Employer's Responsibilities
Employers must enforce compliance with safety warnings and all other instructions accompanying the tool. This manual should be available for all users. For personal safety and proper operation, users must read and understand all instructions carefully.
Safety Warnings
General Warnings
- Warning! Read and understand tool labels and manual. Failure to follow warnings could result in DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY.
- Always wear ANSI Z87.1 safety glasses with permanently attached side shields. Use a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection as appropriate for the conditions. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use the tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention can result in serious personal injury.
- Never use the tool in an explosive atmosphere or in the presence of combustible materials like flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
- Never use oxygen, carbon dioxide, or any other bottled gas as a power source for this tool, as it can explode and cause serious injury.
- Always remove your finger from the trigger when not driving fasteners. Never carry the tool with your finger on or under the trigger. The tool can eject a fastener if the safety element is bumped.
- Always assume the tool contains fasteners. Do not engage in horseplay. Respect the tool as a working implement.
- Keep the tool pointed away from yourself and others. Connect air to the tool.
- Operate tools at the lowest pressure needed for the application to reduce noise, part wear, and energy use.
Safe Operation
- Drive fasteners into the work surface only. Never drive into materials too hard to penetrate.
- Do not drive fasteners on top of other fasteners or with the tool at too steep an angle, as fasteners can ricochet and cause injury.
- Be aware of tool recoil after driving a fastener. If the safety element re-contacts the work surface unintentionally after recoil, an unwanted fastener will be driven. Allow the tool to recoil completely off the work surface to avoid this. Do not push the safety element onto the work surface until a second fastener is desired.
- Do not drive fasteners close to the edge of the work surface, as the workpiece may split and the fastener could fly free or ricochet and cause injury.
- The tool may eject a fastener when connected to air supply. Always remove all fasteners from the tool before connecting air.
Tool Condition and Air Supply
- Never use a tool that leaks air or needs repair.
- Do not use the tool without the danger label. If the label is missing, damaged, or unreadable, contact your SENCO representative for a replacement.
- Ensure all screws and caps are securely tightened. Perform daily inspections for free movement of the safety element and trigger. Never use the tool if parts are missing or damaged.
- Ensure the tool and air supply hose have a coupling that removes all pressure from the tool when disconnected.
- Do not load fasteners with the trigger or safety element depressed.
- Use only clean, dry, regulated compressed air at the recommended pressure.
- Do not connect tools to air pressure exceeding 200 psig (13.7 bar).
- Air compressors must comply with ANSI/ASME B19.1-1995 ("Safety Standard For Air Compressor Systems").
- Air hoses must have a minimum working pressure rating of 150 psig (10.3 bar) or 150% of the maximum system pressure, whichever is higher.
Tool Use
Loading the Tool
- Connect air supply.
- Insert a strip of nails into the rear of the magazine.
- Use only genuine SENCO fasteners.
- Do not load with the trigger or safety element depressed.
- Pull the feeder shoe back.
Diagram Description: Steps for loading the nailer, showing air connection, magazine loading, and feeder shoe operation.
Contact-Actuation Trigger
This trigger allows nails to be driven in two ways:
Way 1:
- Press the workpiece contact (safety element) against the work surface.
- Pull the trigger to drive the fastener.
This mode is preferred for high production and rapid fastener placement.
Way 2:
- Pull the trigger.
- Depress the workpiece contact element against the work surface to drive a fastener. Each press drives a fastener.
Diagram Description: Illustrations showing the two methods of using the Contact-Actuation trigger.
Sequential Actuation Trigger
With this trigger, fasteners can only be driven one way:
- Press the workpiece contact (safety element) against the work surface.
- Pull the trigger.
This mode is useful for precise fastener placement.
Diagram Description: Illustrations showing the method of using the Sequential Actuation trigger.
Tool Lockout Feature
The tool has a lockout feature to prevent activation under certain conditions:
- Low Nail Count: When approximately five nails remain, the workpiece contact (safety element) locks in the undepressed position until more nails are loaded. (Note: Due to nail size variations, the tool may lock out but still drive a nail if the contact is depressed again.)
- Magazine Pulled Back: When the magazine is pulled back, the workpiece contact locks until the magazine is moved forward and secured.
Diagram Description: Illustrations showing the tool's lockout feature when the nail count is low and when the magazine is retracted.
Adjusting Fastener Depth
To adjust the depth:
- Disconnect the air supply.
- Using your thumb or index finger, rotate the depth control wheel to adjust the workpiece contact (safety element) to the desired depth.
Diagram Description: Illustration showing the rotation of the depth control wheel.
Clearing a Jammed Fastener
- Disconnect air supply.
- Release the feeder shoe and slide it forward.
- Remove fasteners from the tool.
- Loosen the locking knob at the rear of the tool by hand and pull the magazine back.
- Clear the jammed fastener from the guide body.
- Slide the magazine back into position and tighten the locking knob.
- Connect air supply and replace fasteners.
- Pull the feeder shoe back.
Diagram Description: Step-by-step illustrations for clearing a jammed fastener, including releasing the feeder shoe, removing fasteners, and adjusting the magazine.
Tool Conversion
The tool can be converted for non-toenail (flat surface) applications by adding the no-mar pad.
Diagram Description: Illustration showing the attachment of a no-mar pad.
Air Deflector Adjustment
The deflector can be rotated to change the direction of the exhaust air:
- Disconnect the air supply.
- Loosen the cap screw with a hex wrench.
- Rotate the deflector to the desired direction.
- Tighten the cap screw.
Diagram Description: Illustration showing the rotation of the air deflector.
Maintenance
General Maintenance
- Repairs other than those described should be performed only by trained, qualified personnel. Contact SENCO for information.
- Read the "Safety Warnings" section before maintaining the tool.
- Keep all screws tight. Loose screws can lead to unsafe operation and parts breakage.
- With the tool disconnected, perform daily inspections to ensure free movement of the safety element and trigger. Do not use the tool if the safety element or trigger sticks or binds.
Lubrication
- Apply SENCO pneumatic oil (5 to 10 drops) into the air inlet twice daily, depending on usage frequency. Other oils may damage O-rings and other tool parts.
Cleaning
- Wipe the tool clean daily and inspect for wear.
- Use non-flammable cleaning solutions only if necessary. DO NOT SOAK. Caution: Such solutions may damage O-rings and other tool parts.
Diagram Description: Illustrations related to maintenance, including disconnecting air, checking safety/trigger, oiling the air inlet, and cleaning the tool.
