Unique Features

BIOS Update Utilities

GIGABYTE motherboards offer two BIOS update tools: Q-Flash™ and @BIOS™. These tools allow for easy BIOS updates without needing to enter MS-DOS mode. The motherboard also features DualBIOS™ and supports Q-Flash Plus for enhanced protection.

What is DualBIOS™?

DualBIOS™ motherboards have a main BIOS and a backup BIOS. If the main BIOS is corrupted, the backup BIOS takes over to ensure normal operation. The backup BIOS cannot be updated manually.

What is Q-Flash Plus?

Q-Flash Plus is a feature that automatically recovers BIOS data from a USB flash drive connected to a specific USB port if both the main and backup BIOS fail during system boot.

What is Q-Flash™?

Q-Flash allows BIOS updates without entering operating systems like MS-DOS or Windows. It is embedded in the BIOS for a simplified flashing process.

What is @BIOS™?

@BIOS enables BIOS updates within the Windows environment. It downloads the latest BIOS file from the nearest @BIOS server and updates the BIOS.

1-1 Updating the BIOS with the Q-Flash Utility

A. Before You Begin

  1. Download the latest compressed BIOS update file for your motherboard model from GIGABYTE's website.
  2. Extract the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g., X299AORUSGaming7.F1) to a USB flash drive or hard drive formatted with FAT32/16/12 file system.
  3. Restart the system. During POST, press the <End> key to enter Q-Flash. Alternatively, you can access Q-Flash by pressing the <End> key during POST or by selecting the Q-Flash icon (or pressing <F8>) in BIOS Setup. If the BIOS file is on a hard drive in RAID/AHCI mode or attached to an independent SATA controller, use the <End> key during POST.

Caution: BIOS flashing is risky; proceed with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction.

B. Updating the BIOS

In the Q-Flash main menu, use the keyboard or mouse to select items. Choose the location where the BIOS file is saved.

Step 1: Insert the USB flash drive with the BIOS file into the computer. Select 'Update BIOS' on the Q-Flash screen.

Step 2: The system will show the BIOS file being read from the USB flash drive. Select 'Fast' or 'Intact' to begin the update. Do not turn off or restart the system during the update. Do not remove the USB flash drive or hard drive during the update.

Step 3: The system will restart after the update is complete.

Step 4: During POST, press <Delete> to enter BIOS Setup. On the 'Save & Exit' screen, select 'Load Optimized Defaults' and press <Enter>. Reloading BIOS defaults is recommended as the system re-detects all peripheral devices after a BIOS update.

Step 5: Select 'Save & Exit Setup' and press <Enter>. Then select 'Yes' to save settings to CMOS and exit BIOS Setup.

Note: The 'Save BIOS' option allows you to save the current BIOS file. Q-Flash supports USB flash drives or hard drives using FAT32/16/12 file systems. If the BIOS update file is on a hard drive in RAID/AHCI mode or attached to an independent SATA controller, use the <End> key during POST to access Q-Flash.

1-2 Updating the BIOS with the @BIOS Utility

A. Before You Begin

  1. In Windows, close all applications and TSR programs to prevent unexpected failures during BIOS updates.
  2. If updating via the Internet, ensure a stable internet connection and do not interrupt it (avoid power loss or switching off the internet). Failure to do so may corrupt the BIOS or make the system unable to start.
  3. GIGABYTE's warranty does not cover BIOS damage or system failure from inadequate BIOS flashing.

B. Using @BIOS

  1. Update the BIOS Using the Internet Update Function: Click 'Update from Server', select the closest @BIOS server site, download the matching BIOS file, and follow on-screen instructions. If the file is not available, download it from GIGABYTE's website and follow the instructions for updating without the internet.
  2. Update the BIOS without Using the Internet Update Function: Click 'Update from File', select the saved BIOS update file, and follow on-screen instructions.
  3. Save the Current BIOS File: Click 'Save to File' to save the current BIOS file.
  4. Change the Boot-up Logo: Click 'Upload new image' in Face-Wizard to change the boot-up logo. 'Backup current image' saves the current boot-up logo. Supported image formats include JPG, BMP, and GIF.

C. After Updating the BIOS

Restart your system after updating the BIOS. Ensure the BIOS file matches your motherboard model, as an incorrect file can prevent booting. Do not turn off the system or remove power during the update process to avoid BIOS corruption.

1-3 Using Q-Flash Plus

A. Before You Begin

  1. Download the latest compressed BIOS update file for your motherboard model from GIGABYTE's website.
  2. Uncompress the downloaded BIOS file, save it to a USB flash drive, and rename it to GIGABYTE.bin. The USB flash drive must be FAT32/16 and USB 2.0.
  3. Insert the USB flash drive into the white USB port on the back panel.

B. Using Q-Flash Plus

If both main and backup BIOS fail during system boot, wait 15-20 seconds. The system will automatically search for and match the BIOS file on the USB flash drive. The FBIOS_LED will flash when BIOS matching and flashing activities start. Wait 2-3 minutes for the FBIOS_LED to stop flashing, indicating the main BIOS flashing is complete. The system will then reboot automatically to update the backup BIOS. After completion, it will reboot again and boot from the main BIOS for normal operation.
