This document provides essential installation procedures for the Thermon PCA-COM Power Connection and End Termination Kit. It is designed for use with Thermon's FLX and HSX heat tracing systems, covering applications such as power connections, in-line splices, T-splices, and end terminations.
Key Information
Receiving, Storing, and Handling
Proper handling is crucial. Inspect materials upon arrival for any shipping damage and report it to the carrier. Verify all parts against the packing list and store them in a dry location.
Installation Precautions
To ensure safety and optimal performance, adhere to the following:
- Utilize ground-fault protection for branch circuits supplying electric heat tracing, as required by the NEC and CEC.
- Ensure all installations comply with Thermon requirements and relevant national/local electrical codes.
- Always de-energize power sources before opening enclosures.
- Keep heat tracing ends and kit components dry throughout the installation process.
- Component approvals are based on the use of Thermon-specified parts.
Installation Steps Overview
The procedures detail the step-by-step process for preparing the heat tracing cable, including:
- Inserting the heater into the expediter assembly, grommet, and cap.
- Securing the expediter to the pipe using provided tape.
- Carefully removing the cable's overjacket and primary insulation, taking care not to cut the metallic braid or bus wires.
- Preparing the braid and bus wires for connection.
- Applying RTV sealant and installing the appropriate termination boot or end cap.
- Mounting the junction box and making electrical connections according to typical wiring diagrams.
Specific instructions are provided for power connection boot termination and end cap termination, along with diagrams illustrating typical wiring for single and multiple trace heater configurations.
