BIOS Update Utilities

GIGABYTE motherboards offer two BIOS update tools: Q-Flash™ and Q-Flash Plus. These tools allow BIOS updates without entering MS-DOS mode. Q-Flash Plus provides enhanced protection for system safety and stability.

What is Q-Flash Plus?

Q-Flash Plus enables BIOS updates when the system is powered off (S5 shutdown state). Save the latest BIOS to a USB drive, plug it into the dedicated port, and press the Q-Flash Plus button to flash the BIOS automatically.

What is Q-Flash™?

Q-Flash is embedded within the BIOS, allowing system BIOS updates without needing to boot into MS-DOS or Windows, simplifying the flashing process.

2-1 Updating the BIOS with the Q-Flash Utility

A. Before You Begin:

  1. Download the latest compressed BIOS update file for your motherboard model from GIGABYTE's website.
  2. Uncompress the file and save the new BIOS file (e.g., X670EAORUSMASTER.F1) to a FAT32/16 formatted USB flash drive or hard drive.
  3. Restart the system. During POST, press the 'End' key to enter Q-Flash. Alternatively, access Q-Flash from BIOS Setup by pressing the 'F8' key or clicking the Q-Flash icon. If the BIOS file is on a RAID/AHCI mode hard drive or an independent SATA controller, use the 'End' key during POST.

Caution: BIOS flashing is risky. Inadequate flashing can lead to system malfunction.

B. Updating the BIOS:

  1. Insert the USB flash drive with the BIOS file into the computer. In Q-Flash, select 'Update BIOS'.
  2. Select the BIOS update file. Ensure it matches your motherboard model.

The system will read the BIOS file and display the update process. The system will automatically shut down and restart to flash the BIOS with Q-Flash.

Important: Do not turn off or restart the system during the BIOS reading or updating process. Do not remove the USB flash drive or hard drive during the update.

Step 3: The system restarts after the update is complete.

Step 4: During POST, press 'Delete' to enter BIOS Setup. Navigate to the 'Save & Exit' screen, select 'Load Optimized Defaults', and press 'Enter'. This is recommended after a BIOS update to allow the system to re-detect peripherals.

Step 5: Select 'Save & Exit Setup', press 'Enter', and then select 'Yes' to save settings and exit BIOS Setup. The procedure is complete upon system restart.

2-2 Using Q-Flash Plus

A. Before You Begin:

  1. Download the latest compressed BIOS update file for your motherboard model from GIGABYTE's website.
  2. Uncompress the file, save it to a FAT32/16/12 formatted USB flash drive, and rename it to 'GIGABYTE.bin'.
  3. Connect power cables to the 12V power connector and the main power connector.
  4. Turn on the power supply before connecting the USB flash drive to the Q-Flash Plus port on the back panel.

B. Using Q-Flash Plus:

Press the Q-Flash Plus button. The system will automatically search for and match the BIOS file on the USB flash drive connected to the Q-Flash Plus port. The QFLED or Q-Flash Plus button will flash during the process. Wait 6-8 minutes for the LEDs to stop flashing, indicating completion.

Manual Update: Ensure the system is off (S5 shutdown state). If your motherboard has a BIOS switch and SB switch, reset them to their default settings.

DualBIOS™: On motherboards with DualBIOS™, the backup BIOS will continue to update after the main BIOS has been flashed and the system restarts. The system will then reboot again from the main BIOS.
