Giant MPH/Conduct Disc for Seek User Manual
1. Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing the Giant MPH/CONDUCT DISC FOR SEEK hydraulic disc brake system. The Giant MPH/CONDUCT DISC FOR SEEK hydraulic disc brake system is an affordable, entry-level hydraulic disc brake product. It offers stronger hydraulic braking power than existing mechanical disc brake systems through the traditional cable-actuated hydraulic mechanism.
Features
- This system uses a lever compatible with mechanical disc brakes to control hydraulic disc brakes, allowing the original mechanical disc brake setup to be converted to a semi-hydraulic disc brake without replacing the original brake lever.
- The master cylinder lever simply converts mechanical force into the powerful and smooth braking force of hydraulic disc brakes.
- The balanced lever curve allows for easy and precise adjustment of braking force.
- Maintains consistent braking force even under intense use on long and steep downhill descents.
- Achieves optimal performance in both wet and dry conditions.
- Designed for integration with Giant CONTACT AEROLIGHT stems for a cohesive appearance.
Precautions
For your safety, please follow the instructions below:
- This cable-actuated hydraulic disc brake system is a sealed unit that has undergone pressure testing. Unless otherwise indicated, do not loosen, remove, or adjust any screws or seals, as this may cause leakage or brake failure.
- Do not ignore any hydraulic fluid leaks. If you notice any signs of leakage from this hydraulic brake system, stop riding immediately and seek assistance from your nearest Giant/LIV authorized dealer.
- Before each ride, reconfirm that the hydraulic brake system is functioning correctly.
- The brake rotor and pads must not be contaminated with any type of oil or grease, as this will cause immediate brake failure. Unless otherwise indicated, do not apply any products to the hydraulic brake system.
- Brake rotors and pads are consumable parts and will wear down with normal use. Minor scratches on the rotor surface are normal. Check the condition of the rotor before each ride. If the rotor is significantly deformed or has deep wear marks (i.e., thickness is less than 1.5mm), replace it with a new rotor.
- The rotor surface temperature can rise rapidly during intense use of the hydraulic brakes. Do not touch to avoid burns. Do not spray any liquids to cool the hydraulic brake system, as this can damage the components. Always ensure that the hydraulic brake components have completely cooled down before making any adjustments.
- Contaminated or worn brake pads should be replaced immediately. The minimum thickness of the brake pads, including the backing plate, must not be less than 2.7mm.
- In rainy or muddy conditions, the performance of the hydraulic brakes will inevitably decrease, and noise will become more noticeable. However, once conditions return to dry, the brake performance will recover, and the noise will disappear.
- Never touch the rotor while it is rotating, do not insert fingers, or attempt any adjustments. This can cause serious injury.
- If you experience continuous noise accompanied by a decrease in braking force, it may be due to contamination of the pads and rotor. Seek assistance from your nearest Giant/LIV authorized dealer.

4. Important Precautions
The Giant MPH/CONDUCT DISC FOR SEEK hydraulic brake system is a cable-actuated hydraulic system. The hydraulic brake body has several sealing holes for production. These sealing holes are sealed with corresponding special screws at the factory. The diagram below highlights these sealing hole locations.
Under no circumstances should you attempt to loosen, tighten, or adjust these special screws.
If you discover any leaks, rust, or damaged parts, stop riding immediately and contact your local Giant/LIV authorized dealer for assistance.
Warning: Failure to follow the above precautions may result in sudden brake failure.
5. Operation
Warning: Insufficient braking force will directly affect riding feel and safety. Before each ride, ensure that both front and rear hydraulic brakes are functioning correctly.
Before each ride, please confirm that the hydraulic brakes are functioning correctly.
- Pull the brake lever several times to feel the actuation. The brake should respond quickly and feel firm.
- Mount the bicycle on the top tube. Firmly pull the brake lever and try to push the bike forward. The bike should remain stationary. If the bike moves forward, the braking force is insufficient.
Notes
- If you are unsure about the braking force, please consult your local Giant/LIV authorized dealer for assistance.
6. Maintenance
Regularly checking the hydraulic brake system after each ride is basic maintenance. You can use a damp cloth to wipe off any dirt and sweat from the hydraulic brake body, but avoid using any liquids to clean the hydraulic brake body, oil lines, calipers, brake pads, or rotors.
Over time and with use, the hydraulic fluid will degrade and lose its properties. The MPH/CONDUCT DISC FOR SEEK hydraulic brake system requires regular maintenance and fluid changes to ensure long-term durability.
It is recommended to change the hydraulic fluid once a year with regular riding.
Changing the hydraulic fluid requires a certain level of technical skill and experience. Please consult your local Giant/LIV authorized dealer for service.

7. Brake Pad Replacement
Notes
For long-distance rides or endurance events, it is best to have a spare set of new brake pads. This section explains the correct replacement procedure. Please assess your own technical ability before proceeding. Most importantly, perform the replacement in a safe environment. When performing on-site repairs/adjustments outdoors, always comply with local traffic regulations and do not obstruct traffic. Perform in a safe and clean area and be mindful of your surroundings.
Required Parts and Tools
- 1x Original Giant MPH/CONDUCT DISC FOR SEEK Brake Pad
- 1x Needle-nose pliers
- 1x Vernier caliper
- 1x Plastic tire lever
- Remove the wheel.
- Use needle-nose pliers to bend the tail of the safety pin on the caliper and pull it out (Figure A).
- Pull out the old brake pad (Figure B).
- If performing a routine check, use a caliper to measure the thickness of the old brake pad. The minimum allowable thickness is 2.7mm (including the backing plate) (Figure C).
- Use a plastic tire lever to push the caliper piston back into place (Figure D).
Caution
If the piston is very stiff, do not force it. After removing the brake pads, do not attempt to pull the brake lever. If you encounter difficulties, please consult your local Giant/LIV authorized dealer for assistance.
Diagrams A through H illustrating the brake pad replacement process.
- Confirm the correct orientation of the left and right brake pads, place the spring in between, and install the entire assembly into the caliper from the top (Figures E, F).
- Insert the new safety pin and bend the tail 90° with needle-nose pliers (Figure G).
- Reinstall the wheel, ensuring the axle is aligned with the frame/fork openings. Tighten the thru-axle/quick release to the specified torque (Figure H).
Notes
After installing new brake pads, pulling the brake lever may feel softer than before. This is due to the design of the disc brake caliper. This phenomenon will disappear after a few lever actuations. Normally, no adjustment to the lever reach is required after replacing the brake pads. If this phenomenon persists, please consult your local Giant/LIV authorized dealer for assistance.
After installing new brake pads or a new rotor, a break-in period is required for optimal performance. Perform the break-in operation in a safe environment.
To properly break in the disc brakes, first ride the bike at a controlled speed in a safe environment. Apply braking force that is slightly stronger than usual but not enough to cause the front wheel to lock up or skid. Repeat this several times, and the braking force should significantly improve, indicating that the break-in is complete.
