Pioneer XDJ-R1 Firmware Update Guide
Before Start
Please download the firmware from the Pioneer Support site and prepare a USB memory stick for updating the firmware of the XDJ-R1.
- An internet connection is required to download the firmware. Ensure you are logged in with a computer administrator's account to install the firmware.
- It is recommended to create a backup of the unit's hot cue information before updating. Select [BACK UP] > [SAVE] from the [UTILITY] screen. Refer to the XDJ-R1 [Operating Instructions] for details.

- For any questions, please contact the Pioneer Customer Support Center.
Preparing for the Update
- Access the following URL: http://pioneerdj.com/support/
- Select [Player/DJ system] > [XDJ-R1] > [Software download] > [Firmware].
- Follow the instructions to download the firmware to your computer.
- Unzip the downloaded file. The file will be named [xdj_xxxx.bin], where xxxx are numerical characters.
Note: Do not change the file name. If the same file is downloaded twice to the same folder, the second file's name might be altered.
- Copy the unzipped file to the root directory of a USB memory stick.
Use a USB (Mass Storage Class) memory stick formatted in FAT or FAT32.
Note: Ensure only one update file is saved on the USB memory device during the update process.
Updating the Firmware
Note 1: Press the [STANDBY/ON] button to turn off the unit. Disconnect all devices and cables except the power cable.
Note 2: Remove all CDs and other USB devices from the unit before starting the update.
- Turn on the power of the XDJ-R1 while pressing the [SHIFT] and [USB] buttons on the left deck. The message [DOWNLOAD] will be displayed on the unit's screen.
- Insert the USB stick containing the update file into the USB terminal.
- Start the update. The current and updating firmware versions will be displayed on the XDJ-R1 screen. A progress bar will show the update process.
Note: Ensure the USB stick is securely inserted and keep the XDJ-R1 powered on during the update.
- Complete the update. The update process takes approximately 6 minutes, and the message [COMPLETE] will be displayed on the screen.
- Turn off the power of the XDJ-R1 and remove the USB stick. The update is now complete.
- Check the firmware version after the update. Turn on the XDJ-R1 and verify the firmware is correctly updated by following the steps in the "Checking the firmware version" section.
If the update does not start or finish within 10 minutes, the downloaded file may be corrupt. Restart the process from "Preparing for the Update". If the update still cannot be completed, the USB device might be the cause; try using a different USB stick.
If the error message (E-7024) appears on the XDJ-R1 screen after powering on post-update, restart the firmware update process from the first step.
If you continue to experience issues updating the firmware, please contact the Customer Support Center.
