Step 1: Connection Application
The diagram illustrates how to connect various external devices to the STUDIO L & XL. Connections shown include: Smartphone, Headphones (HPS3000), Laptop, Talk back Microphone (XM8500), Footswitch, Headphone Amplifier (HA8000 V2), Keyboard (Poly D), Active Studio Monitors (B2031A), Powered Monitor Speakers (MS40), 2 Track tape machine, and Microphone (B-1).
Step 2: Controls
Diagrams of the front and rear panels of the STUDIO L and STUDIO XL models are provided, with numbered controls corresponding to the descriptions below.
Front Panel Controls:
- 1. Input 1 Gain: Controls the gain applied to the input signal for Input 1.
- 2. Input 2 Gain: Controls the gain applied to the input signal for Input 2.
- 3. 48V: Engages 48V phantom power for Inputs 1 and 2.
- 4. STEREO: Switches Inputs 1 and 2 between mono and stereo modes.
- 5. INPUT 1/2 SELECT: Selects Input 1/2 as the monitoring source.
- 6. TRIM 3/4: ±12 dB level control for Inputs 3/4.
- 7. TRIM 5/6: ±12 dB level control for Inputs 5/6.
- 8. INPUT 3/4 SELECT: Selects Input 3/4 as the monitoring source.
- 9. INPUT 5/6 SELECT: Selects Input 5/6 as the monitoring source (STUDIO XL only).
- 10. MIC (Talkback): Used for communication with the 2-Track (STUDIO XL only) or Talkback output.
- 11. USB SELECT: Selects USB 1/2 as the monitoring source.
- 12. METER: Displays the current level of the selected source.
- 13. VOLUME CONTROL: Controls the level sent to the monitoring output.
- 14. MONITOR A TRIM: Adjusts the output level for Monitor A between -12 dB and 0 dB.
- 15. MONITOR A SELECT: Activates or deactivates the speakers connected to Monitor A.
- 16. MONITOR B TRIM: Adjusts the output level for Monitor B between -12 dB and 0 dB.
- 17. MONITOR B SELECT: Activates or deactivates the speakers connected to Monitor B.
- 18. MONITOR C TRIM: Adjusts the output level for Monitor C between -12 dB and 0 dB (STUDIO XL only).
- 19. MONITOR C SELECT: Activates or deactivates the speakers connected to Monitor C (STUDIO XL only).
- 20. CUE SOURCE: Selects the auxiliary mix input, 2-Track source, or USB 3/4 for the cue bus (STUDIO XL only).
- 21. STUDIO OUT CONTROL: Sets the output level for the Studio Out (STUDIO XL only).
- 22. STUDIO OUT ON: Activates or deactivates the Studio Out (STUDIO XL only).
- 23. INPUTS/CUE: Mixes input and cue bus signals.
- 24. PHONES 1 LEVEL: Sets the output level for Headphones 1.
- 25. PHONES 1 2TR/CUE: Selects the 2-Track source or Cue bus for Headphones 1 (for Phones 1+2 on STUDIO L, Phones 1 on STUDIO XL).
- 26. PHONES 2 LEVEL: Sets the output level for Headphones 2.
- 27. PHONES 2 2TR/CUE: Selects the 2-Track source or Cue bus for Headphones 2 (STUDIO XL only).
- 28. MONO: Switches stereo signals to mono for the monitor outputs.
- 29. MUTE: Mutes signals sent to the monitor outputs.
- 30. DIM: Reduces the signal to the monitor outputs by 20 dB.
- 31. TALKBACK: Level control adjusts the gain for the talkback microphone.
- 32. POWER/USB: LEDs indicate power status and active USB connection to a computer.
- 33. TO 2-TRACK: Routes the TALKBACK MIC signal to the 2-TRACK output (STUDIO XL only).
- 34. TO CUE: Routes the talkback microphone signal to the cue bus.
- 35. USB: Connects to a computer for use as a 2-in/2-out audio interface (STUDIO L) or 2-in/4-out audio interface (STUDIO XL).
- 36. POWER: Turns the unit on or off.
- 37. REC SRC SEL: Selects the recording source: 2-Track, or Inputs 1/2.
- 38. DC INPUT: Connects to the included power adapter.
- 39. EXT MIC: Input for an external talkback microphone (STUDIO XL only).
- 40. TALKBACK SELECT: Selects internal or external talkback microphone (STUDIO XL only).
- 41. FOOTSW: Input for a standard footswitch to enable/disable talkback (STUDIO XL only).
- 42. MONITOR C: Balanced or unbalanced line level Monitor C output (STUDIO XL only).
- 43. MONITOR B: Balanced or unbalanced line level Monitor B output.
- 44. MONITOR A: Balanced or unbalanced line level Monitor A output.
- 45. STUDIO/PHONES AMP: Balanced or unbalanced line level output (STUDIO XL only).
- 46. 2-TRACK: Balanced or unbalanced line level 2-Track output.
- 47. +4/-10: Switches the 2-Track output between +4 dB and -10 dB.
- 48. CUE IN: Balanced or unbalanced line level auxiliary mix input (STUDIO XL only).
- 49. INPUT 5/6: Balanced or unbalanced line level input.
- 50. +4/-10: Switches STUDIO L Inputs 3/4 or STUDIO XL Inputs 5/6 between +4 dB and -10 dB.
- 51. INPUT 3/4: Balanced or unbalanced line level input.
- 52. INPUT 1/2: Balanced or unbalanced mic or line level input.
- 53. INPUT 3/4 (STUDIO L) or 5/6 (STUDIO XL): 3.5 mm (1/8") stereo line level input.
- 54. HEADPHONE 1: 6.35 mm (1/4") jack.
- 55. HEADPHONE 2: 6.35 mm (1/4") jack.
Step 3: Usage
- Set the POWER switch on the rear panel to OFF (pop out).
- Turn all Volume and TRIM controls fully counter-clockwise.
- Set all SOURCE SELECT, MONITOR SELECT, and routing switches to the popped-out position.
- Connect the included power cord to the input on the rear panel.
- Connect the USB from your computer's DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).
- Connect active monitors or unpowered monitors to the MONITOR OUT jacks A, B, and C (STUDIO XL only).
- Connect a headphone amplifier to the STUDIO/PHONES AMP output jacks on the rear panel (STUDIO XL only).
- Connect the 2-TRACK outputs to an external recording device to capture input signals.
- Visit www.behringer.com to download the latest Windows drivers for the STUDIO series. Mac users do not require drivers. To record into your DAW via USB Inputs 1 & 2, press the REC SRC SEL (Record Source Select) button on the rear panel. The USB can still be used as a playback source without being recorded. To record the combined 2-Track output, set the REC SRC SEL button to 2-TR mode.
- On the STUDIO XL, the CUE source can be set to AUX MIX (with CUE pressed), the selected 2-Track source, or DAW output 3/4 via USB.
- Turn the POWER switch to ON (in).
- Open all external powered speakers, unpowered amplifier, and headphone amplifiers.
- Select the desired monitoring source by pressing buttons A, B, or C on the top panel (STUDIO XL only).
- Play music in your DAW to test and adjust monitoring levels. If necessary, adjust the TRIM controls for the selected monitoring source.
- Slowly increase the VOLUME control. If the volume is lower than expected, adjust the TRIM controls for the selected monitor option (A, B, or C).
- If a headphone amplifier is connected to the STUDIO/PHONES AMP output jacks on the rear panel, set the input level as required. Gradually increase the headphone amplifier's volume to a suitable level.
- Each PHONE jack on the front panel has its own volume control. Connect headphones to any of the headphone jacks and adjust the volume as needed.
- To set the recording level for your DAW or external recording device, select the desired input source on the top panel (deselect any other input sources to avoid potential feedback loops). Connect to the external recording device on the rear panel and use the +4/-10 switch to set the output level.
- The built-in TALKBACK microphone signal can be routed to the CUE bus on STUDIO L and XL Headphones 1/2, or to the 2-Track output (STUDIO XL only). Press the button corresponding to your desired destination and speak into the microphone. Adjust the TALKBACK control to fine-tune the signal.
- To adjust the volume of speakers connected to the STUDIO OUT jacks, press the output button to ON (in) and adjust the STUDIO OUT control on the top panel (STUDIO XL only).
