1.2 Applied model

This service guide applies to the following Samsung printer models:

  • CLX-2160 series
  • CLP-300 series
  • CLP-350 series
  • CLX-3160 series

1.3 Problem description(Symptom)

The printed page exhibits a vertical streak defect. During printing, an abnormal noise may also occur.

Example of vertical streak image

Images show printed pages with noticeable vertical streaks. These streaks appear as thin, repeating lines or bands of discolored toner running down the page. One example displays a prominent red streak on a website printout.

1.4 Cause

Black toner adheres to the Dr-Blade due to toner stress. Consequently, toner cannot be transferred to the Deve-Roller.

Diagram Description: The diagram shows the interaction between the OPC drum, Dr-Blade, and Deve-Roller. Toner particles are shown adhering to the Dr-Blade (labeled 'Toner adherence'), preventing proper transfer to the Deve-Roller, which contains many toner particles. This indicates a failure in the toner transfer process.

2. Service Countermove Method

2.1 Solution

  1. Clean the LSU window and perform a Firmware upgrade on the machine.
  2. If the issue persists after the firmware upgrade, check the serial number of the imaging unit to ensure compatibility with the BK deve unit:
    • Manufactured Imaging unit before July 2007: BK deve unit (JC97-02616E)
    • Manufactured Imaging unit before August 2007: BK deve unit (JC97-02616A)
  3. Replace the BK Deve Unit and perform a Firmware upgrade.

2.2 How to treat the BK Deve Unit

Note: Consideration of the imaging unit's manufacturing date is necessary when replacing the BK Deve unit.

Parts NameParts codeDistinction of BK deve unitCheck Method
MEA UNIT-DEV K(old)JC97-02616EManufactured before July. 2007
Initial Imaging Unit: ~ CNE3JC9603610CCD5G9P7xxxxxx
After market Imaging Unit: ~ BY74BQGP7xxxxxx

MEA UNIT-DEV K(new)JC97-02616AManufactured after August 2007
Initial Imaging Unit: ~ CNE3JC9603610CCD5G9P8xxxxxx
After market Imaging Unit: ~ BY74BQGP8xxxxxx
Image Description: Close-up of an imaging unit with a serial number indicating it was manufactured after August 2007. A red circle highlights a different specific component area.

2.3 How the S/N is composed of Imaging Unit.

The serial number (S/N) on the imaging unit provides manufacturing details.Example S/N: CNERIC9603610FBP3AP700069 on a CLP-300 Series(E) IMAGING-UNIT.

  • Manufacturing Origin: CN indicates China, KR indicates Korea.
  • Part number: This is the SAMSUNG parts number.
  • Manufacturing Year: Letters correspond to years (e.g., L = 2006, P = 2007, Q = 2008).
  • Manufacturing Month: Months are mapped to letters (e.g., Jan-Sep = 1-9, Oct = A, Nov = B, Dec = C).

2.4 Firmware Upgrade Method

  1. Connect the PC and printer using a USB cable.
  2. Turn on the printer. Ensure it is in 'Ready Status'.
  3. Drag the firmware (f/w) file and drop it onto the 'usbprn2.exe' application. The firmware update will start automatically.
  4. Wait for the process to complete and the printer to reboot.

2.5 How to replace the black deve of Imaging unit

Follow these steps to replace the black deve unit:

  1. Remove the two screws as shown in the image.

Image Description: Hands using a screwdriver to remove two screws from the imaging unit. Red arrows point to the screw locations.

  2. Caution: When removing screws, use paper to protect the OPC surface.
  3. Release the hook from the right side of the OPC unit by pulling the lever.

  5. Pull the waste toner device of the OPC unit in the direction of the arrow and lift it up.

Image Description: Hands pulling the waste toner device upwards, following a red arrow.

  6. Release the OPC unit.

Image Description: A hand detaching the OPC unit from the main assembly. A red circle highlights the release point, and an arrow shows the removal direction.

Caution: Be careful of the spring on the yellow deve unit; avoid losing it.

  7. Take out the defective deve unit.

  8. The black deve unit is now replaced.

Image Description: The new black deve unit is shown installed.

  9. After replacing the new deve unit, assemble the OPC unit. Ensure the hooks and holes align correctly during assembly.

Image Description: Hands assembling the new deve unit into the OPC unit. Red arrows and circles highlight the proper alignment of hooks and holes.

  10. Tighten the two screws.

Image Description: Hands using a screwdriver to tighten two screws. Red circles indicate the screw locations.

  11. Check if the OPC unit is assembled correctly.

Image Description: A hand checking the assembly by gently manipulating a part. A red arrow indicates the direction of the check.

3. Packing Guide for pick up or exchanger

If an imaging unit is sent without packing the toner bottle hole, toner leakage can cause a mess. It is essential to use the plug (Cap deve) when moving the imaging unit. If a cap deve is unavailable, use alternatives like toner bottles or waste paper to pack the hole.

3.1 In case of not packing the hole

Improper packing results in a messy imaging unit, as shown in the accompanying images, due to toner leakage.Image Description: Three images display imaging units in a messy state, indicating toner leakage likely caused by not packing the toner outlet hole.

3.2 Paking Method

CAUTION: You must plug the hole using the methods described below when moving the imaging unit.

  • In case of using the cap deve:

Image Description: An imaging unit with a green plastic cap, labeled 'Cap deve', inserted into the toner outlet hole. Red circles highlight the cap's position.

  • In case of using the cap bottle in a waste bottle:

Image Description: A white plastic cap from a toner bottle is shown being inserted into a waste bottle. An arrow indicates the movement.
