2. Setup of 48V Phantom Power
The 48V phantom power is required for the NW-700 microphone and is NOT included in the package contents. Connect the phantom power unit between the microphone and the audio interface/mixer using XLR cables.
Diagram Description: A diagram shows a phantom power unit with 'INPUT' and 'OUTPUT' XLR connections, and a power switch. It indicates that 48V Phantom Power is necessary.
3. Installation Procedures
3.1 Installation of Table Mounting Clamp and Scissor Arm Stand
Turn the Desk Clamp Tightener clockwise to securely clamp it to the desk. Ensure the Arm Stand Tightening Knob is loosened (turned counter-clockwise). Insert the base of the Scissor Arm Stand into the Table Mounting Clamp and secure it by turning the Arm Stand Tightening Knob clockwise.
Diagram Description: Illustrates screwing a desk clamp onto a table edge and then inserting the scissor arm stand into the clamp, securing it with a knob.
3.2 Installation of Shock Mount
Squeeze the two tabs together on the microphone shock mount to expand the opening. Slide the microphone into the shock mount and release the tabs to clamp it securely. Adjust the microphone's angle by counter-clockwise loosening the screw on the shock mount bracket, position it, and then tighten the screw again.
Diagram Description: Shows how to open the shock mount by squeezing tabs, insert the microphone, and then tighten a screw to adjust the angle.
3.3 Installation of Pop Screen Filter
Secure the pop screen filter to the arm stand near the end with the microphone. Tighten the pop filter by clockwise turning its rotating knob. Use the gooseneck to position the pop filter comfortably in front of the microphone.
Diagram Description: Depicts attaching a pop filter to an arm stand and adjusting its position with a flexible gooseneck.
4. Recording Setting on Computer
This section explains how to configure recording settings on a computer without an independent sound card and amplifier, using Windows 10 as an example.
Steps:
- Right-click the speaker icon in the system tray.
- Select "Open Volume Mixer" or "Sounds".
- Navigate to the "Recording" tab.
- Select the microphone and click "Properties".
- Under the "Listen" tab, tick "Listen to this device" to enable audio input via the microphone.
- Under the "Levels" tab, adjust the microphone volume as needed.
Diagram Description: Visual representations of the Windows sound settings interface, showing how to select the microphone, enable listening, and adjust levels.
5. How to Position the Microphone
Position the microphone so that audio is being directly applied to one of the indicated flat sides. The microphone is designed to pick up sound effectively from these specific flat sides, not from all directions (360 degrees).
Diagram Description: A diagram highlights the flat sides of the microphone with red markings, indicating the optimal areas for sound capture.
6. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Q: Why is the audio recorded by the microphone so quiet?
- A: This could be due to improper microphone positioning (ensure you speak into the indicated red areas) or a low-quality built-in sound card. Consider using an external sound card or amplifier for better audio tuning.
- Q: Why is there a buzzing or other background noise on my recording?
- A: This is often caused by electronic interference from computer components like fans. Using an external sound card is recommended to reduce or eliminate this noise.
- Q: Why is there a loud noise as soon as the microphone is plugged in?
- A: This is likely audio feedback caused by speakers being too close to the microphone. To eliminate this: 1. Lower speaker volume. 2. Move speakers and microphone further apart. 3. Use headphones (professional studio monitor headphones are recommended).
- Q: Why does this microphone only pick up my voice and not other sounds like instruments?
- A: This microphone is optimized for vocals. To record instruments or multiple sound sources, use a mixer to combine and balance audio inputs.
7. Important Notes
- Reduce background noise for the best recording quality.
- Keep the microphone clean by wiping with a damp cloth. Do not spray liquids directly onto the microphone.
- Avoid tapping or blowing into the microphone; use a normal voice to test it.
- Keep the microphone away from speakers to prevent squealing.
- Record at a distance of 5-10 cm for optimal sound quality.
- Do not pull, drag, or twist the microphone cable to avoid damage.
- Store the microphone in a cool, dry place away from heat sources or strong magnets.
- Speak directly into one of the flat sides for the best audio capture.
