Installation Instruction for Carplay Android Auto Interface
BMW 1 Series (F40) 2019
The interface connects via a connection plug on the radio and a video cable on the display. Installation is estimated to take 30-60 minutes. No programming is required.
Step 1. Remove the front panel underneath the display (unclip)
Use a trim tool to unclip the front panel located beneath the display screen.
Step 2. Remove the display (screws)
Remove the two screws securing the display screen. Carefully pull the screen out. Disconnect the original video plug. Connect the video cable from the new interface to the display. Route the original video plug downwards.
Step 3. Remove the panel with the air vents (screws)
Unscrew the panel containing the ventilation grilles using four screws. Disconnect any attached plugs.
Step 4. Remove the panel under the control unit from the radio (unclip)
Unclip the panel located under the radio's control unit. This panel is secured with five clips. Pull the plug out of this panel.
Step 5. Remove the head unit (screws)
Remove the two screws securing the head unit (radio). Pull the head unit out downwards.
Step 6. Connect the interface (plugs)
Unplug the large black power strip from the back of the radio. If equipped, remove the integrated plug containing two optical cables (typically green or orange). To remove this plug, use a pointed object to pull out the latch, allowing the plug to be extracted. Transfer this plug to the interface's power strip (press it in). Then, plug the interface's power strip into the radio. Connect the other power strip to its socket. Connect the antenna, the main connection plug, the video plug, and any USB extension cable to the interface. Ensure the antenna is not attached to metal.
Step 7. Test the system
Select BLUETOOTH as the audio source in the original car system. Switch to the interface by pressing the back or return button. Connect your phone to the interface's Bluetooth signal and enable Wi-Fi. The Bluetooth connection will establish a Wi-Fi network and then disconnect itself.
Step 8. Assemble the Interface
Mount the interface in the available space behind the radio or in/under the glove box.
Step 9. Seal the system
Reconnect all parts in the reverse order of removal. The system utilizes the car's existing microphone.
Step 10. Have fun!
Enjoy your new Carplay and Android Auto functionality.
