviewing your Photos

  1. Press LEFT and RIGHT buttons simultaneously to access the main menu, then press RIGHT to go to 'Gallery'.
  2. Press the CENTER button to view photos. Photos display the recorded temperature at the reticle, date/time in the footer, and the current photo number within your gallery. Use LEFT/RIGHT buttons to scroll.
  3. To exit the gallery, press the CENTER button for options: 'cancel' (return to gallery), 'exit' (return to thermal imaging), or delete the selected photo.

Deleting Photos

  1. While reviewing photos, press and release the CENTER button for "options".
  2. Use LEFT/RIGHT buttons to scroll to the "Delete" option.
  3. Press the CENTER button to confirm deletion. The next saved image will appear.

Downloading Images

Images can be downloaded by connecting the Reveal FirePRO X to a computer via the included USB cable. The magnetic connection port on the device accepts the cable in one orientation.

Photos can be copied or dragged to your computer (Mac or PC) for storage. They are located in the DCIM\100SEEKT folder and are saved as standard .png files, which can be edited and annotated. Reveal FirePRO X saves metadata like temperature units, but displays spot temperature data only if the reticle is 'ON'.

Always perform an eject or dismount operation on your computer before disconnecting the USB cable to prevent SD card corruption.

Maintenance

Cleaning the lens

Cloudy or low-quality thermal images may result from dirt on the lens. Cleaning the lens can improve image clarity and quality.

Required materials for cleaning:

  1. Apply a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to a Q-tip until slightly damp.
  2. Gently rub the reflective inner lens of the camera with the damp Q-tip until clean.
  3. Lightly pat and dry the lens with a clean cloth, or let it air dry.

Never use window cleaners, harsh chemicals, or cleaning solvents on your Reveal FirePRO X. Do not spray anything directly onto the screen.

Troubleshooting

The device will not power on.

If the battery is completely discharged and thermal imaging won't start:

  1. Charge the battery and power on the thermal camera.
  2. If the screen remains black, power-cycle the Reveal device.

The thermal image appears blurry.

The thermal image appears noisy.

I cannot find the device on my computer when I plug it into my USB port.

Check your file system (e.g., Explorer in Windows, Finder in Mac OS) and verify external memory devices are recognized.

The flashlight is dimmer than usual.

This can occur when the battery voltage drops significantly. The flashlight dims to preserve battery life and allow the thermal imager to continue functioning.

The camera keeps making a clicking noise.

This is normal behavior, indicating the camera is adjusting and calibrating the image for optimal quality.
