Newline Q Series Quick Start Guide

Q Series Panel Front Buttons
The Q Series display features several buttons on its front panel for easy access to common functions.
- Power Button: Turns the display on/off.
- Volume Button: Adjusts the sound volume higher or lower.
- Brightness Button: Adjusts the brightness of the screen higher or lower.
- Home Button: Takes you to the Home Screen.
- Quick Settings Button: Brings up the quick settings menu.
Turning On the Display
- Press the Power button located on the bottom right side of the display.
- The button will change color from red to blue once the display is powered on.
The Home Screen Shortcuts
The Home Screen provides quick access to various functions and applications.
- OPS: Accesses the internal PC (OPS), if one is connected.
- Browser: Opens a web browser for internet access. (?)
- Whiteboard: Opens the embedded Whiteboard application. (✍️)
- File Viewer: Launches the Newline File Commander to access and preview files from local and cloud storage systems.
- Shortcuts Menu: A customizable menu for quick access to your preferred apps.
- Add: Allows customization and addition of icons to the Home Page for favorite apps and sources. (➕)
- Apps: Displays a list of all available applications. (?)
- Screen Sharing: Opens the Newline Cast wireless screen sharing application.
- End Session: Closes the current session and returns to the Start Screen.
- Settings: Allows adjustment of the panel's settings. (⚙️)
- Internet Settings: Opens the Ethernet settings menu.
- Source Preview: Shows a preview of connected sources. Tapping a source preview navigates to that source.
Adding Home Screen Shortcuts
Customize your Home Screen by adding frequently used apps:
- On the Home Screen, click the + Add button within the Shortcuts menu. (➕)
- In the pop-up menu, select Apps on the right side.
- Tap to choose the apps you wish to add. A blue check mark (✔️) will appear on selected apps.
- Click the X in the upper right corner to exit. You can add up to five apps.
The Quick Settings Toolbar
The Quick Access Toolbar is accessible by tapping the Quick Settings button on the panel's front or by swiping up with two fingers from the bottom of the touch display.
- Volume Slider: Adjusts sound volume.
- Brightness Slider: Adjusts screen brightness.
- Freeze: Freezes all display activity. Tap anywhere to unfreeze.
- Mute: Mutes panel sound. Tap again to unmute. (?)
- Wi-Fi: Toggles Wi-Fi on/off. (?)
- Classroom Tools: Opens the Classroom Tools menu.
- Sound Only: Turns off the panel display while keeping sound active. Tap anywhere to turn the display back on.
- Toolbar: Hides or shows the Quick Access Toolbar.
- Home Shortcut: Navigates to the main Home Screen.
- Sources: Opens the Source Preview Screen.
- Settings: Accesses the panel settings menu. (⚙️)
- Split Screen: Enables using two apps simultaneously in Split Screen mode.
- Palm Erase: Select to erase content using your palm.
- Palm Rejection: Prevents accidental input from palm contact.
- Screen Lock: Locks the screen. (?)
- Log Out: Logs out the current user.
The Quick Access Toolbar
The Quick Access Toolbar can be accessed by tapping the white circle on either side of the screen. Tap the button again to minimize the toolbar.
- Home Shortcut: Navigates to the main Home Screen.
- Whiteboard Shortcut: Opens the whiteboarding screen for drawing and note-taking. (✍️)
- Apps Shortcut: Displays a list of all available applications on the panel. (?)
- Running Apps Shortcut: Shows all currently active applications.
- OPS/Sources Shortcut: Accesses the on-board computer (OPS). Tap and hold to reveal additional icons for switching between sources.
- Annotation Shortcut: Displays whiteboarding options over the current screen content. Tap again to save a screenshot.
- Quick Access Menu Button: Opens the Quick Access Menu. Tap again to minimize it.
- Source Preview Shortcut: Displays connected sources.
- Back Shortcut: Returns to the previous screen or app, or exits the current app. (↩️)
Switching Sources
To access any source connected to the display:
- Connected devices will appear highlighted in white within the Source Preview window on the Home Screen.
- Tap the icon of the desired source to switch to it.
- The Source Preview window displays a preview of the connected device's current screen.
- Tap the source icon or its preview window a second time to navigate to that source.
- Connecting a device to the front ports will automatically display it on the screen.
Accessing the Built-In OPS Computer
- Turn on the display.
- Touch the "Tap to Start" message on the initial screen.
- Tap the OPS button on the Home Screen.
- You will now be viewing and interacting with the built-in OPS Computer.
Bonus Tips: Quickly navigate to different sources using the floating menu icons:
- Quick Access to the OPS (PC icon)
- Quick Access to the Sources Page (Arrow icon)
The Front Ports
The front panel features five ports on the bottom left: USB Touch, HDMI, USB 3.0, USB Type-C, and mic-in.
Switching Sources
Connecting a Computer with USB-C
- You will need a USB Type-C cable to connect your computer.
- Plug one end of the USB-C cable into the front USB-C port. (?)
- Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to the USB-C port on your computer.
- Once connected, the corresponding port should illuminate white in the Source Preview on the Home Screen.
Connecting a Computer with USB & HDMI
- You will need an HDMI cable and a USB cable to connect your computer.
- Plug one end of the HDMI cable into an HDMI port. (?)
- Plug one end of the USB cable into the matching USB port. (?)
- Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port on your computer.
- Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB port on your computer.
- Once both cables are connected to the display and your computer, the corresponding port should turn white in the Source Preview on the Home Screen.
Installing the Wi-Fi Module
- Unscrew the two screws securing the Wi-Fi Module port's shielding cover and remove the cover.
- Insert the Wi-Fi Module into the rear panel port until it is firmly seated, then use the two screws to secure it.
Caution: The Wi-Fi Module does not support hot plugging. Ensure the display is powered off before inserting or removing the Wi-Fi Module to prevent damage to the display or module. (⚠️)
Changing the Settings
- On the Home Screen, select the settings icon (⚙️) in the upper right corner.
- Within the Settings menu, you can adjust various options such as Power settings, Internet Network settings, and Date & Time.
Changing Panel Themes
- Navigate to Display & Theme within the Settings menu.
- Select Theme from the available options.
- Choose your desired theme for the panel's Home Screen.
Launching Updates
Firmware and app updates are delivered automatically "over the air." A notification will appear on the screen when an update is ready for download.
Whiteboard Tools
The whiteboard offers a comprehensive set of tools for collaboration and annotation:
- More options & tools: Access additional tools and settings. [more-options-icon]
- QR Code for saving & sharing whiteboard: Generate a QR code for easy saving and sharing. ?
- Highlighter tool: Mark up content with a highlighter. [highlighter-icon]
- Pen tool: Draw or write directly on the screen. [pen-icon]
- Insert shape: Add various geometric shapes. [shape-icon]
- Lasso to select items: Select multiple objects for manipulation. [lasso-icon]
- Add whiteboard page: Create new pages for your notes. [add-page-icon]
- Whiteboard page navigation: Move between different whiteboard pages. [navigation-icon]
- Google account sign-in: Sign in to your Google account. [google-icon]
- Eraser: Remove content from the whiteboard. [eraser-icon]
- Clear whiteboard: Erase the entire whiteboard content. [clear-icon]
- Undo: Revert the last action. ↩️
- Redo: Reapply the last undone action. ↪️
- Whiteboard settings: Configure whiteboard preferences. [settings-icon]
- Switch between Screen Annotation Mode: Toggle annotation modes. [annotation-mode-icon]
Accessing the Newline App Store
- On the Home Screen, tap the Apps button. (?)
- In the Apps Menu, tap Newline App Store to launch it.
- Browse and select the app you wish to download from the App Store.
- On the app's detail screen, tap Install.
- Once installed, the app will be available in the Apps menu on the Home Screen.
Using Newline Cast
Connecting to Newline Cast Using the DisplayNote Windows App
- Open the Newline Cast app on your display.
- Download the DisplayNote Windows App from displaynote.com/join on your computer.
- Launch the DisplayNote app on your laptop.
- Enter the Session ID displayed on your screen and your name.
- Select "Join" after entering both the Session ID and your name.
Connecting to Newline Cast from a Web Browser
- Open the Newline Cast app on your display.
- Visit www.displaynote.com/join on your laptop and select "Connect via web."
- Enter the Session ID displayed on your screen and your name.
- Select "Join" after entering both the Session ID and your name.
- When prompted, choose whether to share your entire screen or a specific application window.
- Click "Share."
Using Newline Broadcast
Share your Panel Screen to Student Devices
- Turn on the display.
- Open the Broadcast application and press the "Start broadcast" button to begin a session.
- Share the provided public share link with your viewers.
- Begin your presentation.
- To end the broadcast, press the Stop Broadcast button.
Viewing a Broadcast
- Click the link provided by the broadcast host, or go to broadcast.online, enter the 6-digit Broadcast ID, and press Connect.
- Users can utilize the “Enlarge” option to view broadcast information more clearly, especially from a distance.
- To leave a broadcast, press the Stop button at any time.
