Recommendation
Amplifier performance depends on proper installation. Correct installation enhances the overall performance of your car sound system. The EMA amplifier should be installed by a trained professional. If installing yourself, read these instructions carefully and allocate sufficient time.
Health Protection Note
During music playback, be aware that continuous sound-pressure levels above 100 dB can cause permanent hearing damage. High-performance systems can reach levels above 130 dB.
Safety Notes
- Disconnect the negative pole of the battery. Observe the vehicle manufacturer's safety notes.
- When drilling holes, ensure no vehicle components are damaged.
- The cross-section of the plus and minus cables must be at least 6 mm².
- Use cable glands for holes with sharp edges.
- Incorrect installation can lead to malfunctions in vehicle electronic systems or the car sound system.
Installation and Connection Instructions
For accident safety, the EMA 455 must be secured professionally.
Select a dry installation location with sufficient air circulation for cooling. Avoid installing on rear shelves, rear seats, or other open-to-front locations. The location must support the mounting screws securely.
The amplifier power cable must be fitted with a fuse no more than 30 cm from the battery to protect against short circuits. This fuse protects only the amplifier, not the vehicle battery.
Use loudspeakers with 2-4 Ω impedance. Observe maximum power handling capacity. Do not connect loudspeakers to earth; use only the specified terminals.

Audio Inputs
Two audio input options are available:
- Cinch (RCA)
- Hi level (loudspeaker connections)
Use only one input type to avoid audio interferences. Preamplifier outputs connect to cinch sockets via shielded cable. For hi-level inputs, connect to the closest loudspeaker cables, observing polarity. Bridge output stages (BTL) can connect directly.
Plus/Minus Connection
- Recommended minimum cross section: 6 mm².
- Route positive cables to the battery via a fuse holder.
- Use cable glands for sharp-edged holes.
- Secure negative cables to a clean chassis screw or metal point (not the battery negative pole).
- Clean contact surfaces and apply graphite grease.
Integrated Fuses
Fuses protect the amplifier and electrical system. Use only replacement fuses of the same type and rating; never bridge or replace with higher current fuses.
Connection Examples
Refer to diagrams for connection examples:
- Voltage supply connection: Fig. 2
- Audio inputs: Fig. 3
- Loudspeaker connections: Fig. 4/5/6
Remote Connection
Connect the amplifier to a switchable +12V source (e.g., car radio's ignition signal) to enable automatic on/off switching.
Level Control
Adjusts input sensitivity to match the preamplifier output voltage (0.2 V to 10 V). If using a third-party system, consult its data for adjustment.
Turning the control clockwise increases sensitivity and volume. This is not a master volume control; it adjusts how quickly the volume increases as the car's head unit volume is turned up.
Loudspeaker Connections
Correct polarity between amplifier and loudspeakers is crucial for good bass response. Connect positive (+) to positive (+) and negative (-) to negative (-). Ensure left channel connects to left loudspeaker and right channel to right loudspeaker.
Bridged Loudspeaker Connections
The EMA amplifier can be bridged for mono configuration, suitable for subwoofers or mid-range drivers. This combines left and right channels into a single mono output.
Note: Both left and right RCA connections must be made for bridged operation.
Caution: In bridged mode, the amplifier load must be 4 Ω or higher. Lower loads can cause overheating, shutdown, or permanent damage.
Adjusting Frequency Crossovers
Select the crossover type (Low Pass or High Pass) and frequency. For subwoofers, use Low Pass settings. The entry frequency depends on the loudspeaker's frequency range.
High-Pass
At 80 Hz setting, the amplifier covers 80 Hz to 30,000 Hz.
Low-Pass Frequency Control
Active when the switch is set to "Low-Pass". Allows setting the desired entry frequency. Example: At 150 Hz, the range is 10 Hz to 150 Hz.
Bass Boost
Adjusts bass response with options: 0 dB / +6 dB / +12 dB.
Power-on Indicator
Green LED (PWR/PRO): Output stage on, normal operation.
Red LED: Output stage electronically switched off due to an error.
Recycling and Disposal
Please use available return and collection systems for product disposal.
