Safety Instructions

For your safety, do not start the Logosol WDU wood drying unit without reading and understanding this manual. Do not allow untrained persons to use the unit.

If used incorrectly, the WDU can cause injury and material damage.

Key to Symbols

❗ WARNING: Pay particular attention where this symbol appears.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Instructions followed by this symbol must be observed.

When Using the Equipment

The drying unit is intended only for drying clean wood in a designated chamber. The WDU must be placed in a dry space, and the external parts must be protected from the elements. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby during operation.

Location of the Wood Drying Kiln

The wood drying kiln (unit and chamber) should be located outdoors with weather shelter. Place the kiln under a roof covering the drying chamber. Ensure the unit is not exposed to rain, snow, or splashing water.

Risks and Precautions

  • Risk of water damage: Condensed water may leak. Place the drying chamber on a water-resistant surface and in a location that can withstand moist air.
  • During use:
    • Never set the thermostat above 50°C.
    • Ensure the start/stop button is not blocked.
    • Never step on the power cable; protect it from damage.
    • Do not modify or rebuild the WDU.
    • Replace damaged or illegible warning labels.
  • "Cut the power" means disconnecting the power cable from the mains and ensuring no unqualified person can reconnect it. Wait for the unit to cool completely.
    • Cut power before touching the inside of the drying chamber.
    • Cut power before opening inspection hatches.
    • Cut power before cleaning or maintenance.
    • Cut power before moving the unit.
  • Risk of fire: Use a residual current circuit breaker for electrical and fire safety. Ensure air circulation within the chamber and keep wood at least 0.3 m from the WDU. Minimize fire damage risk by consulting local fire authorities for placement advice.
  • Risk of burn injury: The drying unit has hot heating elements. It must not be started until correctly installed in a closed drying chamber. Unit surfaces become hot during operation; never touch internal parts unless power is cut and the unit is cool.

Before Connecting the Equipment to the Mains

Check that:

  • No loose objects are left inside the drying unit.
  • All inspection hatches are correctly fitted.
  • The power cable is in good condition.
  • The unit's labelling matches your electrical connection.

Machine Description

The Logosol WDU is a drying unit designed for installation through a drying chamber wall. It dries wood clean of sawdust and dirt by generating heat and circulating air. A centrifugal fan blows air through an electrical heater, mixing with cold outside air. The fan runs continuously when the WDU is on. The heater is controlled by a thermostat, raising the air temperature by approximately 25°C. An overheating protection system turns off the WDU if the temperature becomes too high.

Specifications: 50Hz 10A 220V 2kW6 (SKU 6200-000-0000), 60Hz 20A 110V 2kW (SKU 6200-000-0001)

Weight: 10 kg

Drying Chamber Requirements

The Logosol WDU must be installed in an insulated drying chamber with a volume of at least 1 m³ and a maximum of 4 m³. Minimum dimensions: Length: 2 m, Width: 0.5 m, Height: 1 m. Install the WDU through the short side of the chamber.

  • Wood to be dried must be at least 0.3 m from the WDU.
  • Wood thickness should be at least 10 mm and securely stacked.
  • The drying chamber material must withstand at least 80°C.
  • The air inlet (A6) can be used to increase chamber circulation.
  • The chamber must have a thermometer readable from the outside with an internal sensor.
  • The chamber needs a vent for moist air.
  • Place the chamber to protect the WDU from the elements.
  • An empty chamber can tip in wind; maintain half maximum filling volume with wood.
  • Ensure stacked wood is clean of sawdust.

Thermometer Use

Use an oven thermometer (or similar) rated for over 100°C. Verify its accuracy by immersing the sensor in boiling water (should read approx. 100°C). Place the sensor on the side opposite the WDU, 0.5 m above the chamber floor.

Installation

The WDU must be installed at least 10 cm from the floor, ceiling, or walls of the chamber.

Install the Logosol WDU through an opening of 250 mm width and 505 mm height, mounted level. The air outlet must point downwards.

The air outlet should not blow directly at the wood but under it to circulate air.

Ensure the external cooling fan of the fan motor has clearance and electrical controls are accessible.

Checking the Functioning of the Fan

When correctly installed in a closed chamber, check that the fan motor starts when the WDU is switched on. If not, cut power.

Checking the Functioning of the Thermostat

Cut power. Place the WDU in a room heated to at least 20°C and let it reach that temperature. Turn the thermostat knob (B11) below 20°C, then back above the ambient temperature. A distinct click should be heard as the knob passes the ambient temperature. If no click is heard, the WDU must not be started.

Air Conductor Plate Bending

The sides of the WDU air conductor plate must be bent at 90-degree angles. The illustration shows the plate being installed on the WDU.

[Illustration: Bending a plate to 90 degrees for installation on WDU]

Adjusting the Thermostat

The WDU's air circulation dries wood quickly and energy-efficiently at low temperatures. Set the thermostat to a maximum of 50°C; lower settings save energy.

Monitor the chamber's internal temperature. It's normal for the thermometer to show a lower temperature than the thermostat's set value. If it shows a higher temperature, turn off the WDU and check its function.

Air flow can be adjusted by the damper on the back of the unit. The outlet vent should be slightly more open than the inlet vent. Drying speed is controlled by vent opening.

Maintenance

Certain wood types can cause corrosion. Wipe the exterior clean with a damp cloth after each drying cycle. Check the power cable for integrity and connection before each start. Corrosive wood can shorten the WDU's service life.

If the machine's glass fuse blows immediately upon starting, the WDU may be damaged. Cut power immediately and contact Logosol for service or replacement.

Troubleshooting

The WDU does not start:

  • A fuse has blown on your premises.
  • The WDU's glass fuses have blown.
  • The power cable is not correctly connected.

The WDU does not reach the desired temperature:

  • The overheat protection has been activated.
  • Ambient conditions (cold temperature, strong wind, rain) may prevent reaching the set temperature.
  • The drying chamber vents are too open.
