Synapse DIM10-087-06-FW Controller
Installation Guide and Regulatory Information
Overview and Warnings
The Synapse DIM10-087-06-FW Controller is designed for dimming control of LED drivers. It operates on 5 to 24V DC and uses 2.4 GHz RF for communication.
General Warnings and Cautions
- WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK, OR DEATH: TURN OFF POWER AT CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSE AND TEST THAT POWER IS OFF BEFORE INSTALLING! ⚡??
- PROPER GROUNDING REQUIRED TO AVOID STATIC DISCHARGE WHICH CAN DAMAGE CONTROLLERS DURING INSTALLATION.
- If you are unsure about any part of these instructions, consult an electrician; all work should be performed by qualified personnel.
- Disconnect power at circuit breaker or fuse when servicing, installing or removing fixture or changing lamps.
- CAUTION: DIM10-087-06-FW controllers must be installed in accordance with national, state, and local electrical codes and requirements.

Design Considerations
Recommendations for successful dimming:
- The dimming control wires are referenced as Dim+ and Dim-. The dimming signals have a Maximum voltage of 10V DC.
- Do not ground the DIM- wire to chassis ground; this is a return signal and is critical for proper dimming.
- Route dimming wires away from AC lines if possible.
- Maximum of 4 LED Drivers per controller; consult Synapse Support if a greater ratio is needed.
- Do not mount to a heatsink or to a LED driver.
- When installing the DIM10-087-06-FW into an enclosure, consider the internal antenna position and interference for optimum wireless signal strength. Prior to permanently mounting, ensure the antenna is free of any metal objects within 12 inches of the antenna.
Installation Instructions
Needed Material
- Mounting Hardware: (1) #4 and M3 screws and standoff recommended
Mounting
- Place the controller in the desired location and secure it using a #4 sized screw and standoff through the mounting hole located in the center of the board.
Wiring the DIM10-087-06-FW Controller
Note: Unless specified, connections to a standard Dim to Off LED driver and a DALI 2 LED driver are the same for the DIM- and DALI- wires.
- Connect the POWER (BROWN) wire of the DIM10-087-06-FW to the 5-24V DC Aux output from the LED driver.
- Connect the DIM- and DALI- (GRAY/WHITE STRIPE) wires of the DIM10-087-06-FW to the COMMON/DALI- or COMMON/DIM- terminal on the LED driver, depending on your driver type.
Connecting Sensors
Steps 4-7 are for adding sensors. Skip this section if not connecting sensors.
Two sensor inputs are available for low powered (24V DC) type sensors.
- The SENSOR A (YELLOW) wire is used to connect sensor A.
- The SENSOR B (ORANGE) wire is used to connect sensor B.
- Connect the sensor power wire to the AUX out on the LED driver (the LED driver powers the sensor).
- Connect the sensor Common to the COMMON/DALI- or COMMON/DIM- terminal on the LED driver.
- Connect the SENSOR A (YELLOW) wire or the SENSOR B (ORANGE) wire of the DIM10-087-06-FW controller to the sensor CTRL/Control wire.
- If using more than one sensor, duplicate the installation as described above. (See Figures 1 AND 2 for reference).
Connecting the Dimming Circuit
Steps 8-10 are for connecting to a Standard Dim to Off LED driver. Skip to steps 11-13 for DALI 2 LED drivers.
- Connect the DIM+ (PURPLE) wire from the DIM10-087-06-FW to the DIM+ wire on the LED driver.
- Connect the DIM- (GRAY/WHITE STRIPE) wire from the DIM10-087-06-FW to the COMMON/DIM- wire on the LED driver.
- Cap the unused DALI+ (PURPLE/WHITE STRIPE) wire. (See Figure 1 for reference).
Connecting to a DALI 2 LED Driver
Steps 11-13 are for connecting to a DALI 2 LED driver.
- Connect the DALI+ (PURPLE/WHITE STRIPE) wire from the DIM10-087-06-FW to the LED driver DALI+.
- Cap the unused DIM+ (PURPLE) wire. (See Figure 2 for reference).
Powering Up the Fixture and Controller
After connecting the Controller to the LED Driver and any sensors, ensure all unused wires are capped. Switch power on to the fixture. The light should turn on.
Status LED
When the controller is powered, the status LED indicates the current status:
- Red: No Network Found (Communication Lost) ❌
- Blinking Green: Network Found, Controller Not Configured (Device not yet added to SimplySNAP) ⚠️
- Green: Network Found, Controller Configured (Normal Operation) ✔️
Refer to the SimplySNAP User's Manual for information on provisioning the DIM10-087-06-FW.
Diagram Descriptions
Figure 1 - DIM to OFF Wiring Diagram Description
This diagram illustrates wiring for a standard Dim to Off LED driver. It shows the DIM10-087-06-FW controller connected to an LED driver. The controller's BROWN wire connects to the LED driver's AUX DC VOLTAGE. The controller's GRAY/WHITE STRIPE wire connects to the LED driver's COMMON/DIM-. The controller's PURPLE wire connects to the LED driver's DIM+. Sensor connections are also shown: YELLOW wire to SENSOR A (VDC), GRAY/WHITE STRIPE wire to SENSOR A (COM), ORANGE wire to SENSOR B (VDC), and another GRAY/WHITE STRIPE wire to SENSOR B (COM). Notes indicate that the GRAY/WHITE STRIPE wires connect to COMMON/DALI-, the PURPLE wire is for analog dimming and unused with DALI-2, and the ORANGE/YELLOW wires are for sensors.
