How to Set Up Wireless Apple CarPlay (Using USB)

Initial Setup Steps

  1. Plug your iPhone into one of the front USB ports (USB A or C port).
  2. On your iPhone, select "ENABLE WIRELESS CARPLAY".

This action is performed on the iPhone's screen, typically after connecting via USB.

  3. On your vehicle's touch screen display, select "YES" on the "Apple CarPlay" pop-up.

A prompt will appear on the car's display asking to enable CarPlay.

  4. On the "Device Registration" pop-up, select "YES" if you want this device to be the favorite device that connects first when the vehicle is started.

This sets your iPhone as the preferred device for automatic connection.

  5. CarPlay should now appear on the vehicle's screen. If it does not, select the HOME button on the vehicle's touch screen and then select the CarPlay app. You can now disconnect the USB cable.

Once connected, the USB cable is no longer needed for wireless CarPlay.

Best Practices and Fixes for Wireless Apple CarPlay

  1. If connecting with a USB cable for the first time, ensure it's a quality Apple-approved cable with no adapters or splitters between your phone and the vehicle USB port.
  2. Ensure your iPhone is fully up to date with the latest iOS version.
  3. Ensure all other apps that work with Apple CarPlay (e.g., Apple Maps, Spotify) are also up to date. Outdated apps may prevent CarPlay from functioning correctly. Apps can be updated via the "App Store" app on your iPhone.
  4. Visit the Apple CarPlay website for the latest information, FAQs, and device compatibility details: apple.com/ios/CarPlay/

Troubleshooting: If CarPlay Isn't Launching

  1. On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  2. If "Content & Privacy Restrictions" are enabled, check the slider status. If the slider is green, it might indicate that certain apps, like CarPlay, are disabled.
  3. Select ALLOWED APPS.
  4. Ensure that the slider for CarPlay is enabled (green). If it is green, CarPlay is allowed.

Troubleshooting: If CarPlay is Still Not Launching

  1. On your iPhone, go to SETTINGS and select BLUETOOTH.
  2. Select the information icon [information icon] (blue 'i') next to your vehicle's name.
  3. Select FORGET THIS DEVICE.
  4. On your iPhone, go to SETTINGS and select GENERAL.
  5. Select CarPlay.
  6. If your vehicle is listed, select it.
  7. Select FORGET THIS CAR.

Device Removal and Reconnection

  1. On your vehicle's touch screen display, select the MANAGE DEVICES icon.
  2. Select DELETE.
  3. Select the iPhone to delete it from the system.
  4. Start the setup process over again, or try connecting via Bluetooth to initiate the wireless CarPlay connection.
