Installation Instruction for Carplay Interface

VW MIB1 / MIB2 System

The interface is connected via a connection cable with contrast plugs. It is estimated that the work to connect the interface takes about 15-30 minutes. MoTrade ensures the right settings when purchasing the interface. Programming is not necessary.

Step 1. Check the AUX or AMI port for sound

The sound of the interface is routed through the AUX or AMI port. Check this port by connecting a sound source to it. If no sound comes out, the AUX or AMI port must be activated. An AMI port may not become active until an AMI cable is plugged into it.

Step 2. Turn off the ignition

By turning off the ignition, there is no power left on the multimedia unit, and the cables can be safely disconnected and connected.

Step 3. Untie the glove compartment cover

With the MK7, the inner part of the glove compartment is hooked. On the top left and right, push the hook out of the sponge, and the inner part falls down in its entirety. This provides enough work and installation space.

If this simple method is not possible, search online for "remove glovebox VW". There are multiple videos available on the internet demonstrating how to remove the glove box. In most cases, it involves unscrewing the glove compartment at the top and bottom. Remove the cover under the air conditioning unit to access an additional screw. This screw prevents the removal of the glove compartment. Removing the cover may be sufficient. If not, you may need to release some extra panels around the area.

Step 4. Disconnect the multimedia unit

Using the unlock keys, pull the multimedia unit forward. Insert the keys with the straight side on the outside into the slots and not too deep. If the keys are inserted too deep, the unit will not come out.

Disconnect the large black plug block from the multimedia unit by pressing the tab of the plug, pushing the lever slightly downwards, and then pulling it over. The plug block will detach on its own.

Press the grey or pink video connector into the pallet at the bottom. Pry very carefully with a small flat object between the seam if the plug is very tight. Leave the rest of the plugs connected. If necessary, cut some tape between the cables to allow enough freedom of movement to pull the thick cable and the video cable out of the housing.

Step 5. Connect the connection cable of the interface

Pull the multimedia unit plug block out of the box and connect it to the contrast plug of the interface connection cable.

Step 6. Connect the video cable of the interface

Pull the video cable from the multimedia unit out of the box and connect it to the contrast plug of the interface's video cable.

Plug A has a double cable; it must be on the interface. Tighten plug B of the video cable on the counter-plug of the video cable from the multimedia unit.

Step 7. Reconnect the multimedia unit

Plug the connected plug block and plug C of the video cable back into the compartment of the multimedia unit. Ensure all plugs are securely attached and push the multimedia unit back into the housing until it clicks into place. If there is resistance, do not force it; instead, create space by pulling the cables back from the outside. The connected square plug block should be on the outside of the compartment.

Step 8. Insert the antenna

Stick the Wi-Fi antenna in a free space against plastic (not on metal or the interface itself). In the case of two screw antennas, screw them onto the unit.

Step 9. Position the USB cable

Determine the desired position for the USB plug. Route the USB extension cable to that position, for example, along or behind the plastic cover plate of the air filter at the back of the glove compartment.

Step 10. Connect all cables

Connect all cables to the interface (antenna, power supply, USB, video plug A).

Connection Diagram Description: The diagram shows the OEM Head Unit connecting to the interface via a Quadlock Main Power Cable and a provided 4-pin LVDS cable. The interface has ports for LVDS, POWER/CAN, USB/CVBS, and ANT (Wi-Fi & BT antenna). It also connects to the OEM Screen. The interface provides connections for a USB female connector, Rear camera in, Front camera/DVR video in, Camera Power (12V supply), GND, and Reverse Detect. The diagram indicates that the Reverse Detect should connect to the reverse light if the CAMERA_POWER cable does not output 12V.

Step 11. Test the system

Test the system by checking at least the following points:

Tip: Press the "BACK, MEDIA or NAV" button for 10 seconds for a reboot of the interface.

For sound, the radio must first be set to AUX or AMI. If no sound comes out, this port still needs to be activated.

Check the position of the dip switches if something is not working correctly. After changing a dip switch, the power must be removed from the unit (unplug and replug the power connector). Refer to the label on the backside of the unit for settings.

Step 12. Mount the interface

If everything is functioning properly, fit/paste the interface on top or behind the glove compartment. Ensure that the ventilation openings remain unobstructed.

Step 13. Rebuild the system

Screw/click the glove compartment back into position.

Note: Push the cables away into the available space and ensure they cannot get trapped or obstruct a screw hole!

Step 14. Connect the interface to your phone

Disconnect the Bluetooth connection to the VW. Connect to the Bluetooth of the Carplay interface (0000) and turn on Wi-Fi and Carplay on your phone. The interface establishes a Wi-Fi connection via the Bluetooth connection. The system is now basically ready. Set the VW's sound source to AUX/AMI.

Step 15. Enjoy it!
