First-Time Setup
Making Necessary Connections for Device Configuration
- Establish a power supply using the included or another suitable mains cable or the included external power adapter connected to a power outlet. Observe the adjacent safety instructions.
- For devices with an integrated DSL modem only: If available and required, connect the G.FAST / VDSL / ADSL interfaces to a TAE socket of your provider using appropriate cables.
- Connect other required device interfaces via suitable cables or modules to other components and, if applicable, attach the supplied antennas for devices with cellular and/or WLAN interfaces.
Select a Configuration Method
Depending on the device's equipment, choose one of the following configuration methods:
- a) Configuration via the Local Network: Connect one of the device's ETH or LAN interfaces via an Ethernet cable to a network switch or directly to the configuration computer (e.g., notebook). The CONFIG or COM interface is not suitable for network configuration.
- b) Configuration via the Serial Interface of a Connected Computer: You need a serial configuration cable, whose network connector is connected to the CONFIG or COM interface of the device. This socket is exclusively intended for connection to a serial interface.
- c) Configuration via the USB Interface of a Connected Computer: You need a standard USB-C connection cable, which is connected to the CONFIG interface of the device.
Options for First-Time Setup of the Unconfigured Device
Option 1: Via a Web Browser (WEBconfig)
Configuration via a web browser is a simple and fast method, as no additional software needs to be installed on the computer used for configuration.
Select the description a) or b) below that applies to your situation for device configuration.
Note: If a certificate warning appears in your browser when attempting to connect to your device, there is a button or link on the displayed browser page to establish the connection to the device anyway (depending on the browser used, usually under 'Advanced').
- a) Configuration in a Network without an Active DHCP Server: For configuration via TCP/IP, the device's IP address in the local network (LAN) is required. After power-on, an unconfigured LANCOM device first checks if a DHCP server is active in the LAN. The device can be accessed by any computer with Auto-DHCP enabled using a web browser at the IP address 172.23.56.254. The default IP address can be changed at any time.
- b) Configuration in a Network with an Active DHCP Server: In this procedure, the DNS server used in your network must be able to resolve the hostname reported by the device via DHCP. If a LANCOM device is used as the DHCP and DNS server, this is the case by default. You can access your device via https://LANCOM-DDEEFF. Replace the string "DDEEFF" with the last six digits of your device's MAC address, found on the device's type label. If necessary, append your local network's domain name (e.g., '.intern').
- When connecting the computer to an unconfigured LANCOM device, the WEBconfig Setup Wizard 'Basic Settings' starts automatically.
- After completing the Setup Wizard, the device's first-time setup is complete.
- If necessary, perform further configurations using the available Setup Wizards.
Option 2: Via the Windows Software LANconfig
Please wait until the device's startup process is complete before starting LANconfig.
- Unconfigured LANCOM devices are automatically found by LANconfig in the local network (LAN) and then the 'Basic Settings' setup assistant is started.
- After completing the setup assistant, the device's first-time setup is complete.
- If necessary, perform further configurations using the available setup assistants.
Download LANconfig from www.lancom.de/downloads.
Option 3: Via the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC)
Special prerequisites are required for configuring the device via the LMC. Information on this topic can be found at www.lancom.de/lmc-zugang.
