Separett Weekend can be moved around, but if used permanently in one location, it's recommended to mount it to the floor or to the wall. For maximum stability, both options can be combined.
Floor
To attach the toilet to the floor, use the included screws or other fitting screws. There are three holes in the bottom of the toilet. These holes are covered with a cap that can be removed with for example a screwdriver or a drill bit.
Wall
There are two holes in the back wall of the toilet. Use these holes for fixing the toilet in the wall.

Diagram showing placement of the basket in the urine drain.
Using the toilet
We recommend using Separett Absorb Pads and Separett Urine Drain Cleaner Tablets to prevent odors. Additionally, use of compost medium such as peat, sawdust, or coconut coir may help to reduce smell.
- Always sit down. Sit a little further back than usual to make sure that urine and solid waste are separated.
- Toilet paper can be thrown in the same bin as the solid waste.
- Pour a cup of water in the urine bowl after your visit. Not mandatory.
IMPORTANT! Never throw burning or smoking objects in the toilet.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Weekend Prime should be cleaned with an environmentally friendly non-abrasive cleaner. The toilet is made of strong high-gloss polypropylene material that risks being scratched if any abrasive cleaner or a rough cloth is used. Use regular all-purpose cleaner and a soft cloth for optimal cleaning.
To prevent odors, the urine container should be cleaned at least after every third emptying or if there is a pause in the use of the toilet. Fill about ¼ of the urine container with water, close the caps and shake hard to clean the insides of the container. Pour away the water.
Tip! Use Separett Bio Drain Cleaner tablets to prevent deposits in the urine drain.
User instructions can be downloaded at www.separett.com or at separett.shop for the U.S. market.
Waste handling
IMPORTANT!
Always consult your local environmental office to find out what rules apply for waste management in your municipality. Always follow local regulations.
Emptying the urine container
For full-time use in a household of two people, the urine container should be emptied approximately every other day. Since this toilet has no electronics, there is no indication for emptying of the liquid container. Open the top of the toilet to empty the tank. Make sure that the top is locked in its opened position before letting go of it. Then follow the steps below:
- Make sure that the small yellow cap is screwed on tight and then screw the large yellow cap onto the urine container.
- Keep the caps on and lift the container out of the toilet. To facilitate lifting, use the yellow handles on the container when lifting it.
- Carry the container to the place where it is to be emptied.
- Unscrew the small cap and keep the large one screwed on.
- Empty the container by holding it firmly in the handle with one hand while holding the bottom of the container with the other. Now angle the container downwards and empty the contents from the small outlet.
- When the container is empty, screw the small cap back on and make sure it is secured.
- Place the container in the toilet again and make sure that it is correctly positioned.
- Unscrew the large cap of the tank and place it in its designated storage socket on the container.
- To close the top of the toilet, pull the top towards you until the latch releases. Then carefully close the top and make sure it closes correctly.

Emptying the solid waste container
IMPORTANT! Always check local laws and regulations when disposing of human waste.
The solid waste is collected in the waste container which is fitted with a waste bag. For full-time use in a household of two people, the solid waste should be emptied approximately after 2 weeks of use. Open the upper part of the toilet to empty the solid waste. Make sure that the top is locked in its opened position before releasing it. Then follow the steps below:
- Lift the container by its yellow handle and pull it up out of the toilet.
- Carry the container to where the waste will be handled.
Option 1
To be composted directly in an approved compost.
Option 2
To be incinerated directly in an approved incinerator.
Option 3
Dispose of the waste in a suitable waste bin. In many places solid waste from a urine diverting toilets may be disposed of like diapers up to a certain volume / weight per person per week. Always check local laws and regulations when disposing of human waste.
Option 4
Place it in a container and have it standing in "hibernation" for at least 12 months by following the steps below:
- Place the container in an appropriate location outdoors in a suitable container with a solid bottom.
- Fill the container with a layer of soil (approx. 2 cm / 1 inch), make sure that the container is properly ventilated so that air circulates in the container.
- Let sit for 12 months. The bacteria in the soil break down the harmful organisms in the feces, rendering the waste harmless.
- After the storage period, the contents can be composted in an ordinary compost, garden compost or buried along with the compostable bag.
Diagrams illustrating the four options for disposing of solid waste.
Conversion and external ventilation
Conversion to urine extraction model
The Separett Weekend Prime is only available in its standard configuration with an internal urine container, making it a fully self-contained solution for off-grid and weekend use. However, if you prefer to extract urine externally, the toilet can be converted into a urine extraction model using original Separett parts. For conversion, you will need the Separett Urine Extraction Kit (Product Number 1343). Additionally, Separett offers a range of compatible parts for a complete urine extraction installation, including:
- Urine hose (11131)
- Elbow (12421)
- Collar (12181)
- Coupling (12416)
- Wall clips (12408)
- Drainage kit with Trap (1032)
- U.S. Tube Adapter (12633, needed when using non-Separett urine hose in the U.S.)
For best performance and to prevent leaks, always remember to seal all connections with silicone!
Use of an external ventilation system
The Separett Weekend Prime does not have an internal fan but can be connected to a ventilation duct with an external fan for improved odor control. If you choose to add ventilation, follow these steps for proper installation:
- Purchase a Gasket (Art. No. 13011) to ensure a secure fit.
- Remove the plug from the back left corner of the toilet.
- Connect the toilet to a suitable ventilation system using either:
- Separett Flexible Ventilation Hose (1335)
- Separett Solid Ventilation Pipe (1344)
- Use compatible components for a complete ventilation setup:
- Elbow (1332)
- Coupling (1331)
- Rain and Wind Cap (1336)
- Pipe Cap with Insect Net (1334)
- Collar (1340)
- U.S. Pipe Adapter (1345, needed when using non-Separett pipes in the U.S.)
- Seal all sleeves, elbows, and connectors with silicone to prevent odors from escaping into the room.
Troubleshooting
If it smells
Only toilets with a fan and a ventilation duct can guarantee odorless use. To reduce smell we recommend using Separett Absorb Pads together with a composting medium such as peat, sawdust, or coconut coir. Use of Separett Bio Drain Cleaner tablets in the urine bowl is advised. Remember to rinse the liquids container after every 3 emptying to prevent odors.
Problems with insects in the toilet
Check that all openings to the toilet are plugged. Notice, that use of additional natural compost medium may increase the risk of insects in the toilet.
Urine leaks into the toilet
Ensure that the urine container is placed correctly in the toilet. The container should sit evenly on the bottom of the toilet.
Notice that since there is no indication for emptying of the liquid container it's recommended to empty the container more often.
