Operating Instructions for Tube Expander
1. Tube Expansion
1.1 Deburring copper tube: It is recommended to deburr before expanding, especially for 3/8" copper tubes. [Illustration showing deburring a copper tube]
1.2 Annealed copper tube: (Note: Soft copper tube does not require annealing) [Illustration of annealed copper tube]
1.3 Insert the copper tube into the expander head, press the start button to operate. The expander will automatically stop after the expansion is complete. [Illustration of inserting tube and pressing start button]
(If the start button is accidentally pressed during operation, the expander will stop. Press the start button again to reset the tube expander's operation.)
(Note: If the start button is pressed but the expander does not respond, manually release the pressure by pressing the pressure release button and then press the start button again.)
2. Pressure Relief
2.1 Automatic pressure relief: The expansion pressure will be automatically relieved once the tube expansion process is finished.
2.2 Manual pressure relief: The manual pressure relief button should only be used when the expander is malfunctioning. To relieve pressure, press this button in the direction of the arrow. [Illustration showing manual pressure relief button]
3. Illumination
3.1 Press the light button to turn it on. [Illustration of the light button and the light turning on]
Charging
4.1 Press the tabs on both sides of the battery to remove it. [Illustration showing how to remove the battery]
4.2 Ensure the battery is connected correctly. [Illustration showing correct battery connection]
4.3 Reinstall the battery. [Illustration showing battery reinstallation]
Charging indicator: Blinks slowly. Full: Indicator stays on. Fault: Indicator blinks rapidly.
5. Oil Change
To ensure excellent expander performance, replace the hydraulic oil every 1 year or every 6000 expansions.
5.1 How to change the oil:
- Place the conical sleeve on the oil bottle cone, and then the O-ring.
- Unscrew the small oil change cap screw and remove it.
- Use a flat-head screwdriver to unscrew the refueling cap (clean any dust near the refueling port to prevent dust from entering).
- Turn the expander upside down, press the extraction pressure plate, drain the used oil from the expander, turn it upright, and place the expander horizontally. (Dispose of used oil properly).
- Press the extraction pressure plate while inserting the oil bottle into the refueling port.
- Loosen the exhaust pressure plate. After the extraction pressure plate returns to its original position, press it repeatedly until no more bubbles enter the oil bottle.
- Remove the oil bottle, replace the refueling cap screw, and screw the oil change cap back onto the expander.
[Sequence of images illustrating the oil change process]
Lubrication
Regularly add an appropriate amount of grease to the conical head hole of the expander to prevent it from getting stuck or failing to reset during the expansion process due to insufficient lubrication. [Illustration showing lubrication point]
PRECAUTIONS
- Place the expander back in its case after work to prevent water and dust from entering the expander.
- If the expander is used continuously for a long time, the temperature protection may activate, and the indicator will flash 5 times. Wait for the expander to cool down; it can be used again when the temperature drops.
- The expander will automatically shut off if there is no activity for 20 seconds.
- Use the specified oil bottle and hydraulic oil for oil changes/refills to avoid damaging the expander.
- This expander is designed for soft copper tubes. If hard copper tubes are used, they must be annealed before operation; otherwise, the tube will not expand or will break. Hard copper tubes that are not annealed will damage the tools and void the warranty.
- If an abnormal shutdown occurs during operation, follow these procedures:
- a. Press the manual pressure release button to release pressure;
- b. Remove and reconnect the battery;
- c. Restart the expander to see if the problem is resolved;
- d. If the problem is not resolved, contact NAVAC technical service.
