Welcome to your VTech VM819 and VM819-2 Video Baby Monitor. This guide will help you set up and use your new baby monitor.

Important Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury:
- Read all warnings and instructions.
- Adult setup is required.
- Keep cords out of reach of children (at least 3 ft / 0.9m away).
- Do not use near water.
- Use only provided adapters and batteries.
- Do not disassemble the product.
- Ensure proper ventilation.
- Periodically check all components for damage.
- Supervise children to ensure they do not play with the product.
Warning: Strangulation Hazard - Keep cords out of reach of children.
Getting Started
1. Connect the Baby Monitor
Plug the power adapters into the baby unit and parent unit, and then into wall outlets.
2. Power On/Off the Baby Monitor
- Baby Unit: Slide the ON/OFF switch to power on or off.
- Parent Unit: Press and hold the POWER button to power on or off.
3. Positioning the Baby Monitor
Place the baby unit in a convenient location, such as on a shelf or table. Adjust the camera angle for the best view of your baby. For optimal viewing, ensure the baby unit is at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from the parent unit.
4. Status Check
Once both units are powered on, the parent unit should display an image from the baby unit, and the LINK LED light should turn on.
Basic Operation - Parent Unit
Adjusting Volume
Press VOL+ / VOL- to adjust the parent unit speaker volume.
Talk to Your Baby
Press and hold the TALK button and speak into the parent unit. Release TALK when done speaking.
Turning Off the Screen
Press POWER/LCD OFF to turn off the screen. Sound will still be heard. Press any key to turn the screen back on.
Using the Menu
Press MENU to access settings and features:
- Zoom: Press or to zoom in/out.
- Settings: Adjust screen brightness, set temperature alerts, and more.
- Sound Detection (VOX): Adjust sensitivity to hear sounds from the baby unit.
- Lullaby: Play or stop lullabies from the baby unit.
Night Vision
The baby unit has infrared LEDs that automatically turn on in low light conditions, allowing you to see your baby clearly in the dark. Images will appear in black and white.
Sound Sensitivity and Sound Activation
VOX (Voice Activated Alert): This feature allows the parent unit to alert you only when sounds exceeding a certain level are detected by the baby unit. You can adjust the sensitivity level.
Sound-activated screen: When enabled, the parent unit screen turns off when no sound is detected and turns on automatically when sound is detected.
For VM819-2 Only
Patrol Mode
Monitor your baby in PATROL mode, where the screen cycles through videos from all linked baby unit cameras.
Mounting the Baby Unit on Dry Wall (Optional)
Follow these steps to mount the baby unit on a wall:
- Mark two parallel holes on the wall, ensuring they match the spacing of the baby unit's wall mount holes.
- Drill the holes (use a 7/23 inch drill bit). If drilling into a stud, proceed to step 4. If not, insert wall anchors.
- Insert screws into the holes, leaving about 1/4 inch exposed.
- Align the baby unit's wall mount holes with the screws and slide the unit down to lock it in place.
Note: Ensure you use appropriate screws and anchors for your wall type.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Baby monitor not responding: Disconnect and reconnect power to both units.
- Power light not on: Ensure units are properly connected to power.
- Screen in black and white: This is normal when night vision is active in a dark room.
- High-pitched noise: Ensure the parent and baby units are not too close, or lower the parent unit volume.
- Parent unit beeps: Check if baby units are out of range, the parent unit battery is low, or the room temperature is too high/low.
- Parent unit reacts too quickly to sounds: Adjust the VOX sensitivity to a lower level.
- Cannot hear baby: Increase parent unit speaker volume or set VOX sensitivity to a higher level.
- Connection issues/sound interruptions: Ensure units are within range and away from other electronic interference.

This equipment complies with FCC Part 15 and Industry Canada rules. Operation is subject to conditions that prevent harmful interference. Maintain a minimum distance of 8 inches (20 cm) between the baby unit and persons' bodies.
