SVBONY SV173 User Manual
Product Overview
This document serves as the user manual for the SVBONY SV173 Rifle Scope, providing essential information for setup, operation, and maintenance.
Diagram of the SVBONY SV173 Rifle Scope
A line drawing illustrates the SVBONY SV173 Rifle Scope. It depicts the main cylindrical body with an objective lens at the front, an eyepiece at the rear, and a central turret housing. The diagram also indicates the placement of adjustment turrets and a side parallax adjustment knob.
Getting Started
1. Eyepiece Focusing
This scope features a "fast focus" system for achieving a sharp reticle image. Hold the scope and look through the eyepiece. If the reticle is not sharp, adjustments are needed. Rotate the ocular bell focus in either direction. If focus improves, continue in that direction. If it worsens, reverse direction.
CAUTION: Ensure the firearm is unloaded. Practice safe firearm handling at all times.
2. Mounting
Mounting requires selecting the correct base and rail dimensions for your rifle. The process involves:
- Separate the upper and lower halves of your ring(s).
- Install the lower half of your ring(s) on the rifle rail.
- Set the scope in the cradle.
- Replace the tops loosely (DO NOT tighten).
- Position the scope as far forward as possible and rotate the elevation turret to be vertical.
- Slowly pull the scope backward until your full Field of View (FOV) is visible. Check that the reticle is aligned vertically and horizontally with the firearm's bore axis.
- Tighten the top halves of your ring(s) mount.
CAUTION: Ensure the firearm is unloaded. Practice safe firearm handling at all times.
3. Pre-Zeroing
Locate an appropriate firing location and set up a target at 50 yards. Use a comfortable gun rest to minimize human error. Ensure the rifle is empty with the breech open.
Rotate the parallax ring to 100 yards.
Push/Pull Locking Turrets: Some models are equipped with push/pull locking turrets. Pull the turret cap away from the scope body to unlock.
For windage adjustment, turn clockwise to move the point of impact left, and counter-clockwise to move it right.
For elevation adjustment, turn clockwise to lower the point of impact, and counter-clockwise to raise it.
CAUTION: Ensure the firearm is unloaded. Practice safe firearm handling at all times.
4. Zeroing
Testing ammunition is crucial, as different ammunitions perform differently. This is a vital step in sighting in any firearm.
- Holding the crosshairs steady on the target, fire one round.
- Repeat two more times to achieve a three-shot group.
- Retrieve your target and triangulate the shots to find the average point of impact (POI). Measure the distance from the POI to the intended aiming point (bullseye).
- The arrows on the turret caps indicate adjustment direction. Turn according to the MOA scale.
- This scope uses 1/4 MOA adjustments, meaning one click moves the bullet 1/4 inch at 100 yards. (At 50 yards, one click moves the bullet 1/8 inch).
After adjusting windage and elevation, fire another 3-shot group. Repeat until satisfied with the results.
Note: Allow the barrel to cool between shot groups to prevent variations in bullet flight due to heating. Swabbing the bore with a dry patch between shots is recommended to reduce buildup. Do not use cleaning fluid or oil on the swab, as this can affect bullet flight.
5. Parallax Adjustment
Parallax occurs when the target image is not precisely focused due to the shooter's eye misalignment with the reticle plane. This is visible as an apparent movement between the crosshairs and the target when the shooter moves their head. Higher magnification makes this more apparent.
To check for parallax, move your eye behind the scope without touching the rifle. If the crosshairs appear to move on the target, parallax is not set for the target's range.
Scopes with an adjustable parallax knob can correct this. The side parallax knob is typically located opposite the windage knob. For this model, parallax is fixed at 100 yards.
If crosshairs move right when your head moves left, the image plane is further away than the crosshairs. To correct, screw the objective bell inward (counter-clockwise) to move the objective closer. Adjusting outward pulls the image plane back.
This scope features push/pull locking turrets. Pull the cap out to adjust windage and elevation, then push in to lock.
6. Illumination Adjustment
This scope has an advanced glass-etched reticle illumination system. A rheostat knob, located in the turret housing opposite the windage, controls the illumination level. Some models offer red/green/blue illumination.
Lower numbers indicate dimmer settings. The "0" position turns illumination off.
Illuminated models include a 3v Lithium battery (type 2032). To install, remove the battery cover, insert the battery positive side up, and replace the cover.
NOTE: If the reticle dims or fails to light, the battery may need replacement.
7. Maintenance
Do not attempt to disassemble or clean the scope internally.
Begin by brushing away dust and dirt particles from the lenses. Use the provided lens cloth to clean from the center outwards. For minor smudges or fingerprints, start in the middle and clean in a circular motion towards the edges.
For more aggressive cleaning, apply a few drops of liquid lens cleaner to the cloth. Store the rifle scope in a moisture-free environment.
Important Information
Safety Warnings
ATTENTION!
- DO NOT look at the sun directly or through the sight, as it will cause permanent and irreparable damage to your eyes.
- DO NOT place this product under direct sunlight, as it can cause fire or damage to the product's components.
- Keep plastic packaging away from children. Children may put plastic into their mouths and suffer from suffocation.
- Children must be under adult supervision when using this product.
Usage Notice
- Store the product in a ventilated, dry, clean place, or in a dry box.
- If optical lenses have dust or dirt, use a professional cleaning kit. Do not wipe directly with a cloth or hard brush.
- Do not disassemble or repair the product yourself. Contact professional after-sales support for repairs.
- Do not use non-waterproof products in wet environments. Use waterproof products in wet environments and dry them after use.
- When viewing indoors, do not close the window and watch through it, as this reduces observation effect.
Care and Cleaning
The sight requires minimal routine maintenance, primarily keeping objective lenses and eyepieces clean. Dirty optics reduce light transmission, brightness, and image sharpness.
When not in use, store the sight in its provided case.
