Ryobi RY31EP26 Telescoping Pole Operator's Manual
DANGER
To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read and understand this operator's manual as well as the operator's manual for their pressure washer before using this product. Failure to follow all warnings and precautions may result in death, serious personal injury, or property damage.
Important Safety Warnings
- Keep at least 50 feet (15.2 m) away from power lines. Do not touch or aim spray at electrical wiring of any kind.
- Do not extend or retract the telescoping pole or change nozzles or accessories while spraying or while the wand is under pressure. Turn off the pressure washer, shut off the water supply, point the nozzle in a safe direction, and pull the trigger to release water pressure before making any changes.
- Do not use the telescoping pole while on a ladder or scaffolding.
- When using the telescoping pole at any position less than fully extended, ensure the high pressure hose is routed to avoid being stepped on, tripped over, or subjected to damage or stress. Keep the hose clear of the working area.
- Do not exceed the maximum rated pressure, volume, or temperature listed in the product specifications.
- Do not remove or alter any warning labels included on the telescoping pole.
- Before beginning operation, ensure the work area is clear of obstructions or hazards.
- Maintain proper balance and control of the telescoping pole at all times.
- To minimize the risk of kickback, grip the telescoping pole firmly with both hands. A firm grip combined with a stiff arm will help maintain control if kickback occurs.

Assembling the Telescoping Pole and Brush Accessory
Refer to Figures 1-3.
To assemble the telescoping pole:
- ? NOTE: For easier assembly, lay each pole section on the ground before beginning. Take care to avoid kinking the hose during assembly.
- Open the lock levers on each section of the telescoping pole.
- Place the center sections of the telescoping pole into the opening on the trigger handle section, starting with the largest diameter piece and ending with the smallest diameter piece.
- Close the lock lever on each section once installed.
Figure 1: Illustration showing the components of the telescoping pole, including separate sections, lock levers, and the trigger handle.
Continued Assembly Steps:
- Feed the hose from the brush accessory mount section down through the middle of the assembled pole and trigger handle sections so that it exits from the base of the trigger handle, as shown in Figure 2.
- Remove the U-clip from the plastic bag attached to the trigger handle.
- Insert the hose fitting into the water outlet and install the U-clip to secure the hose in place. Ensure the U-clip is fully seated.
- ? NOTE: If necessary, use a hammer to lightly tap the U-clip to ensure it is fully seated.
Figure 2: Diagram illustrating how to feed the hose from the brush accessory mount through the pole sections and secure it with a U-clip at the water outlet.
To install the brush accessory:
- Ensure the lock nut is fully installed on the threaded end of the brush accessory mount.
- Open the lock lever on the brush accessory mount, slide it away from the trigger handle as far as possible, then close the lock lever to secure, as shown in Figure 3.
- Align the hole on the brush with the threaded end of the brush accessory mount and rotate the brush clockwise to install. Continue to turn the brush until it is fully installed and at the desired angle.
- Turn the lock nut counterclockwise until it stops to secure the brush in place.
- ? NOTE: Other accessories may be available that can be used with this telescoping pole by fitting on either the locking tab or the threaded end. Follow all manufacturer's instructions for the accessory being installed. The lock nut has a flat side and a tapered side; orient it to best fit the accessory.
- ? NOTE: If using the extension pole without the brush, open the brush accessory mount's lock lever, slide it towards the trigger handle, and close the lock lever to secure. This protects the threads during operation.

Connecting the Shoulder Strap
Refer to Figure 4.
The telescoping pole includes an adjustable shoulder strap for user comfort and ease of operation. Install and adjust the strap to a comfortable position before operating.
To install:
- Place the shoulder strap over your shoulder.
- Clip the buckle of the shoulder strap onto the clip bracket as shown.
To adjust:
- To change the clip bracket position, loosen the knob, slide the bracket up or down the pole as desired, and re-tighten the knob securely.
- To tighten the shoulder strap, pull down on the loose end of the strap.

Using the Telescoping Pole
Refer to Figures 5-6.
General Warnings:
- ❗ WARNING: To reduce the risk of electrocution, serious personal injury, or property damage, spray the pressure stream in a safe direction away from electrical devices and bystanders. Ensure all accessories are properly connected before starting any cleaning project. This pole fits most pressure washers; ensure compatibility and proper fit. Wear eye protection compliant with Z87.1. Risk of fluid injection: do not point at people, pets, electrical devices, or the unit itself. Turn off the pressure washer before changing or adjusting accessories. For cold water use only. For outdoor use only; store indoors. Save these instructions and refer to them frequently.
Pivoting Nozzles
- ❗ WARNING: Do not use pivoting nozzles with the telescoping pole. Pivoting nozzles can increase the risk of kickback and may cause serious personal injury.
Trigger Handle Lock
The trigger handle has a lock button to prevent accidental use. To lock, slide the lock toward the trigger until the lock symbol is visible. To unlock, slide the lock away from the trigger until the unlock symbol is visible.
- ? NOTE: Always engage the trigger lock before moving or adjusting the telescoping pole.
Connecting to Pressure Washer
Connect the high pressure hose of your pressure washer to the inlet coupler on the telescoping pole.
- ? NOTE: The inlet coupler is designed for a threaded connector on your pressure washer's high pressure hose. If your hose has a quick connect coupler, install the provided adapter before connecting.
Figure 5: Visual comparison of two types of pressure washer hose connections: one with a threaded coupler and one with a quick connect coupler, showing the use of an adapter for the latter.
Adjusting Length
The telescoping pole can be used retracted, extended, or at any point in between. To adjust the length, open the lock lever, move the pole to the desired length, and close the lock lever to secure. If lock levers become difficult to close or too loose, refer to the 'Adjusting the Lock Levers' section.
- ? NOTE: Never fully extend the poles. Do not extend beyond the marked lines. This ensures approximately 4 inches of pole remains inside the next section for stability.
Initial Use and Kickback
Before starting a project, move away from the work area, extend the pole to 50% of its maximum length, and depress the trigger to release a water stream to gauge its performance.
The telescoping pole may kickback when the trigger is released or pressure is lost. Before releasing the trigger, move the nozzle at least 10 feet away from the cleaning surface and ensure you have stable footing.
Figure 6: Depicts a person using the telescoping pole to clean the exterior of a house, demonstrating its extended reach.
Adjusting the Lock Levers
Refer to Figure 7.
Lock levers should require some resistance to lock securely. They should hold the pole firmly when locked and allow free movement when unlocked. Adjustment may be needed over time.
- Place the lever in the unlocked position.
- Using a Phillips screwdriver (not included), turn the adjusting screw clockwise to tighten the lock lever or counterclockwise to loosen it.
- Place the lever in the locked position and verify it securely locks the extension pole.
Figure 7: Close-up illustration of the lock lever adjustment mechanism, showing a Phillips screwdriver being used to turn an adjusting screw.
Storage
Disassembly is not required for storage. For compact storage, open the lock levers and collapse the pole sections into each other. Close each lock lever to secure.
- ? NOTE: Avoid kinking the hose during storage to extend product life.
