1. Installation
Precautions
Caution:
- There is a mechanical difference of -0.25 to +0.25° at the clamping end. Adjust externally using a shim.
- Adjust the clamp end angle so the clamp arm contacts the workpiece at +3° or less. Contacting at more than +3° may damage the clamp cylinder.
- Use a speed controller. Set unclamping to clamping time to 1 second or more, and clamping to unclamping time to 1 second or more. Excessive kinetic energy can cause damage.
- The product can be mounted on the side or front. Install with the specified tightening torque and ensure proper engagement length.
- Screw tightening torque and engagement length:
Thread size Tightening torque [Nm] Min. engagement length [mm] M8x1.25 12.5~15 10 M10x1.5 24.5~29.4 11 - Positioning pin engagement length:
Positioning pin size Min. engagement length [mm] ∅8H7 9 ∅10H7 11 - When using a side guide, attach it so that lateral loads are not applied to the clamp arm.
- Angle tolerance of the arm during unclamping:
Bore size [mm] Arm angle [°] 15 30 45 60 75 90 105 120 135 50 0/-3 0/-4 0/-5 0/-5 0/-5 0/-5 0/-5 0/-6 0/-9 63 1/-3 0/-4 0/-5 0/-5 0/-5 0/-5 0/-5 0/-6 0/-9 - Do not disassemble the power clamp cylinder. It is a sealed structure. Disassembly, except for replacing parts, may cause performance deterioration.
- Proximity switch output: The switch output signal is output near the clamping and unclamping ends. The clamping side output does not indicate the status where the cylinder is locked by the toggle mechanism.
- Lubricating the toggle mechanism: The toggle mechanism is lubricated for life and requires no further lubrication.
Power clamp cylinder mounting and setup procedure
Example 1: When using clamping force only (equipped with a workpiece receptacle)
CKZ5N type / CKZ5T type:
Diagram Description: Shows the CKZ5N and CKZ5T type cylinders with components labeled: Cylinder, Clamp arm, Shim, Clamping port, Unclamping port, Arm side block, Workpiece receptacle side block.
Procedure:
- A) Set the workpiece: Place the workpiece, supply air to the clamping port (without the arm side block), and operate the clamp arm to its end.
- B) Install a block on the arm side: In state A, attach the workpiece and the arm side block. Adjust the shim so there is approximately 0 mm space. Theoretically, no clamping force is applied at this stage.
- C) Make block contact adjustments (arm side): To generate clamping force, insert an additional shim. The shim thickness depends on arm length and operating pressure (refer to pages 8-10). Note that graphs are guides, with about 10% tolerance in the cylinder body.
- D) Exhaust air: While in the clamped state, exhaust the air and confirm the clamp arm does not open.
Example 2: When using a hard stop (not equipped with a workpiece receptacle)
CKZ5N type / CKZ5T type:
Diagram Description: Shows the CKZ5N and CKZ5T type cylinders with components labeled: Cylinder, Clamp arm, Shim (shim1, shim2), Upper hard stop, Hard stop, Arm side block, Clamping port, Unclamping port, Distance to hard stop.
Procedure:
- A) Set the hard stop: Supply air to the clamping port without installing the upper hard stop, and operate the clamp arm to its end.
- B) Install the upper hard stop: In state A, attach the upper hard stop and adjust shim ① so there is approximately 0 mm space between the upper hard stop and the hard stop. Theoretically, no clamping force is applied to the hard stop.
- C) Make upper hard stop contact adjustments: To generate clamping force, insert an additional shim. The shim thickness depends on the distance to the hard stop and operating pressure (refer to pages 8-10). Consider the distance to the hard stop as the arm length. Note that graphs are guides, with about 10% tolerance in the cylinder body.
- D) Make block contact adjustments (arm side): In state C, adjust shim ② so the arm side block contacts the workpiece.
- E) Exhaust air: While in the clamped state, exhaust the air and confirm the clamp arm does not open.
Relation between shim thickness and clamping force
Note: Use figures as a guide; there is about 10% tolerance in the clamp cylinder body. Inserting a shim exceeding the peak clamping force position on the graph will prevent lock activation. Insert a shim of appropriate thickness. Arm length is the distance between the clamp arm shaft and the clamping position.
