Instrument Operation
Connect a compatible Type K thermocouple probe via the mini socket on the instrument. Switch the instrument on using the ON/OFF button. Apply the probe tip to the substance, medium, or surface to be measured. Allow a few seconds for the reading to stabilize.
Sensors
The CaterTemp Metal features a fixed Type K probe. The Therma K Metal requires a Type K thermocouple probe made to BS EN 60584:1996 with a suitable miniature thermocouple plug. Visit www.thermoworks.com for a selection of probes for liquids, air, solids, and surface temperatures, including custom options.
Hold Function
Press the 'HOLD' button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press 'HOLD' again to resume normal operation.
Temperature Scale (°F / °C)
To switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius, press and hold the 'ON/OFF' button for 5 seconds during startup.
Resolution
The instrument automatically adjusts the measurement resolution from 0.1° to 1° when the reading exceeds 999.9°.
Auto-Off Feature
The instrument automatically powers off after 10 minutes of inactivity. To disable this feature, press and hold the 'HOLD' button while turning the instrument on. This setting is reset when the instrument is powered off.
Error Indicators
- Under-Range: 'LO' is displayed when measuring below the instrument's specified range.
- Over-Range: 'HI' is displayed when measuring above the instrument's specified range.
- Faulty Probe/No Probe: 'Err' is displayed if no probe is connected or if the probe is faulty.
Battery Replacement
A 'Lo Bat' symbol indicates that the batteries need replacement. The instrument will continue to function but may display 'FLAt bAt' and shut down. To replace the batteries, remove the cover, release the battery pack, and insert 3x AAA Alkaline batteries. Ensure seals are correctly positioned and the cover is securely tightened to maintain integrity.
EMC/RFI Considerations
Performance may be affected by strong radio frequency electromagnetic fields (approx. 3 volts per meter), but the instrument's performance will not be permanently altered.
