5. Installation

Operating Environment

This converter must be installed and operated within the specified operating temperature and humidity limits (refer to the Specifications section). Do not place objects on top of the unit. Avoid positioning the converter near heating sources such as heaters or radiators, or in direct sunlight. Prevent water and moisture from entering the unit. Use a dehumidifier if necessary to reduce humidity.

Guidelines for Installation

Network Configuration Diagrams:

Standalone Configuration: Illustrates two network switches connected by a media converter. The UTP connection spans 100 meters, and the fiber optic connection spans 2 Kilometers (100Mbps fiber).

Back-to-Back Configuration: Shows two network switches and a PC interconnected via media converters. One UTP connection is 100 meters. One fiber optic connection spans 60 Kilometers (100Mbps fiber), and another UTP connection is 100 meters.

Connecting the Cable

Ensure UTP and fiber cables are properly connected to the converter. Use a Category 5 UTP straight-through cable for connecting the UTP normal port to a PC/adapter or the UTP uplink port to a hub port. For fiber connections, use 50/125 or 62.5/125 micron multi-mode fiber for multi-mode media converters, and 9/125 micron single-mode fiber for single-mode media converters.

Connecting the Power

Connect the output end of the power adapter to the power connector on the rear panel of the converter. Plug the power adapter into a power outlet. The green Power LED on the front panel should illuminate.
